Tip: How To A Good FanFiction
1
Always use punctuation. This may seem like something that just your teachers say or would have said at school, but it's 100 percent true. When reading someone's fanfiction, there is nothing more annoying than misuse of punctuation. It almost makes it harder to read, and therefore not a good fanfiction.
2
Keep the topic interesting. If you are on one aspect of the story and are still talking about it by the end of the chapter, you may have your reader lost or bored. If you however want to stick to one part of your story for your whole chapter, then make sure it is interesting enough to fill the page.
3
Dont change tenses too often. If you change from 1st person to 3rd person without letting the reader know with a subheading, e.g 'Amys P.O.V' they may become confused. Switching tenses can also be hard after writing in one tense for a while, so make sure you know what you're writing.
4
Get to know your characters. If one of your characters has a particular phrase that they say often, be sure to include it. This will help your reader be able to relate to the characters more. When I am reading a fanfiction, I like to be able to automatically know who the character is before the author says their name. You could make this a challenge for yourself when writing!
5
Don't give the story away, especially if you are writing about mysteries. You should drop subtle hints, but never blocks of writing.
6
Make the reader use their imagination. Instead of saying something like 'I sat on the chair', you could write 'the old wood creaked as I planted myself on the dusty chair'. But whatever you do, don't go too far on the detailing either.
7
Be sure to write a good description of the story, even if it's only a couple of sentences long. No reader would want to read a fiction that has nothing to do with what they were looking for. For example, if you were writing about 'Doctor Who', be sure to include the characters names, e.g. 'Amy Pond' or 'Rose Tyler' or 'The Doctor".
8
Stick to the rules of the site you're writing on. It's horrible if you get banned from not sticking to the rules. Some sites don't like it if you use real people's names, so be careful what you are writing about.
9
Be specific. When tagging your story, or adding characters, make sure you don't tag/add people or things that don't or won't appear in your story.
