New home

Elsa’s POV

It was getting dark, I’d been walking all day and still couldn’t find anywhere to stay. I didn’t know exactly what it was I was looking for, but somewhere. A cheap hotel, or Bed and Breakfast. Right now all I really wanted was somewhere under a bridge or outside a small shop where I could stay sheltered. I thought about turning back, not necessarily going home, just being in the town. But I couldn’t. I’d spent hours wading through long grass in fields, I wasn’t even sure if I knew how to get back. I found a large tree at the edge of a field and rested on it. It was good enough, for tonight at least. I closed my eyes and imagined I was in bed, sleeping, but then I heard the woman, and decided that no amount of good sleep was worth facing her again.
“Goodnight,” I whispered to myself.
“You’re not going to sleep already?” I opened my eyes suddenly and looked around. Shit, was I going crazy?!
“Hello?” I asked cautiously.
“Chill, it’s just me.” A boy appeared, wait, a boy. It was the boy from the alley, he smiled at me.
“Who are you?” I asked, sounding unintentionally pretentious.
“Harry Thornton, and you?” he put his hand out for me to shake it. I slowly moved my hand forward and shook his.
“I’m Elsa,” I breathed, “how did I not see you? I see everything.” I spoke slowly, trying to stay calm.
“How did you see me at all in that alley is what I want to know.” He laughed and sat next to me, “I guess we both have abilities, and they clash.” I nodded, he was the first seemingly normal person I’d spoken to since I ran away, in fact, before then.
“What’re you doing all the way out here?” I asked, interested in someone else for the first time in years.
“Long story short,” he swept his fingers through his curly hair, I couldn’t help but smile, “My sister was captured by some guys in black suites, when I tried to save her, I met all these random strangers who all somehow knew someone else, linking back to a girl I found escaping the same guys who took my sister. We all ran away together and we’ve been forced to stay undercover in this little shack. But, I escaped.”
“And, that’s the short version?” He nodded.
“What about you? How did you get here?” I thought about my answer carefully before speaking.
“I, I was lied to for a long time. I never really belonged where I thought I did, so I left, while I still could.” I looked at the ground. I could feel tears welling up inside me, I remembered the day I found out. How the man tried to stand up for me. It wasn’t enough to make me stay, but it was something. And, I guess I did have some fun times with Sandra when she was a baby, even though I always resented her. I felt a hand on my back and looked back at the boy, Harry. He wiped away a tear that I hadn’t even noticed and took a deep breath.
“Why don’t you come back with me? It’s not much, but you’ll have a roof over your head, and some people to talk to. We all have abilities too, and I’m sure someone has a story a bit like yours.” He smiled reassuringly. His white teeth were glowing in the moonlight, somehow, he made me feel safe. I nodded and followed him.

“Where the fuck were you?!” said a boy as Harry entered, wait, that was Zayn from the other day!
“Chill, I’m fine.”
“It’s not you I’m worried about,” he saw me, “who’s that?” I was slightly hurt that he didn’t recognise me.
“She’s… she’s got the same problem as us, she’d been run out of town by those men, found her sleeping under a tree.” I couldn’t help blushing, I wasn’t use to attention, I was used to being in the shadows.
“How do we know we can trust you?” he walked over to me, expecting and answer.
“I…” I desperately thought of anything I could say to get me on safe ground in the group, “You don’t.” I said, as confidently as I could. He stared at me, and smiled.
“She’s good everyone,” he walked away. I looked at Harry as he patted me on the back, he quickly began to introduce me to everyone.

Zayn’s POV

I recognised her, of course I did. As far as I could tell the drugs affected my memory as little as they affected my never ending health. I didn’t want to seem bias though, and it was true that I didn’t know if I could trust her. I’d met her once, and that wasn’t exactly a normal situation. Plus, I’d just been shot, and that can cloud even my judgement. I made my way upstairs, the walls were unstable and it looked like this place could go down at any second, but it wouldn’t damage me and I’d been up here enough times to trust that it’ll stay strong. I went down and lay on an old mattress. It’s not really that unhygienic, it was my mattress, and I come here enough to be fairly sure that no hobos have been sleeping on it. I picked up and box from a crack in the wall and rolled up a spliff. I quickly began to relax. I felt light, it was like I was falling into the mattress, deeper and deeper.
“Zayn,” Camilla knocked on the wall next to what once was a door.
“Yeah sis,” I didn’t open my eyes.
“How long are we staying here for?” she asked. I sat up, thinking as well as I could.
“Uh, just as long as we need to I guess.”
“We can’t just stay here,” she almost shouted, “what if we never find out what’s going on!”
“Relax, don’t lose your rag again,” I stared at her, before lying back again. Her fists were gripping themselves and she looked like she wanted to, there she went. She grabbed the old door frame and swung her fist round, punching the wall next to it. She left a clear, fist-sized hole and marks where she’d held the frame.
“Feeling better now?” I asked, cheekily. She stared at her work, calming herself down, “this place is falling down anyway, don’t worry.” I smiled.
“I’ll be downstairs.” She walked away. She was always so good at staying relaxed, but I guess home was her Anker, it kept her that way. As of today, I was all she had, it was never going to be easy. Our parents never knew about her ability, when they found out about mine(to an extent), they became way too overprotective. I could never let that happen to her, I moved out when I turned 16, but never moved far away, just to protect her. I expected her to move out when she turned 16, but it’s been six months since then, and she’s still at home. I guess we were never much alike, I always had a temper. Not that I showed it to her.

Notes

I know it's getting pretty stereotypical with Elsa and Harry, but I don't plan on it staying that way. If you have any good ideas for dating etc. leave a comment.

Thanks so much for reading
