Overworked

Harry’s P.O.V
-3 months later-
I stood in the airport waiting for Maddie and the kids to walk through baggage claim. I’ve been lost without them. We have spoken at least once every couple of days and we’ve all been okay really. I looked at the carousel again and saw her with the kids. I’ve missed them so much. Just seeing them makes my heart beat faster. I watched as Maddie grabbed their suitcases and then tried to persuade the children to pull their own. Adam turned around and ran straight towards me, leaving Maddie with his suitcase. She rolled her eyes and talked to Brooklyn and Lis as they walked towards me. “Dad!” Adam shouted. I hugged him and picked him up.
“Hey,” I smiled.
“I’ve missed you, so has mum, when are you coming home?” He asked and I put him down.
“Not for another 3 months mate, sorry,” I said. He nodded with a look of sadness in his eyes and the girls came through the door. Lis ran towards me with Brooklyn close behind her pulling her own suitcase. I hugged them both and then it was Maddie. She looked different. Maybe she’s tired; she did just fly with 3 hyper kids, maybe that’s why. But there was definitely something different about her. I went to hug her and she pulled back. That was weird. She mumbled something about paps and I kissed her on the cheek and took Brooke and Adam’s suitcases. We walked to the van and they all got in but Maddie sat the furthest away from me. I saw her looking at her phone so I texted her.
To: My Baby
What’ve I done? Why are you avoiding me?x
She looked up and I looked away.
From: My Baby
Nothing. I’m not but I just don’t want the paps seeing us and the kids wanted to be near you. I love you x
I smiled at her and she smiled back. I tried to work out what was different about her. She was wearing different clothes but that’s probably just because she’s travelling. We got to the hotel that we’re staying in at the moment and I helped everyone out of the van. I took the kids suitcases and we went inside. The boys were waiting and when they went to hug Maddie she stepped back just the same as she did with me. Surely she isn’t still pissed off that we left.
“What’s up with her? She looks… different,” Louis whispered in my ear.
“I don’t know but I was thinking that. I can’t work out why though.” I whispered back. I took the kids up to their room which is joined onto ours and then went back to Maddie in our room.
“Can I have a hug now? I haven’t seen you for three months and the first thing you did was reject me.” I said. She nodded and stood up slowly walking over to me. She reached me and I pulled her in for a hug and it felt odd. I moved my hands down her back making her move closer to me. There is definitely something different about this. That’s when I felt her hard stomach against my chest. What? I thought she didn’t want this. She even said it herself. “Are you, are you pregnant?” I asked. She nodded and I smiled. “Why didn’t you tell me when you found out?” I questioned excitedly.
“I thought it would be better for you to find out as a surprise. It’s been hard keeping the kids quiet for the last 2 months.” So that’s why she didn’t want to hug me or the lads when we were in view of cameras. Because she didn’t want them knowing and if we reacted how I did then I’m sure they would have caught on. I kissed her and felt her smile into the kiss. “I’ve missed you so much.” She whispered with her arms around my neck.
God I’ve missed her, way more than she knows. I’ve missed her wandering around the house without a care in the world and the way her smile just lights up my day. I’ve missed waking up to her kisses or to see her sitting doing her hair or make up. I’ve missed watching her play with the children or working so hard that she doesn’t know I’m there.0
“I’ve missed you too.” I told her. I wonder whether the others will notice.
“Can you hug the lads now and see if they notice?”
“Sure, go and get Lis. Adam and Brooklyn can look after themselves but Lis can’t.” She reminded me. I nodded and went and got Melissa.
“Did you tell him Mummy?” She ran into our room.
“Yes princess.” Maddie answered smiling. That smile. I’ve missed it so much these past 3 months. If I was having a bad day all I had to do was Skype her and just seeing that smile would make my day 100 times better.
“Mummy’s having another baby daddy!” Lis jumped up and down excitedly. I smiled at her and picked her up.
“I know sweetie.” I kissed her forehead. We went downstairs and Maddie hugged the boys and none of them said anything but I’m pretty sure they noticed. We went and sat in the lounge at the back of the hotel and they started asking her about the girls and their kids. She showed Zayn a picture of George and he honestly looked so proud seeing it.
“So how’ve you been?” Louis finally asked.
“I’ve been good, I was ill for a bit but I’m alright now.” Maddie replied. My phone buzzed and I looked at it.
From: Louis
Is she pregnant? I don’t want to say anything just in case you haven’t told Lis or something.
I showed Maddie and she nodded at him making him awhh.
“What?” Niall looked at him confused. He looked at us and we nodded telling him it was okay.
“Maddie’s pregnant.” He said so only our group could hear.
“That’s great news! Congratulations.” They all said. Maddie smiled and then went and hugged them again.
“When did you find out?” Liam asked.
“A month after you guys left. I’m 4 months gone so it wasn’t even when we were trying that I got pregnant. I already was.” Maddie explained. I tried to think back to before we were trying and then I remembered the night when the kids were all doing something and we decided to have some fun.
“I feel so bad. Out of all your pregnancies I’ve been there for two of them.”
“That’s half. But you’ve always been there for the most important bit. If you missed that then I would not be impressed.” She hugged me.
“Well I won’t miss that, ever.” I kissed her. We talked with the boys for a while and then Maddie and I took Lis back upstairs to bed. It’s about 11pm now. Maddie put her to bed and then got ready for bed herself and her bump was clearer in her pyjamas. “Have any paps caught on yet?” I asked.
“Nope, I’ve been dressing like this for ages so no one thinks anything has changed but this bump is growing fast.” She rubbed her hand over it. We had a conversation about the doctors for a while and then got into bed.
“God I’ve missed you.” I pulled her closer to me.
“I’ve missed you too.” She nuzzled her head into my chest. I can’t believe I’ve left her pregnant on her own for the last 3 months. I put my hand on her bump and she laughed quietly. “Hands to yourself mister,” She said. I smiled and moved my hand around. “You don’t have to feel guilty you know. I don’t mind that you’re not there just as long as you’re around when the baby is born.” She said into my chest. She knows me so well.
“But I do feel guilty. You’re 4 months pregnant looking after 3 children on your own.” I sighed.
“Oh well. Let’s just enjoy our time as a family this week babe.”
Maddie’s P.O.V
I lay awake thinking about Harry. I get why he’s worried but he really doesn’t need to be. I don’t care that he’s not around at the moment. I really don’t. I’m just grateful that he cares. When I found out I was pregnant, I panicked so much. I thought I wouldn’t be able to cope without Harry around but surprisingly I’m doing quite well. I’m really looking forward to this week. I’ve missed Harry loads. I really have. I slowly drifted off to sleep listening to the deep breathing of the man I have missed so much these last three months.
The bright glow of the sun shining through the balcony doors was what brought me out of my slumber. Harry was facing away from them so wasn’t bothered by them. I got out of bed careful not to wake him and went to my suitcase. I pulled out some white jeans and a loose top and went into the bathroom to get dressed. After I was dressed I went out onto the balcony and sat down looking out at the view. I got my phone out of my pocket and took a picture.

