A life of Payne
I took one last deep breath before stepping out of the elevator on the right floor.
My body trembled as I walked further down the hall and towards my so called home, not that it felt like a home at the moment.
I decided against just walking in as Liam could be anywhere inside.
Instead I raised my hand very shakily and was ready to knock when my phone buzzed in my jacket pocket. I cringed as I pulled my phone out since I already knew who it was.
He calls every hour like clock work but thankfully I had only made the mistake of answering his call the first time and since then I learnt to always check the caller ID.
He pleaded with me to take him back when I answered and in every voice mail as well but he wasn't the one who had made the mistake it was me, I couldn't take him back when I was the one that was in the wrong.
I let him down and I can't talk to him at all until I fix this.
No matter how long it takes.
It's what we both deserve.
Biting my lip softly, I declined the call yet again and shakily shoved my phone back into my pocket.
I knocked twice before letting out a sigh and stumbling back a few feet.
The door swung open after a few seconds and I squeezed my eyes shut suddenly feeling like this was too soon.
"Katie?" I heard Liam's voice softly call my name and I stayed completely still for a few minutes before growing the courage to open my eyes.
He offered me a small smile, my lips quivered as I tried to smile back at him but failed miserably.
"C-can I come in?" I asked shyly and he sighed sadly.
"This is still your home sweetheart, you don't have to ask permission to come in."
I nodded softly, not bothering to say anything back.
He closed the door softly yet I still jumped at the sudden sound, I carefully watched him as he strolled towards the circular couch and sat down on one end.
I, of course, sat down right at the other end of the couch so I was completely out of reaching distance for him.
And the awkward silence cued much faster than I had expected it too, letting me know that this was probably going to be worse than I thought it would be.
"We need to talk about this, like grown ups kiddo." He practically cooed at me making me burst into tears.
"Kiddo? Really?! Are you suddenly going to pretend that the last six months of being siblings never happened?!"
His look of sympathy changed into one of shock in a matter of seconds as he let my words sink in.
"Well why would I really want to remember any of this year when all you've done is been hurt."
I sobbed into my hands as I let my gaze fall from his.
I wanted him to be wrong with his words but unlucky for me, he was right.
"And you brought it on yourself most of the time." He suddenly snapped making me head shoot up to stare at him in an unbelievable way.
His look of sympathy was completely washed away and he only looked angry now.
My words came out in a whisper as I was still in a state of shock.
He kept his lips sealed this time as he glared hatefully at the ground rather than at me.
"You're meant to be my brother Liam so why don't you try acting like it! You're all I have left and right now I'm willing to have nothing instead if it means I don't have to be around you!"
I took a few deep and uneven breathes after my rant and he just bitterly laughed at me.
"You won't talk to Niall so that's why he's not here. You broke up with Calum so that's your own fault. And let me guess, Ashley is mad at you because you're the reason she broke up with Harry."
My eyes widened at his harsh tone as he now glared right at me.
I didn't know what else to say as another sob escaped my dry throat and I made a dash to my bedroom knowing I would have better luck getting there than to the front door.
I gave Katie about half an hour to calm down before I slowly stood from my position on the couch and walked towards her bedroom.
Deep down I was silently thankful that she decided to run to her room rather than leaving me again.
I really hated not knowing where she was.
Once I was standing outside her bedroom door, I could still hear her cries quite clearly making me sigh knowing that her tears were because of me.
I knew right then that I was too harsh on her when she was in this emotional state but I just wanted to get across the point that this was her responsibility to deal with, I didn't actually mean to make her think I wouldn't be there for her.
"Katie? I'm sorry sweetheart." I stated hesitantly as I entered her room.
She paid no notice to my presence as I walked over to her still screaming and shaking frame that was laying in the middle of her bed.
I slowly raised one hand to rub her back but as soon as I touched her, she screamed and jerked away from me with a look of hate in her eyes.
"I said I was sorry!" I snapped, still having anger to vent about this whole situation.
"I don't care, I'm leaving for good." She whispered as she dropped her gaze from me and let her shaking hand run over her flat stomach.
"Are you going to mom and dad's" I asked hopeful that she'll be smart and stay somewhere safe.
She didn't answer me as she scrambled off the bed and in the direction of her computer desk.
Her hand gripped the handle of the top draw before she paused for a few seconds, like she was trying to think of her escape plan. She always felt the need to run from her problems and this time was no different.
After a couple more seconds, she yanked open the draw and lifted out her passport without even looking in the draw, like she knew it would come to this.
"I'll take that as a no, you're not going to mum and dad's." I stated to myself as it didn't seem as if she was even listening.
I watched helplessly, as if my feet were glued to the floor.
She walked away without another word and as soon as I heard the front door slam closed, I let out the pained scream I had been holding in the back of my throat.
I just lost my little sister and I knew it.
My tears streamed down my trembling face as I looked around the room I knew I wouldn't be coming back into for a while, at least not until I got her back.
My eyes suddenly looked over at the draw Katie had left open and walked slowly over to it.
Just when I was ready to close it, I caught sight of a picture placed near the back of the small draw.
It was of Katie and my Dad as they arrived back at London only a few days ago.
But how the hell did it get in hear?
I flipped it over to see a small and messy sentence scribbled on it.
'Very soon babe - Vinny x'
"SHIT!" My voice was the loudest I think I've ever heard it as the realization hit me.
I had just willingly pushed my baby sister into the arms of a psychopath.
I'm so sorry it took so long! Uni has been biting me in the ass lately!
And truthfully I had lost my inspiration for this story for a while, I don't know if it's because it's nearly done or what...
