Past, Present, and Future

Jordan
The rest of the day was spent unpacking and showing the boys around the lake house.
When Nick and Carson finally arrived together, Lauren and I introduced them to the boys and they shook hands. My brother asked Louis how Kevin was doing and then they just sort of became friends. Carson was showing Louis his collection of snowmobiles that we used when we came up for Christmas Break. Nick and Liam really seemed to get along as well. They have extremely similar personalities and are just very compatible in general. My sister was attending beauty school so she and Zayn talked hair. And then at dinner, things got bad.
"Hey, have you seen Louise? I haven't seen her all day," I asked my sister.
"Umm, no I haven't. Why?"
"Well, you know. She was really special to me and I wanted her to meet Niall."
"I didn't see her the last long weekend either, but I'm sure it's nothing," Paige said, looking away.
Something was going on. Paige always looked me in the eye.
When Annie walked past me, I asked her as well.
"No, but I'm not supposed to talk about her, Jordan."
"Why not?" I asked.
But she only shook her head.
Why couldn't Annie talk to me about Louise? I had to ask Carson. He would tell me the truth.
I texted Carson that I needed to talk to him immediately after dinner. He read it and quickly agreed.
After dinner, I told Niall to strike up a conversation with my dad and talk about politics, reminding him my dad was republican and wouldn't approve of me dating a democrat. Not that Niall was, he had just expressed an interest in Obama, and he wasn't someone my parents looked up to.
When Carson and I were alone, I cracked my knuckles and began to speak.
"Where is Louise?" I asked bluntly.
"Who?"
"Louise Thompson. One of the housekeepers."
"Oh, well Mom asked me not to talk about her."
"That's what everyone keeps saying. Carson, I want to know what happened to her. She would normally be here."
"She left Jordan. Last year, when you stayed in London with Lauren , she left halfway through the week."
"What do you mean she left? Without saying goodbye?" I asked quizzically.
"I don't know why but yeah. She seemed kind of depressed. Now look, I wasn't supposed to tell you any of this and I've already said too much."
"But I don't understand! Why doesn't anyone want me to know?"
"I don't know. But maybe it's for the best," he said as he walked away.
I groaned. What was going on? I was determined to find out.

Jordan came back a few minutes after Carson. Mr. and Mrs. Caudell wanted us to play a giant game of Apples to Apples with teams of two. Six teams makes for a big game. Naturally I was with Harry, Jordan was with Niall, Carson was with Nick, Louis was with Liam, Zayn was with Paige, and our parents were paired up accordingly.
The game finished about an hour later and everyone left for bed except me, Jordan, and her parents.
"Mom, can I ask you something?" Jordan asked.
"Of course honey. What is it?"
"What happened to Louise?"
Mrs. Caudell have her a puzzled look.
"Louise Thompson, Mom. Or don't you remember?"
"Honey, she left. And what's bringing this about all of a sudden?"
"All of a sudden? She's been gone for a year and no one wanted to tell me? I'm not a child anymore!"
"I wanted to protect you."
"From what?"
"The world. Louise made a wrong decision and I fired her."
"You fired her?! Mother how could you?!" Jordan yelled as she stomped off. I wouldn't have been surprised if the other eight people in the house had heard.
"I had to," was all Mrs. Caudell said before she retired to her room.
Mr. Caudell and I awkwardly went to our rooms after that.
Jordan was so distraught that she forgot to ask her mom the reason she fired Louise.

I was furious. How could my mother have fired my favorite among the maids?! She was like a big sister to me. One I liked anyway.
"Why would she just fire her?! What wrong could Louise do in anyone's eyes?" I screamed to no one in particular.
I was sitting on the old swing under a willow tree by the lake. It was just after church on Sunday and I was still wearing my church clothes, tribal print dress and a faded jean jacket.
I sobbed my heart out for hours until I finally heard someone calling after me. Immediately I knew who it was. Niall.
He didn't say anything when he reached me, just walked behind me and hugged me. I quickly collected myself and whimpered, "Niall why would my mom fire her? What could Louise have done?"
He kissed my forehead and motioned for me to get up so I could sit in his lap.
"I don't know Princess. But I know your mum wouldn't fire her for no reason."
"If this is what a broken heart feels like, I don't ever want to feel it for real," I whimpered.
He chuckled. "I'll never break your heart Princess."
I smiled and looked at the ground.
"The way you smile at the ground it ain't hard to tell you don't know you're beautiful."
I laughed. "Not exactly the mood I was going for. I was thinking Moments but I suppose that was appropriate."
"I'm sorry. You were looking at the ground and smiling- I couldn't resist!" He laughed with me. "Now,back to Louise."
I felt my face somber instantly.
"The only way to know is ask your mum herself," he sighed.
"Okay. Thanks Nialler," I said and kissed him on the cheek before walking back to the house.
It sure seemed to be a lot easier said than done.

Notes

Okay so i realize Louise Thompson is actually like a famous British woman, but in this story, she's not. sorry for any confusion I may have caused.
