CHapter 32: You don't get it.
Sage’s POV
“I’ll be in my room.” I called back to the boys as I started up the stairs.
“Okay.” They all mumbled toward me.
I don’t even care. I just need some space. Liam is obviously mad at me and I understand why but I cant change what happen. It isn't my fault that she felt the desire to hit me. She cheated on him and now she’s mad at me? What the hell is that! I need to fix this stuff with Liam…but I need some time alone.
My bed was calling my name when I walked into my room. I changed into an old sweater and pair of leggings. Crawling into bed, I plugged my phone in and got comfortable.
I’m done with today, this is it.
Liam’s POV
“Are you mad at her?” Harry asked with obvious attitude. “You know she only hit her because Jess hit her first, she was standing up for you.”
“I know Harry.” I snapped back at him. “I understand why she did it and I get it, I shouldn’t be mad but I am. I love Jess and no matter how mad I am at her, I don’t want to see her get hurt. And knowing that my best friend is the one that hurt her…I don’t know how to feel.”
“I get that you love her but you should be supporting Sage, she just got punched in the face for you and all you can do is worry about the girl that cheated on you?! Yea ‘cause that makes sense.” Harry rolled his eyes and walked away to the kitchen.
“I don’t need this right now.” I stood up and headed for the door but Louis stood in my way.
“Liam, don’t leave. I understand where you're coming from and so does Harry, he’s just trying to protect her like you're protecting Jess. Sage stepped in and did what all of us wish we could do but cant because we’re guys. Yes, Sage hit her but she didn’t start the fight, Jessica did. Just remember that Sage put her own pain on the line for you today.” Louis was right, Sage did stand up for me and didn’t start the fight.
“I know Lou, I just need a minute.” I walked upstairs.
Sage was the only one that could do anything and she did even though she hates fighting. She only hates it because she knows her strength is so much higher than a lot of other people and hurts them more than she intended. I know that she deserves a ‘thank you’ but how can I thank her after ignoring her since the fight? I took a deep breath and turned the corner into the game room. Liam, just do it. You know it’s the right thing to do.
I walked out of the room and straight to her door. With a quiet knock, I got no response so I opened the door slowly.
“Sage?” I looked through the slightly dim room and saw her lying in her bed with her baby blanket covering her.
She looked peaceful as I laid down next to her. I rested my head on my arm and felt her shift her weight to her other side so she was facing me now.
“Sage” I whispered touching her arm lightly. “Sage”
“Hmm?” Her eyes fluttered opened to show a deep hazel color and confusion. “What’re you doing in my bed?”
“I need to talk to you… I’m sorry for earlier, I shouldn’t have been upset. You did something that you didn’t want to do for me and I appreciate that. Thank you.” I rambled out.
“It’s fine, you're welcome.” She shrugged and rolled over again.
“Sage, I’m sorry. I know you aren’t going to forgive me right now and I get it. I shouldn’t be upset and the only reason I am is because I love her and never want to see her hurt. But seeing you hurt…that’s something I will never stand for. That’s why I’m here, apologizing to you and not trying to comfort her.” I was almost whispering now.
“Liam, you don’t get it if you think I did it to get back at her.” She rolled over and looked into my eyes. “I did it because that’s exactly what your sisters would do and I know, to me, you're my brother. You don’t understand how much I hate fighting, nobody ever will, and I did it today. I did it because she asked for it. Liam, I love you and it hurt to see you cry over her and I had to make her pay for the pain she caused you.” Her voice was rough, either from almost crying or sleeping.
“I’m so sorry Sage, I love you too. And I get not liking to fight.” I watched her shake her head and tears form in her eyes.
“Everyone says they understand but they don’t, they never will. Not Niall or even Harry, they can control their anger but I cant. Once I start, I usually cant stop it. I don’t like Jess for hurting you but I wish I wouldn’t have done that. I feel terrible and I cant take it back.” Tears fell from her eyes and slid down to the pillow. “I never want to fight again Liam. Not for anyone, no matter how much I love them.”
“I will never put you in that position again.” I wrapped my arm around her and pulled her into my chest. “I’m so sorry Sage. You shouldn’t ever have to do something if you don’t want to.”
She sniffled and buried her face into my neck. Her breath was hot against my skin and made me shiver. I whispered sweet things into her ear until the tears stopped and her heartbeat even out. She was asleep when I let go of her. With a light kiss to her forehead, I rolled out of her bed and walked to the door.
