(Sophie’s POV)
“Good evening, California! We’re so glad that you’re tuning in once again to our news channel. We will continue with some rather shocking weather announcements that you all might want to hear. Ted?”

“Thanks Cheryl. Well, we’re expecting a rather nasty rainstorm tonight down in the southern part of the state. It should start around six o’clock and end around tomorrow morning and you might want to get some flood insurance. Ha-ha-ha. The northern part of the state shouldn’t be affected, except for maybe some strong winds later in the night coming from the east-”

“Jo!” I screamed, hitting the upper arm of the girl sitting next to me, all in good humor of course. “What the heck!?”

“What?” she asked sarcastically, taking another handful of popcorn, “Weather reports annoy me.”

“But that rainstorm’s going to be HERE!” I took the remote back from her, but it had already gone to commercial. “Josephine,” I growled threateningly.

“Sorry girl,” she laughed, chewing thoughtfully, “but don’t call me that.”

“Josephine! Josephine!” I shouted tauntingly, taking a handful of the popped kernels and throwing them at her. She instantly retaliated and we ended up knocking the bowl over. “Now look at what you did.”

“Oh shut up,” she pushed my arm gently. Jo and I had been friends since kindergarten, which was strange because we were so opposite. She loved pink, I loved blue so on so forth, but we were still the best of friends.

Our parents had been close for a long time, thus causing us to be stuck together on multiple occasions, like now for instance. They had all gone on a trip to somewhere in South America for the summer, sticking both Jo and me at my house with my grandma.

She snatched the remote away again and continued flipping through the channels until she found something interesting.

I wasn’t really paying attention, due to my head being engulfed in the DVD booklet. It was movie night and we had yet to pick one. Jo suddenly screamed.

“What?” I threw the disks down, worried that she might have been hurt.

She entwined her fingers in her golden hair that was tied back in a ponytail, “OMG it’s One Direction!”

“Seriously?” I shook my head and picked up the DVD book again, “That ridiculously famous band that you obsess over?”

“Oh come on,” she squealed, “They’re five embodiments of hot, British Irish, AMAZINGNESS! And admit it, you like them too. I mean, if you think about it, they’re even our age.”

I just scoffed and rolled my eyes, “No they’re not, you’re eighteen, I’m seventeen and the youngest one’s like what, nineteen?”

“Eighteen!” Jo snapped, frowning comically at my ignorance on the subject.

“And WHAT?” I laughed, completely amused. I said all of the following words teasingly, “You think one day you’ll meet them and they’ll ALL just fall miraculously in love with you and… fight to the death?”

Jo’s eyes got big, I could tell she was about to get defensive, “Soph, it’s likely I won’t even MEET them. Of course, if I did, it would only be for like a second and would require days- no, WEEKS of intensive stalking on Twitter.”

“Like you don’t already do that,” I challenged humorously. Jo opened her mouth to give what would be a biting retort when a shadow blocked the hallway light.

“Would you girls like me to make anything before I go to sleep?” my grandma poked her head into the room.

Giving a harsh look at Jo, I shook my head, “No thank you grandma.”

“Are you sure? I can make you cookies,” she smiled sweetly.

Before I could respond, Jo sat up, having been rolling on the floor just seconds ago, “Oh that would be wonderful!”

“Okay, I’ll be right up with them!” she exited and continued downstairs.

“Jo!” I scolded, wrinkling my nose at her, “My grandmother is NOT your personal slave!” She shrugged, giving me a smile. By the time my grandma came back upstairs, we had picked a movie and put it in, of course, only after the special on One Direction finished.

“Cookies are downstairs, let them cool for another five minutes,” she instructed.

“Thanks grandma!” I got up and gave her a kiss goodnight.

“Sleep tight sweetheart,” she almost walked out, but turned around for a second, lightly laughing, “Both of you.”

“Thanks, Mrs. Neil,” Jo smiled, “Lots of love.”

“Night, grandma,” I watched her walk to the guest room and close the door.

We continued watching the movie until eleven o’clock. By this time, we could hear the rain over the speakers. I took a quick look out of the window and saw how awful the rain was. It was coming down in sheets and sounded like someone constantly dragging multiple trash bins outside and making the ‘shh’ sound into a megaphone.

“Rain sounds awful,” Jo stood up from the couch and stretched, “I’d hate to be stuck out there in THAT. Now, let’s go have those cookies!”

We ran downstairs and into the kitchen, finding the baking sheet, cooling, on top of the stove. Jo rushed over, and was about to sink her teeth into one when there was a knock at the door.

I looked at the clock, “What idiot is going around selling stuff at this ungodly hour? Not to mention in this weather.”

“You never know who it might be,” Jo went to answer the door, “I mean, for all we know it could be-”

“Yeah I know,” my voice stopped her before she opened the door, “It could be your little ‘celebrity crushes.’” I laughed softly as another sharp, frantic knock made Jo turn back to the door.

“They’re not just ‘celebrity crushes,’” she grinned at me, “They’re amazing, talented, and-”

“And what?” I asked, teasing. I had turned my back to her to pick up a cookie when I noticed she stopped talking, which wasn’t like her at all. “What?”

“And they’re standing right here.”