I posted it and scrolled through my comments.

I laughed and typed my reply.

I turned around and Harry was walking through the doors. He kissed the top of my head and sat down next to me. “You know me and Louis have already planned to keep you two apart. We’re not stupid; we know if you’re together you’ll spend all your time with each other and not us.” He said. Of course they have, they’ll have thought all of this through.

I laughed and locked my phone.
“Louis said its okay.” I turned to Harry.
“Just spend some time with me too okay, not just El. I haven’t seen you in 3 months.” He pointed out. I got up from my chair and hugged him.
“Get dressed, I’m going to sort out the kids and then we can go somewhere, okay?” I questioned.
“Yeah sure,” He went inside and I went to the kids’ room. I woke them all up and picked out their outfits. They got dressed and then we went to join Harry. “Breakfast and then the beach?” He suggested.
“Sounds like a plan.” I smiled. We went down to breakfast and Louis and Niall were already down there. As I walked past Louis grabbed my arm.
“Don’t even think about stealing my wife when she gets here.” He said. I laughed.
“Don’t you have rehearsals tomorrow Louis?” I teased.
“You’re a bitch.” He replied.
“But you love me.” I walked off. I heard him and Niall laughing and went over to get my breakfast. I got some cereal and went and sat down next to Brooklyn. I ate my breakfast and talked to the kids and then we went upstairs to get ready for the beach. “Do you have a hire car?” I asked Harry.
“Yeah, it’s a range rover, sorry.” He replied. I don’t know why but he thinks I hate them. I just don’t like them but I’d drive one if I had to.
“That’s fine.” I said. We all went downstairs and got into the car and Harry started to drive to Hollywood Beach. The kids all filled him in on what he’d been missing and I just played around on my phone. We stopped in traffic and Harry reached over putting his hand on my leg.
“You alright?” He asked.
“Yeah,” I smiled at him. We started moving again and Harry continued to drive to the beach. We got there and the kids jumped out of the car leaving Harry and I alone.
“What’s the matter?” He questioned.
“Nothing,” I leant over the console and kissed him. I got out of the car and joined the kids on the beach. They went to play in the sea and Harry came and sat down next to me.
“You realise we’ll be here all day?” He laughed watching the children splash each other.
“Oh well, at least they get to have fun.” I said.
