Midnight Calling

Bedroom Lies Part 2

CHARLIE'S POV

The sickly sweet sounds of arguments happening away from the room I found myself awoken in was enough to have that migraine temporarily return. I'd lost a day of possible thread finding and clue chasing by, well.. I'm assuming knocking myself out. I was sure what I grabbed off the dining table this morning were just my mothers advil pills. Nothing to serious. The bedroom door swung ajar just enough for light to filter through and a demure looking figure graced and draped in hues of black looked over at me like an angel in disguise. Pulse racing and my mind trying to figure out where the hell I was; the figure spoke, only tightening my stress and allegations.

"Louis will pop by in a minute."

It was Bella. Not that her cold hard, plastic voice didn't give her away completely. Listening to her sigh and gently tap her fingertips against the door making a rhythmic seance of musical dance, I sat up slowly and rubbed my temples and pushed my cell deep into my pockets, knowing that at someone point, I might need it for saving. Note to self - charge it when you're able to. Unsure of whether or not I should have tried to continue conversation - Bella felt the need without me even attempting to bother.

"You know you're lucky he was there when you fell otherwise, you might be dead."

I swallowed hard enough at her words that it was possible to hear the gulp as it trickled down my throat. Our intimacy was quickly ruined by the company of Louis, although well, I wasn't really complaining. The two shared a simple yet over eager glance at one another before swapping places and Bella, left the room quietly.

"Did you want the light on?", Louis asked breathy. I could tell by his words and pauses that something must have happened. Rather something than nothing.
"No..", I responded, crawling to the edge of the bed and hanging my feet over the side, "I just want company."

Suggestive enough and listened to; he joined me, close to my side but left enough breathing space for personal welfare. I could hear his heart beating through the silence of the bedroom. This would have all been romantic if, you know - damn, my mind shouldn't be going there. Feeling like I was caught in a bad remake of the 'I know what you did last summer' trilogy, I was surprised to feel Louis' arm wrap around my waist and pull me in tight.

"Harry called before.."
"Was that what al the yelling was about downstairs?", I asked softly, not expecting an answer.
"No. That um..", he mumbled with a loss for words.
"So Harry called", I set Louis back up on track.
"He, wanted to talk to you."
"Okay."
"I can get him to come over if you'd like?", Louis stated, "It'd be no trouble."
"No, we um.. we'll meet him somewhere else. So it's mutual territory."

Jumping off the bed and taking my hands to pull me up to my feet along side him, Louis gave me a bitter sweet smile which I'm assuming matched the thoughts inside his head and suggested we head out to see Harry before it got to late. Maybe he'd realized too that I'd lost a day. Now.., now there was only 4 left and I still had an essay to get in. Not that it really mattered.

LOUIS' POV

Arriving at the cabin again; Harry quickly rushed up to us and swore that we had to move quickly, move fast, move quietly so that no one saw us, noticed us, spotted us. I was the first to think that there was just something a little strange about this but of course, Charlie didn't seem to care or mind and with our fingers intertwined - she dragged me along a mother does a child in a shopping mall.

"You guys won't believe this", Harry began, clicking his fingers in the air and waving his hands about, "The other night I found all this stuff in the back shed and then Liam just.. turned up out of nowhere."

Yes, we still did need to talk to Liam about his whereabouts. Watching the boy make a swift kick to the doors just as he had the night before and turn the lights on by the doorframe, we wandered into a 4 wall nothingness. The space being obviously cleared out.

"You dragged us back here.. to see nothing?", Charlie asked, her shoulders dropping in disappointment at the statement.
"I swear it wasn't like this the other night..", Harry fought with a quick choice of words.
"The grounds been moved", I mustered up quietly; I wasn't going to help Harry get out of this if it really was just a mind game but I wasn't going to let Charlie give up hope either.

Letting go of my hand and dropping to her knees on the ground; she young girl fiddled with some turned soil, picking up what looked like a pair of earrings and rubbed them gently in her palms as she picked herself up.

"What'd you find?", I asked, cocking my head to the side in curiosity. It was a few moments before Charlie replied and explained that they looked like her mothers. That she and Ruby had matching sets given to them by her father before he passed on. The swift motion of hair being tucked behind her ears showed the story to be true. So.. perhaps they weren't Ruby's then, Mrs Flemings?

"You folk have permission to be here?"

