Perfectly Entwined

two!

Charlotte ran to the long line in the hotel and Penelope chased after her. She had taken her hoodie off and left it in the car because it got to be blazing hot by the time they were parking.

“See, Nelly!” Charlotte pouted. “We’re like the millionth people in line! If you did your make up, we’d be two millionth!”

Penelope laughed, “Oh, really? Well I wouldn’t look like hell either, now would I?”

“You look pretty!” The niece shouted. She crossed her arms defiantly as if that made the statement final.

“Whatever!” The aunt said sticking her tongue out. Her niece imitated the action. “Come here, silly!” she lifted Charlotte off her feet and had her wrap her legs around her waist. “Can you see them?”

The small girl nodded furiously and pointed. “I can’t wait to meet them!”

“It’s so exciting, right? Who’s your favorite?”

“I love them all!” She squealed as if it should be obvious.

“Really? Me too.” Penelope said jokingly.

“Excuse me?” A woman’s voice came from behind them. “Is that your daughter?”

Penelope spun around quickly. She assumed she was about to be chastised for having a child at a young age and it wasn’t even her kid.

“She’s my aunt,” Charlotte chimed in.

The woman smiled, “Oh, I only asked because you look about my daughter, Hadley’s, age.” The woman was holding the hand of a small blonde girl. “Hi, I’m Casey.”

“Penelope,” She introduced herself. “Everyone calls me Nell though. This is my niece Charlotte.”

“I’m eight years old.” Charlotte said to Hadley as she was put back down to stand.

“I’m seven.” Hadley said. Charlotte and Hadley began talking about all of their favorite One Direction songs and merchandise that they have.

“So I recon you’re pretty excited to meet the boys as well?” Casey smiled.

“Well, yeah I like their music, but I don’t really have time to obsess over them because I’m always working or doing something.”

“Really? How old are you?”

“I’m nineteen, but I live on my own so I have to work a lot.”

“Oh, I completely understand. I had Hadley when I was eighteen and I’ve been working ever since. I’m still with her father and everything, but of course it’s still difficult. We decided to live in a nice neighborhood so we could put Hadley in a good school so things are expensive.”

“Yeah, my brother and his wife work a lot to afford everything. Anthony was actually supposed to be here today, but he got stuck in America for work, so now I’m here.” Penelope shrugged. “ You know, I babysit Charlotte all the time. It would be really nice to have Hadley over as well so she can have someone to play with.”

“They do seem to get along well don’t they?” Casey looked over at the two girls giggling and dancing around as if they’d known one another their entire lives. “Here,” she handed her phone to
Penelope. “Put your number in and I’ll call you so you’ll have my number.”

“Cool, yeah that would be amazing. I’m sure my brother, Anthony, and his wife, Mage, would love to meet you. They’re only a couple years older than you.”

“That’d be lovely, it’s hard meeting new friends when you’re always working, you know?”

“Oh my goodness, yes. I know exactly what you mean,” Penelope sighed. “I’m so happy to have a new friend,” she said laughing. They hugged and began chatting about crazy antics that their niece
and daughter have gotten into.

**

After a couple hours the new friends were only two rows away from the meet and greet table. Suddenly, Penelope noticed something had hit her foot. She looked down. It was a sharpie.

“I’m sorry, miss!” Penelope looked over and saw Harry Styles talking to her. “I got a little excited
and my pen flung over there. Would you mind getting it? I didn’t mean for it to hit you.”

“It’s not a big deal really,” She bent over to pick up the pen and handed it to the girl in front of her to give to him and turned back around to continue her conversation with Casey.

Harry shouted over the crowd, “Thank you!” Penelope turned to smile and wave back at him.

“Um, Nell,” They had gotten very comfortable with one another since there’s been nothing to do but talk for the last two hours. “Harry threw that pen over here. It wasn’t an accident.”

“What are you on about?” Penelope said rolling her eyes.

“They were staring at your arse when you went to pick that sharpie up,” She whispered so the girls couldn’t hear. “All of ‘em did. They were smiling from ear to ear.”

“Get out! You’ve cracked. Standing in this line for so long is making you see things.”

“I’m serious,” Casey laughed. “And when you’re wearing them fancy pants, who can blame them?”

Penelope’s jaw dropped. “You, stop it with that!” She gently shoved her friend’s arm. The line continued to move and the girls got progressively closer to the table.
