Losing Nala

TALIA'S POV

"Talia Joy." The nurse called from the white hospital. I nervously walked with Nala to the room where the nurse led us.

"The doctor will be with you in a minute. We have taken your dog's weight and the X-rays are being read by Mr. Sherman." The nurse said before walking out.

Nala sat on the dog bed that had been set up for her. I couldn't help but to shake in my seat while petting her.

"Ms. Joy?" The doctor asked slightly opening the door.

"Yes." I said sitting up instantly. I watched as he put up pictures on the computer.

"Well we have the X-ray results." He said and I stood up to see.

"Are you very attached to this dog?" He asked. I responded with a shake of my head.

"Well we're gonna have some people come in and I need you to sit down. Do you have any family that could come?" He said. He opened the door and signaled people to come in. I sat down and the people sat next to me.

"So today we have some news." The doctor started.

"What is it." I said. I had never felt this feeling but my heart hurt.

"Nala has a very common cancer in her leg. It's actually better she hor her leg because then we wouldn't know. I-" the doctor said as I felt big tears fall on my face.

"What? No! This isn't real! No it's not." I screamed.

"It's going to be ok. Let's listen to the doctor." Said one of the people who sat next to me. I nodded and turned my attention back to doctors, still bawling.

"She will have this limp and a swollen leg." The doctor explained.

"I'll pay for Chemo, radiation, anything." I said.

"She's an old dog. It will just make her more sick and give her less time." He explained.

"Are you sure?" I said.

"There is a 10% chance that it's an infection. We will read the X-rays deeper and get back to you on Monday." He said.

Nala limped up to me and kissed my hand which brought more tears.

"Is there anyone you would like to call." Asked the lady on the right of me.

"My phones over there. Call Lindsay Horvath." I sobbed. Nala nudged my hand and I wrapped my arms around her bawling into her fur.

"Lindsay will be here soon." The lady said. They soon lead me out with my dog to the waiting room. Lindsay stood in shock at the door.

"Tal!" She said catching me in a hug. "Lets take you two home." She said.