The three of us spun on our heels and faced the doorway we'd come in from spotting a police officer with hands on his hips and sunglasses on even though the sun had set hours ago. What was he trying to hide.

"This is my daddy's cabin", Charlie explained, "Or was.. he's not with us anymore."
"Some neighbours called, said they saw trespassers", the officer let be known.

Now that was off - the closest neighbour was miles away in a direction we hadn't even come from. With the situation at hand, there were only few possibilities of scenarios which ran through my head as being possible. 1) someone else knew we were coming here and sent police down, 2) Harry lured us here in the hopes we'd get caught or 3) I hadn't thought that far ahead. Being explained that we'd either have to leave the property or face being arrested; it wasn't a hard decision to make and with less than a few words - the three of us returned to the car.

"Well that was--."

Charlie was cut off by the sounds of screaming and bellowing coming from further in the forrest. Before I could stop her, she'd headed in a dark direction, faultless to the semi-thread we'd just received before.

"Fuck, Harry.. c'mon."

If we followed her now, it wouldn't take long to catch up.

The water off the lake was transformed into this melodramatic romantic wonder with the help of a full moon and a shallow breeze which iced the tip of the trees. Charlie had come to a halt at the lakes edge side, almost as if she'd been afraid to enter. As Harry and I closed in, we could hear the screaming getting louder and louder; before dropping, completely out of range.

"Charlie, c'mon", Harry coaxed her, catching up to her first and pulling at her wrist to follow us.
"That sounded like my mom!"
"I thought you said your mom was in the hospital", I questioned her, sure of what I'd heard.
"She is.."
"So..", I pulled for conversation, "Charlie, c'mon."
"Louis I can't just leav--."

Her words were put to an end by Harry picking her up and tossing her over his shoulder. The brittle fighting and cursing continued from the lake side to the car where we had to force her in the back and pop the childlock on in the hopes she wouldn't try to escape. The Fleming girls were notorious for their stubbornness, I would know - I dated one and was in love with another.

"Fuck you both..", was all Charlie let out as she settled into the back seat and crossed her arms over her chest. I really wish I had some kind of response for her attitude but keeping my lips tightly shut was the best thing I could do right now.

"We'll go to the hospital", Harry suggested to her, peering through the rear view mirror. She had no response.
"To the hospital it is then..", I chimed, hoping if she saw her mother it would be for the best.

CHARLIE'S POV

Racing through the carpark before the boys had even managed to find a spot and frustratingly trying to find any admin worker or nurse I could to get information to where my mother was being kept; I sighed and called out for help, causing a scene and throwing a tantrum the only way I knew. After finally gathering the information that she was in block C room 10.8; I rushed to the elevators, clambering in and shut the doors before Louis and Harry could get to them, sending myself up solo; knowing if I saw the hell she-devil I'd want to do it alone.

The ting sound and indicator a lighting when I got to level 10 was enough to wake me up from the temporary dream land I'd fallen into and I followed the signs, walking into room 8 to see a doctor and nurse clearing out the bed.

"Excuse me?", I coughed hoping to get their attention. The nurse in purple scrubs looked over at me with a smile only the virgin mary should have been capable of and eyes like a doe.
"Yes darlin'?", she acknowledged me politely.
"I'm looking for Mara Fleming. I was told she'd tripped down um.. the stairs and um.. was in room 10.8."
"Mara Fleming?", the doctor repeated, paraphrasing my sentence, "And you are?", he asked almost non convinced of authority.
"Charlie Fleming.. her daughter."

The nurse and doctor looked at one another and shared a smile before he turned back to me and cleared his throat as I'd done before. I could hear Louis and Harry catching up behind me and relaxed my shoulders, knowing that with company - I'd be capable of hearing either the best or worse.

"Charlie, your father and sister came to pick her up this afternoon. She was discharged at 4pm."
"My.. um.. doc, my father and sister are, well... you won't believe this but their dead."

The man in white gave me a professional look up and down before smirking. Did he think I was joking?

"Charlie, I'm not one for games or riddles but your father and sister definitely came to collect your mother this afternoon. I signed the paperwork with them."
"So Peter and Ruby Fleming.. came to collect Mara?", I whispered under my breath, although it was still loud enough for everyone to hear.
"No; Ian and Bella Fleming.."

Then the cell inside my pocket began to ring..
