Spies Of Oak Hills ~Completed~

Chapter 49

Ariella’s POV:

“Father, how?” I asked. He was about to speak but Walter snapped his fingers, making the two men that stood behind him place duct tape across his mouth, which didn’t allow him to answer my question. I sighed.

“Yes, a family reunion. How sweet.” Walter said, clasping his large hands together. He exhaled.
“Alright, sweet moment over. Let’s get down to business, shall we?” He said, standing in between my father and I, with a smirk across his face. He turns to me, having his back to my father.

“Now child, dearest Ariella.” He swoons. I roll my eyes. “I think it is time that we start from the pinned discussion from earlier, don’t you think?” He motions his hands in the air, as if removing a pin. “There. Now, where were we, oh yes, I remember.”

He walked away from my father and me, which gave me the chance to have a closer look at his features. Bruises were forming around his face, dry blood was on his chin, either from a cut on his chin, his lip is cut, or he coughed up blood. The same blood that runs in my veins. The only other survivor in the family with the same blood. I can only imagine what his lips must look like. Busted, bruised, purple. He had a black eye on his right eye, and it was closed. Blood slowly trickled out of his nose, yet, he had a strong face. Once he caught me staring, his face expression softened, you could tell in his eyes… Or eye. My focus was snapped out as Walter began to speak.

“I think you were piecing everything together. You found out my hatred for your father…” he said, walking over to my father, and punching him across the face. He groaned in pain.

“Don’t hurt him!!!” I yelled. He only smirked at me. My father looked at me, shaking his head, as if pleading. I stayed quiet, but my fists began to clench.

“My love for your dead mother. I never meant to kill her, but she never corresponded with me, so I gave up on her.” That must have been news to my father because he snapped his head at Walter, trying to break free. The duct tape holding back any words from my father’s mouth. The more he struggled in his spot, the tighter the rope became. Eventually, my father gave up, and I swear I saw a tear from his untouched eye, which only brought a tear to my eyes.

“You must know about the love Mrs. Edwards…” He growled. “Had for this fool.” He said, slapping my father in the face, now creating another bruise to his collection on his face. I winced as the sound echoed in the room.

“I said, don’t hurt him.” I growled. Walter just smiled at me.

“So, did you piece it all together yet?” he asked me, coming close into my face.

“Black Cove is an all-boys facility, how can Mrs. Edwards be involved with any of this?” I asked him.

“Alright, I will explain…” he sighed. He walked over to the wall and leaned on it. “It all started back in my days of University, where I was going to ask the girl of my dreams out on a date.” My dad began to laugh. “Anyways… I was in my apartment one morning, getting ready for school…”

Walter’s POV:

Flashback:

I was checking myself in the mirror of my apartment one last time, making sure I looked presentable. I grabbed my keys and my wallet, stuffed them into my jacket pockets, placing my hat on, and walked right out the door, into my car, and driving to the university. Today is a very special day, where I get to ask the girl of my dreams on a date. Everyone knew that this was going to happen, and wished me the best of luck. As I pulled into the highway, I began to smile to myself, the anxiousness building up inside of me.

What if she says no?

But what if she says yes?

Where will we go?

Will we split the bill at the restaurant? No. I will pay for it all.

We will sit at the best table, at the best restaurant in town, she will be wearing her best dress, and I will wear my fanciest coat. We will share spaghetti, and eat a single strand, everything will be perfect. I pulled up to the school, and walked my way to the football field, where the cheerleaders began their early practices and warm ups at the side lines. The football players were on the field, practicing as usual. I walked over to the group of girls, each one turning to look at me, smiles appearing on their faces.

“Morning Walter…” one of them said, waving at me. I sent her a smile and she swooned, making the rest of the girls turn around, until I saw my beauty. She had her long, straight, soft, brown hair in a ponytail, swaying side to side as she turned around. Her brown eyes met mine and I felt a spark go right through my spine.

“Hey, Walter, what are you doing here? Last time I checked, you weren’t a cheerleader.” She said, smiling that glorious smile, while crossing her arms, the pom-poms still in her small petite hands. She cocked one hip to the side, as she looked up to me. I had to look away, while a smile formed on my face. She always had a great sense of humor. We have been friends for a long time but I think that now is a time to step it up.

“I know, I just wanted to come by and say hello, that’s all.” I said. “I was going to ask you something, but, if you don’t want me here…” I shrugged, turning, and walking away.

“Walter. What is it?” she said, her voice stopping me in my tracks. I smirked to myself as I
turned around. A whistle cut through the air as the coach of the football team called a break, and the football players scattered around the field. I walked back to the group of girls slowly, taking my time.

Big mistake.

