You Gave Me Love

They Don't Matter

“Mummy can I have this?” I glanced from the apples in my hand down at the cereal box in Elizabeth’s hand as she shook it in front of me. I didn’t even need to read what was inside to know it was dangerously full of sugar.

“No, put it back.” I told her firmly, looking back at the apples.

“But Mum?” She whined a pout forming on her face. I sighed and narrowed my eyes at her.

“I said no Elizabeth now put it back.” I kept my tone level.

“Daddy would let me have it.” She pushed further, she always insisted on pushing everything.

“No he would not of. Now put the box back, don’t make me ask again Elizabeth Styles.” I warned her my eyes narrowing in. She huffed before stomping her foot and walking towards where she found the cereal box.

I looked back down to the apples in my hand before noticing the lady who flickered her eyes between both Edward and I. Sighing, I grabbed the apples and put them in the bag before handing them to Edward so he could place them in the trolley. I started to push towards Elizabeth no wanting the lady to begin to recognise the kids or me.

Elizabeth met me, her face set in a scowl and I know that she wanted me to break and cave in but she had no idea just how stubborn I could be.

I pushed the trolled up another isle. The twins changed from walking next to the trolled to walking up ahead of me but always within eyesight. I paused to glance down at my list, debating on what was left to buy and how far away it was. Grabbing my pen I crossed off a few things from my list before looking up to check on the twins.

My eyes widened and I abandoned the trolley when I noticed both the twins standing stock still in front of the lady who had been watching us earlier. Elizabeth was glancing back at me, a worried look on her face.

I rushed forward and reached out to grab onto both of their arms, pulling them closer to me and away from the lady.

“Can I help you?” I asked her, not wanting to sound to frenzied or panicked if she really didn’t have any ulterior motives then talking to my kids.

“Oh. I just wanted to talk to them. They’re Harry Styles children right? I’ve seen the magazines.” She smiled at, her smile whipping across her face and it was all entirely faked. I ignored the hand she held out for me to shake.

“Are you their nanny?” She asked innocently and I narrowed my eyes in on her, suddenly grateful that Harry had decided to stay home with Jackson today.

“I’m their Mother.” I hissed at her, pulling the twins behind me now.

Her smile didn’t falter. “Oh honest mistake. I mean there are so many nannies nowadays who are foreigners. Wasn’t sure if you were getting paid to look after them.”

My accent might not be quite British sounding but I knew the Australian accent was barely there anymore; barely detectable which meant that she did know who I was.

“Look Harry’s not with us today. He’s with our other child that we had together, because we are married. Happily. So don’t talk to my children again. Better yet don’t even look at them.” I turned my back on the lady and began to pull the twins towards the trolley. Eleanor stood next to it a weary look on her face with William on one hip.

“Another Mum trying to hit on Harry through his kids.” Eleanor smiled sympathetically at me.

“It’s ridiculous.” I groaned at her. “He’s not even here yet they still try to get an in.”

“Married Mothers are even worse. Like seriously we can all see the ring on their finger.” Eleanor said.

“Well they can’t seem to see the ones on ours.” I gestured wildly with my left hand.

“Remember when we used to have to worry about teenage girls hating us on Twitter and drunk girls in clubs.” Eleanor smiled.

I groaned. “That makes me feel old.” I frowned at her.

“Not us, just the boys.” She shrugged making me laugh despite the fact that Harry and I were the same age.

“You know, to be fair Harry always kind of had Mum’s hitting on him.” I pointed out. Eleanor burst out laughing, resting one hand on the trolley while the other hand tried to keep William up. I smiled fondly at her and waited until she was finished.

“Are you done for today?” Eleanor asked after calming down looking at my full trolley.

I looked between the twins and my list before nodding. The twins had gotten silent since the lady and I think they were a tiny bit freaked out, both holding on tightly to the trolley. The emergency move we had drilled into them from the first couple of times we were ambushed at the supermarket. It was time to get them home. I could get the rest of the stuff another day.

I nodded and directed the trolley towards the checkouts, trying to rush through before anyone else seemed to recognise us.

The twins were quiet on the way home, occasionally murmuring softly to William who sat between them in the back of the car, their hands occasionally reaching out to catch a toy he dropped or tried to throw. I watched the three of them fondly; loving how close all of our kids were to each other. I was happy that they would experience having a large family since it’s something I never got to experience myself.

Eleanor pulled up in front of my house and beeped the horn so the boys would come out. I pulled Edward out first and he dutifully stood by the boot door, ready to grab a bag. While Eleanor grabbed Elizabeth I reached in for William and pressed a messy kiss to his cheek that made him start to giggle. I smiled down at him fondly and carried him towards the house. Harry pressed a kiss to my cheek on his way out of the house, Louis close behind him.

I found Jackson inside, set up in his crib downstairs in the back lounge room. I pressed a kiss to his forehead while he shook a rattle backwards and forward. I then placed William inside the playpen set up. I looked around for the baby monitor but only found one, figuring one of the boys had it I headed back out the front passing the twins on the way.

“Look after Will and Jacky please.” I called to them before walking out the front door to where Louis and Harry were walking back in, hands laddered down with bags. Hooked onto the back of Harry’s jeans was the baby monitor.

I patted his bum when he passed, throwing a wink over my shoulder when he acted affronted.

I met Eleanor at the car and we grabbed the rest of the bags before heading in to dump them in the kitchen. Elizabeth was in there, Louis helping her onto a stool while she chatted animatedly. Feeling better now that she was home.

“Liz told me about a lady at the store…” Harry trailed off at me and waited expectantly. I rolled my eyes at him, already noticing how protective he sounded. There was nothing he could do now anyway.

“Yes, there was just another desperate Mum who recognised the children to be yours.” I told him, reaching for the milk to begin filling the fridge. For some reason the boys never put away the cold stuff first. “Accused me of being the nanny as well. Apparently I sound foreign.” I rolled my eyes and turned to glare at Louis when he snorted, a biscuit halfway to his mouth while the other hand held out the now open packet of biscuits to a happy Elizabeth.

Before I could snap at him, Harry stepped forward, an annoyed look on his face but Eleanor cut in before he could say anything.

“Don’t worry Haz.” She patted him on the shoulder. “Skye handled it all with her usual wit and stubbornness.” Eleanor teased.

“She threatened the lady.” Louis deadpanned making Eleanor laugh.

“I did not threaten her!” I protested immediately. “I merely insisted that she never speak or look at my children again.”

Louis snorted and took another biscuit, Elizabeth helping herself to another one as well. I glared at him before turning back to Harry who still seemed upset.

“It’s okay Harry. I know how to deal with the occasional crazy fan, no matter what age they are.” I smiled at him, reaching up to wrap my arms around his neck and press a loud kiss to his cheek. “They don’t matter to us.”

@ohhboybands
Oh wow do you all get 3-4 months off?? Haha I only get that at Uni but all other schooling is so much smaller! wow! I think we might have a few other holidays through the year that must be longer then yours? Otherwise that means we got to school way longer then you haha. - The 3-4 month break is good because that's the harshest part of summer - December to February is where we hit like 40 degrees sometimes so it's good not having to study or go to class those days! haha
Yes culture definitely is. I think I always forget how different we all are to each other :P
