Love Behind Bars

∞Four∞

While being led down the hall, Adela didn't know what to think. So much had happened in so little time, and she already had a visitor?

Adela thought it would be her mother, or her old best friend Alyssa. Alyssa was an amazing girl in Adela's eyes. She was always so happy and full of life. She was the person you would got to so she could cheer you up. She was extremy popular and loved by everyone. She was also drop dead beautiful. With crazy, long tan hair, and stunning blue gray eyes. Adela missed her like crazy.

Walking down the halls, Adela wondered how all the guards didn't get lost. The whole place was a labyrinth of twists and turns and steel doors.

"I sometimes get lost here." Officer Murphy says. "So many hallways." He chuckled.

Adela tried to laugh back, but it came out dry and like a croak. This place was affecting her so much it wasn't even allowing her to laugh.

They finally came to a steel door labeled visitor chamber. Adela hated the name, making it sound like a laboratory for animals; which she also despised.

They walked past many girls, who had families, friends, or ransoms on the other side of the glass. Some of the girls looked like they didn't belong, others looked like monsters. Adela hated judging people based on appearance, she believed everyone deserved a chance. But these girls put her on edge.

Adela kept her head down as she came to the end of the endless row. She didn't want to see the eyes of the visitor awaiting her. She was worried that it would be the dull green eyes of her mother. She was hopeful for the blue gray eyes of Alyssa. And was painfully awaiting the piercing green eyes of Harry.

She sat in the plastic chair, trying not to make a sound. She reached for the phone on the right side of the cubicle. She held it to her ear, and finally looked up. She was partly happy, but partly said to see her mothers face. Looking worried as ever.

"How's my baby?" Her mother whispered trying to hold back tears.

"Depressed, worried, and homesick, but okay." Adela answered. Her mothers face fell.

Trisha couldn't believe What was happening to her daughter. She knew Adela would never want harm on anyone, and trusted her. She wanted to refuse to believe what Adela did was a misunderstanding, but she knew it was reality.

Adela and her mother talked about meaningless things, trying to avoid the elephant in the room. They both knew the topic of conversation would eventually arise, but they wished it never would.

"Adela." Her mother pleaded.

"Yes." Adela squeaked.

"Honey, you know what you did was wrong right?" Trisha asks.

"Yes." Adela says.

"I just want you to know, I will always love you." Her mother whispers. Adela says nothing in response.

"Why though? Why would you-"

"Time to go Adela." Officer Murphy interrupted what Adela's mother was about to say.

"Mom, I love you." Adela slightly smiles.

"I'll get you out." Her mother promises with her eyes.

Adela then placed the phone Down. She was lead my officer Murphy to the steel door.

She took a quick glance over her shoulder, to see her mother with her head in her hands. Trying to contain her uncontrollable sobs.

Harry walked around his abandoned house. Noticing every detail and every crack. Everything he saw brought back so many painful memories. Along with a few good ones. He saw a few smashed beer bottles scattered about. Leaving a trail from the kitchen to the front porch.

Harry followed it out to the driveway. He saw faint tire marks at the end of the driveway from the car pulling in to fast. He saw some blood on the ground. He was unsure if it was his, Adela's, or his fathers. But he didn't really want to knwo.

He saw the police tape lining the perimeter of the house. Harry knew all too well he wasn't supposed to be here. That his old house was a crime scene. Every moment he spent here, he could be destroying evidence. But harry just wanted closure.

He could still barely comprehend what was going on around him. Minutes seemed like hours, hours seemed like days. He was trapped with his thoughts and was about to go mad. He doesn't know if he can take much more.

But either way, he knows the police will escort him hot when they find him. So, he steps back into the abandoned house. Walks to his room, and picks up Adela's beat up pajama shirt. He slides into his bed, being welcomed by the covers.

He eventually cries himself to sleep, soaking the shirt with his tears.