A football player came over to us, sweaty. My face cringed at the horrible body odor, yet none of the girls around him seemed to care. I tried to ignore him the best I could, but more of them walked over as well. The stench intensified. One of the football players that came in a group walked over to my sweetheart. He hugged her and I watched with pain as she hugged him back. He whispered something into her ear, causing her to smile and slightly blush. That should be me.

She squealed in her spot and began to jump in place, clapping her hands together. “Yes, of course, yes!” She said, hugging him once more.

“So, I’ll pick you up at 7?” He asked her. She nodded happily. Oh, he did not. I read the name on his jersey that read MARTINEZ. I walked over to her directly.

“Oh, hey Walter. What was it that you wanted to ask me?” she asked me, as Mr. Martinez here wrapped his arms around her small waist. I was about to speak until a whistle sound pierced in the air, followed by the coach yelling ‘Break time over, let’s get to work!’ The sweaty men that surrounded the ladies groaned, but proceeded to do as they were commanded by getting up and walking back on the field. Martinez released her and made her face him.

“See you at 7.” He said to her smirking. He cupped her cheeks and placed a delicate kiss on her forehead, causing her to sigh. He released her and jogged back to the field, anger building up inside me. I began to chase him, ignoring the calls from her or any of the other cheerleaders. He must have heard my feet, because he turned around. He became wide eyed and quickly moved out of the way, tripping me as he moved. I tried to regain balance but it was no use. I fell onto the table that held Gatorade and water bottles, splashing everywhere. I heard laughter everywhere. I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to regain my breath. Once I re-opened them, there stood my sweetheart.

“Walter, why were you chasing my boyfriend?” she asked me frantically. Boyfriend…?

“Boyfriend…?” I asked. She nodded her head. “How long?”

“Walter, I told you already. Months ago. Did you tune me out?” she said, crossing her arms.

“No. But, why him?” I asked, sitting up.

“He’s a very sweet guy.” She shrugged.

“I can be sweeter.” I mumbled.

“What?” She asked.

“I said, I can be sweeter! He doesn’t deserve you, I do! I knew you longer, we were best friends!” I exclaimed.

“’Were’?” She asked. I nodded my head.

“Hey, what’s going on here?” Martinez came back, holding her, as tears formed in her eyes.

“Nothing. Just someone who can’t stand me being happy with someone else.” She said. She stood up and walked away. Martinez called out for her, but she didn’t turn back. He chased after her. What a dick.

“When he breaks your heart, don’t come crying to me, sweet cheeks!” I yelled as I stood up. She just lifted a finger in the air. Martinez turned around, doing the same thing as her, as if I didn’t get the message, then continued his pursuit after her.

I walked back to my car, never turning back. A different female voice called out to me, but I still walked. When I got to my car, she hopped in as well. I didn’t bother kick her out, so I pulled out of the school and drove away, listening to her talk. As I drove, I realized how much of an ass I must have been, as she continued nonstop. She told me how she was in my situation, with Martinez, and ended up upset, but didn’t want to lose her friendship with the other girls so she stayed silent.

“So, what’s your name?” I finally asked her as we pulled up at her apartment. She gave me the directions to her place as I drove. We also got to know each other. She seems pretty cool now that I know her better.

“Cathy.” She responded. I nodded.

“Walter.” She stuck her hand out, and I took it, shaking it as we laughed.

End Of Flashback

Ariella’s POV:

“I got to know Cathy better, and we became good friends. I tried sending letters to your mother, saying how sorry I was, but never got one in response. Eventually, I asked Cathy out, she said yes, years later, I asked her to marry me, she said yes, and we lived like that for a while.” He finished. My eyes widened.

“So… You are…” I stuttered.

“Ariella, I am your adoptive father. When Cathy agreed, to take care of you, she thought that she could brainwash you so that we could be your parents. Cathy cannot make children, if you know what I mean. That’s another reason why we are separated.” He answered for me.

“So, your last name is-“

“Edwards, yes.” He said, cutting me off.

“You two are separated, as in divorced right?” I asked. The door immediately swung open, after keys were heard.

“No, Ariella. We are still together.” Mrs. Edwards came barging in a rush. I am now confused.

“But, what about-“I started but she cut me off.

“Sorry I am late. The sub replacement decided to take forever to come to the building. I came as quick as I could.” She said, walking over to Walter, placing a kiss on his lips. I cringed at the sight. She then faced me, wide eyed, as if saying why I would be speaking right now. I smirked, knowing that this is a secret admirer.

“What was that, Ariella?” Walter asked me. I looked o my dad and as if he could read my mind, his face expression read mine.

“So how’s-“I said, but Mrs. Edwards placed her hand over my mouth, not letting me speak.

“Enough chit-chat. Let’s get down to what we came here for, hmm?” She said, smiling. Walter looked confused, but smiled anyways. He walked over to the table and grabbed the whip, and walked back to us.

“Let us begin.”
