Stay With Me...

Prologue.

June 26, 2014

“417, Code red, School shooting in Miller May High School, Shots fired, , need people on the scene, over”

Officer Patterson heard over his police radio. He put his coffee back in the holder and grabbed a hold of his radio mic.

“I am in route, over” he replied back.

Patterson let a sigh escape is lips as he turned on his sirens and sped down the street.

When he finally reached Miller May Street he could see people running towards the school. He almost hit a young boy who was running away from the school; he had a blue shirt on which was stained with blood. Patterson felt a clump in his throat. The boy seemed startled but he slowly started to run away again with his hands covering his face trying to wipe the blood from it.

Patterson tried to shake off the image in his head but he couldn’t, it was too horrifying, just to see the fear in the boy’s eyes haunted officer Patterson.

He then carefully started to drive again, reaching the parking lot in front of the school. He could see his fellow officers yelling at the friends and families of the victims to stand back. They wouldn’t listen, they were too busy crying or yelling “MY KIDS IN THERE”.

There was one family that caught Officer Patterson’s attention. It was a mother holding her child in her arms, she was covered in blood. The mother was sobbing hysterically while she tried to wipe the blood away, but it was no use. The child was holding onto her mother for dear life until the officers tried to tear them apart. Officer Patterson didn’t do anything he refused to get out, he didn’t know if he was prepared for what was to come. The child needed medical attention.

“NO! give her back!” the mother yelled.

The child’s eyes were slowly closing, Her head was tilting to the side.

“MEGAN!” the mother yelled before she fell to her knees onto the ground.

Officer Patterson couldn’t stand the sight. He just swiftly looked away and got out of his vehicle. When he was walking to the front of the school a man grabbed his arm and yelled

“Sir! Y-you have to help .. m-my son!”.

Patterson took a look at the son. There was no doubt in his mind that the boy was dead.

“please!” the man begged as he crawled to his son and held his hand “please don’t go.. please.. you’re all I have left. Please”.

Patterson sighed “I don’t think there is anything we can do… I’m sorry” Patterson stated as he started to walk again.

He could hear the man sobbing and mumbling something that Patterson just couldn’t understand.

Patterson thought that was all he could take until someone tapped his shoulder.

“Have you seen this boy…” a man asked as he showed Patterson a picture.

The boy had black hair and blue eyes, he had a scare at the top of his forehead. Patterson shook his head and started walking once again.

When Patterson finally reached the front doors another officer let him in “Did we get the gun man..” Patterson asked.

“Yes Sir… it was the photography teacher, Mr. Smith. He didn’t start shooting until 5th period and-“ the young officer was saying until he was cut off.

“I didn’t ask for the whole story” Patterson said in a blunt tone.

The young officer then nodded his head.

“Lead me to the photography room.. where it started” Patterson requested.

The young officer then turned sharply and headed up the stairs.

Patterson felt sick at the sight. There was blood all over the rails and the stairs. When they reached the top of the stairway he saw a familiar face. It was the boy in the picture the man showed him earlier. He had the same piercing eyes and the same scar at the top of his forehead.

“You know the kid?...” the young officer asked.

“No….” Patterson replied bluntly as he stood up straight.

They finally reached the photography room. It was the most horrific sight Patterson has ever seen. Bodies everywhere… blood stains all over the desk..Papers everywhere.

“I’m sorry, Officer Patterson, but they need me in the gym, they found more survivors.” The young officer said.

Patterson just gave him a nod. When he left the room Patterson started to walk around.

As Patterson was walking towards a desk in the middle of the room he accidentally kicked something. He quickly looked down and noticed it was purple diary with. On the front it said ‘DO NOT OPEN... Property of Delilah May’. Patterson slowly picked it up, he quietly opened it and begun to read the story about Delilah and the up and downs of her life that would make him appreciate the rest of his life
