The Story of My Life

"Everybody get into the frecking car!!!" I shout as three boys and Selena bustle about. My heart is going at more than a million per minute, so fast that I may or may not have a heart attack at this moment. I honk furiously, worry getting the better of me. I hear Louis screaming at everyone as Zayn and Harry carry a bajillion things. Selena is running with her black pumps towards the car. She opens the door and I find her sitting next to me.

"Is it fine if I ride here?" She asks.

"Well, at this point, I don't think Louis would care where he's sitting."

"But he usually sits here?"

"Yeah." At that moment, three rowdy boys pile into the back seat with the cooler, lots of food and lots of clothes.

"WE HAVE TO GO NOW!!!" Louis shouts into my ear.

"Is everybody here?! I shout back.

"YES NOW DRIVE UNLESS YOU WANT LIAM TO DIE ALONE!!!"

"NO!!!" I scream, pressing hard on the gas peddle. "OUT OF THE WAY CARS!!!" I scream, honking and swerving furiously.

15 minutes later...

My adrenaline rush takes us to the hospital faster than usual. I stop the car, oblivious that it is in the middle of the driveway and run up the stairs, into the front lobby and into the emergency room.

"Has the ambulance arrived yet?" I ask the nurse at the desk.

"Yes."

"OH NANDO'S WHERE DID THEY BRING THE PERSON IN THE AMBULANCE???"

"One of the ICU units, I guess. Seemed like he was injured badly."

"To the ICU unit!!!" I scream. I run up several flights of stairs until I reach the ICU unit. I scan the doors carefully, searching for the familiar name. None of the rooms hold him, but as I turn a corner into the operation unit, I see two doctors wheeling his hospital bed out.

"Homimacaroniandcheeze!!!" I scream. "LIAM!!!" I run in front of the doctors.

"Excuse us, sir." The tall, blonde guy says.

"Where are you taking him?"

"To his room, of course. The poor lad's just come out of surgery." The curvy, dark skinned woman seems more light mannered and positive.

"Is he dead?"

"He is anything but dead." She flashes me a smile.

"Can I see him?"

"Once we reach his room!" The blonde guy commands.

I follow them silently to an empty room. I keep my distance from the bed until the doctors have left.

"Liam..." I say softly to the sleeping figure on the bed. "Don't you dare leave now. The boys and I need you." I don't try to touch him, as I am unsure which part hurts and to what extent his pain is. I glance at the monitor which is still beeping steadily. Liam moves about in the hospital bed, mumbling in his sleep.

"Niall..."

"Liam?"

"Niall..." He moves his arm, seeming to search for something. "Where are you Niall?"

I grasp his hand. "I'm here, Liam, I'm here."

"Niall..." His voice is nearly a whisper. "Stay with me..." It's as if he is actually aware of my presence.

"I'm not going anywhere," I assure him.

He smiles and his chocolate brown eyes open. "Good... That's good."

"Oh Nando's, you're awake!" I smile hugely.

"Yeah, I'm awake." He looks around the room. "Where's..." His expression suddenly changes, he now seems worried. My phone rings loudly. I answer it.

"Hello?" I ask the unknown number.

"Hi Niall, it's me, Selena. Louis is going ballistic because he can't find you. Where are you?"

"With Liam, in room... I don't know."

"Which unit?"

"ICU."

"Okay then. Be there in a few!" Selena hangs up.

"That was..." Liam looks up at me.

"Selena." I finish his sentence for him.

"Oh..." He seems confused. "Sel... Selena..."

"I-I love you like a love song baby." I sing, jokingly. Liam laughs.

"Wasn't she the Irish lass in our room?"

"She was." I smile.

"Is she with the others?"

"Yeah."

"Don't leave..."

"I won't."

"I'm... scared."

"I'm here for you." I squeeze his hand.

"You're here for me." He smiles and closes his eyes for a minute or two. I hear shouting and a lot of cursing on the other end of the door. Liam's eyes flutter open.

"WHERE THE HELL IS LIAM'S ROOM?!" Louis is on all caps now.

Harry lets out several cuss words.

"Let's try this door!" Zayn says. The door opens. I whirl around, still managing to hold Liam's hand. Louis' face explodes into a huge grin.

"NIALLER!!!" He runs towards me and Liam lets go of my hand. I hug Louis, who will not let me go until Harry and Zayn rush past him and to the side of Liam's bed. Louis then lets go of me and rushes to be beside Zayn and Harry. I stick my hands in my pockets as I find Selena next to me. Liam looks around at everyone. A silence has filled the room.

"Hi everyone..." Liam says, a tad bit louder than earlier.

"Liam, oh thank God you're alive!" Harry exclaims.

"OHMIGASH LIAM, THANKS A BUNDLE FOR SAVING MY ASS THERE, HONESTLY I OWE YOU MY LIFE!!!" Louis is crying tears of happiness now.

"Don't..." Liam reaches up to touch Louis' face. I look down at the hand that reaches up. Unlike the one that was intertwined in mine, it was heavily bandaged. Harry seems to be upset now. Liam lets out a small sound of worry, upon seeing Harry's face.

"Not... you t-too..." He is beginning to stutter. Harry covers his mouth.

"I'm sorry Liam, I can't help it. Seeing you like this, it triggers something in me."

"Don't..." Liam is crying too. "It makes me feel... s-s..." He closes his eyes. I pat his hand gently.

"Shh..." I say quietly. "Shh... I know everything's not okay right now, but it will be... It will be." I may seem like the strong one, but really, I'm doing all I can to keep from breaking down. Selena and Zayn are silent, though there is no doubt that they feel Liam's pain. This accident, though it only happened to one person, is taking it's toll on everyone. If this is how everyone's acting when Liam's not even dead, well, I don't want to think about what would have happened if he died right then and there! Right now, all I can think about is how close Liam was to being dead. But he isn't dead, he isn't!
