Make Me

I Met Him Back In Time

It took two days to work up the courage to talk to Harry about her past and Justice still wasn’t sure she wanted to. She had been trying to forget about it, pretend that she never picked up a cigarette, that her mom was alive, that her dad wasn’t a drunk. She wanted it all to be some bad dream, but it was her life and she owed it to him to tell the story.

After the concert, the two climbed up to the venues roof top. Fans were still leaving and the merch crew were in the process of take down, but they were above it all; watching as the people scurried about like ants. The air was silent, still and held a chill, but the two were more concerned with each other.

“It’s beautiful up here,” Justice said as she sat on the edge of the building. “The city scape is kind of haunting, but in a dark, beautiful way.”

“Yeah, but it seems a bit lonely,” Harry replied as he sat beside her on the cold cement ledge.

“Well, I guess,” she started, her hair falling over his shoulder as she glanced at her camera as it hung around her neck, “But not when you’re in the picture.” Snapping a shot of him with the city scape in the background, she smiled.

“That was a bit cheesy,” he laughed, his eyes betraying his words as it was clear he enjoyed her comment. As cheesy as it was, Justice still thought it fit. He had an aura about him that just made the night feel more like home, like she was with someone that actually cared.

“Oh, you love it and you know it,” she shot back as she let the camera hang from her neck once again.

“Maybe.” A gust of wind cut through the air as he watched Justice for a moment.

“There are a few things I think you should know about me before this thing, whatever it is, gets too far,” she stated her eyes falling to her lap. They needed to discuss the relationships status and get their baggage out in the open. She really liked Harry and if they were going to last, she had to tell him.

“Alright, it’s nothing too bad is it?”

“No, at least I don’t think so,” she replied. “I guess the first thing is I used to smoke. I started at fifteen and quit when I was seventeen.”

“That’s nothing,” Harry said a small chuckle in his voice as he tugged on the navy blazer he wore.

“Well, then there’s the history of dating clients,” she told him slowly.

“History of dating clients?”

“It just kind of happened,” she explained. “The first time I was fifteen and on a tour with my dad, then I met Andrew, but we didn’t date until after Cody. So you are number four in terms of clients, but to be honest I don’t really count Michael or Cody, we weren’t together long.”

“You do this pretty often then?” He asked looking a bit hurt.

“No, I don’t.” Defensively Justice crossed her arms. “The only client that I seriously dated was Andrew and that lasted for two years. It’s not like I go into a job hoping to find someone. I mean, I wasn’t looking for a crush when I met you, but look at this now. We’re at some weird moment; that spot between friends and something more. I don’t think either of us thought we’d end up here.”

“True, but it just wasn’t something I expected,” he replied his green eyes finding her as his fingers grazed her arm. “I didn’t think you had dated clients before.”

“Well, I have,” she started not wanting to look at him, afraid that his eyes might judge her. “I hope that doesn’t change things. I mean I don’t even know what we are; if were together or not, but I really like you.”

His fingertips swept across her cheeks before his lips pressed to hers. As he pulled away he said, “I don’t think it changes much of anything. For the moment, you’re mine and I’m yours.”

On the twelfth floor of the high rise office building, Justice entered room twenty four and was surprised to find it empty. The swiveling chairs were still and quiet, but she didn’t mind. It gave her time to set up the photos so that the meeting could go quickly. All she wanted was to get it over with, be done with the boys of One Direction. If she could help it, she would never see them again. It would be too hard after everything. She still loved the boys and missed Louis’s sassy humor, but the thought of being in the same room as Harry made her sad and angry and just the tiniest bit nervous. They had been something, but it all went away at the end of the tour.

Pulling the manila folder from her bag, she started lining up the pictures. Each photo captured an event on its glossy surface, from the boys shaking the hands of fans or giving hugs at meet and greets to the more private moments of practicing backstage and warming up as they got dressed. Justice had seen it all, the shows, the hard work and the fun. The early part of the tour was all smiles, but as the line progressed she could see the strain on their faces, the smiles not quite meeting their eyes. It was clear they missed home, but they still managed to have fun and put on great shows.

As she lay down a picture from the Vegas show, her breath caught in her throat. That night had changed her life irrevocable. She couldn’t go back and change it; all she could do was play the memory in her head. It had been a great night, but it was the entire reason for the gag order. If she had to do something over again, she never would have gone out with the boys that night. She would have stayed at the hotel with Maria and gambled or hit the pool. It would have saved her a lot of heartache.
