Gone
Ninety-One
"Well, I guess that means I'll be calling Niall. I'll let you get back to...whatever it is you're doing,"
The tone of his voice suggested that he was enjoying this, finding my misfortune funny. It wouldn't be unlike him at all really.
"You're such a dick! You know that?" I half-yelled but quickly lowered my voice again.
I had to take a deep breath to keep from exploding with anger.
"So you tell me," he replied.
I changed tactics, desperately grasping at straws.
"Don't do this," I pleaded, "you're better than this,"
He wasn't. This was lower than low but I had this theory that if you're nice to someone and give them false hope, you may just get what you want. I'd learnt it from him actually when he'd used it on me one day. It had worked too.
"Give me one good reason not to do this," he snarled.
I could think of plenty.
"You're dating Amber and I'm in a relationship with Niall!"
I'd be cheating on my boyfriend for a second time, with the same person, to cover up for the first time. I hoped it sounded as messed up to him as it did to me. If not, he really did have no conscience at all.
Speaking of Amber, I hadn't heard from her much lately. Although it'd been nice, I was beginning to get a little bit suspicious. Did she know about all this? Did she know that her 'boyfriend', such as he was, was trying to get with me? I'd be a little more than upset if I was her. I had a hunch that she had something to do with this. I crossed my fingers and my toes, desperately hoping I was wrong but there was a good reason why I always trusted my gut.
"I wonder what Amber would think of your 'deal'. You are screwing her after all," it was more of an indirect question but he knew what I was implying.
I could almost feel the anger surging through the phone.
"It's...it's not like that,"
I could tell he was struggling to stay calm.
"Give me the phone," a female voice hissed in the background.
I fucking knew it. I mean, who else would it be besides her?
"Who's that?" I demanded, playing dumb.
I jumped out of my skin as someone knocked on the door.
"Babe? You still in there?"
Of course it just had to be Niall. Damn it, damn it, damn it! What the hell was I supposed to do or say now? He was right outside the door for goodness sake. I should've gone outside. At least then I could just walk away from him if need be. I had just figured that it was better to go in the room with a lock. He could've easily been standing there the whole time, listening in to my conversation. Although if that were the case, he'd be a lot less calm and more than likely banging down the door by this stage.
