Dreaming about London

The Last Supper

When we got back from the store the boys were almost done packing all their stuff to leave the next day. It made me a bit sad to see all the suitcases standing in the hallway.

“You guys,” I began when Eleanor and I got in to the kitchen with our bags of food, “all those suitcases make me feel so sad.”

“Aw,” Harry said while wrapping an arm around my shoulders. “You look like one who could use a bit of da Wonder-boy!”

Just his comment was enough to brighten my mood by ten times, but I nodded and pouted my mouth anyway. Harry danced in to the living room doing some of his terrible moves on the way and I laughed just as Louis walked in to help us unpacking the food. He pecked Eleanor on her cheek and at that moment I couldn’t help but think about our conversation earlier.

“Anything I can help with?” he asked me.

“Yes, you can chop up the turkey bacon,” I said and handed him the package. Stevie Wonder’s Sir Duke floated out of the living room and Harry came dancing in to the kitchen the same way he’d left it before.

“May I help as well?” he asked and I just handed him some vegetables for a salad that I was going to do as well. As we stood there chopping side by side I said to him silently: “Hey, thanks for helping Niall with dinner yesterday. I’ve seen him in a kitchen, not a pretty sight.”

Harry laughed. “No problem. I just felt so sorry for him when he stood here and looked so helpless holding a red pepper up against the light.” Now it was my turn to laugh. “It was some really good fajitas,” I said.

Liam walked around looking completely confused, so I asked: “Are you looking for something, Liam?”

“What?” he asked suddenly noticing my presence. “Uhm… no.” Bu he kept walking back and forth with a concerned frown on his forehead and rubbing his hair.

“Is something wrong?” Eleanor asked him and now it was her turn to look rather concerned.

He didn’t answer, so Harry gave Louis a nod. “Liam, can you help me out here?” Louis quickly said and walked towards the hall. Liam followed.

“He’s probably nervous about Em,” Harry said when he saw the confused looks on me and Eleanor’s faces.

“Poor boy,” I replied. “Has it been like that with Danielle and Sophie?”

“A little bit,” Harry answered. “Not as bad though, we’ve never had to talk about it with him.”

I couldn’t help but take a ton of pleasure in the whole situation, knowing that Em would be as nervous as Liam, at least now they were in the same boat.

“Maja, when did the girls say they would be here?” Louis suddenly shouted from the hall.

“Uhm… in half an hour,” I yelled back.

And so they did half an hour later. Em had her hair in a tall ponytail and wore a sleeveless grey loose dress with a thin black belt in the waist. Aida had put on some black shorts along with her favorite Michael Jackson-t-shirt that she’d bought in New York a couple of years ago, when she was staying there for a while.

I gave each of them a French kiss before leading the way in to the living room where dinner was ready.

“I can see you spent the night here?” Aida mumbled when she saw the same dress as I wore yesterday while pushing me with her elbow. I looked down smiling and continuing to walk against the dining table.

This time Zayn had had the privilege to choose the pink napkins, and he’d gone all the way, using pink candles and pink balloons.

“Wow, it looks like a child’s birthday in here!” Aida exclaimed when she saw the table.

“Do you think Perrie will like it?” Zayn asked with his cute, insecure attitude and we all nodded smiling at his attempt to please her.

“Hi Em,” Liam said coming through the door to the kitchen. Em smiled widely when she saw him and said: “Hi Liam.”

“Okay, forget about me,” Aida said laughing.

“Oh sorry!” Liam said, once he’d hugged Em, and then headed towards Aida.

We all sat down to eat the delicious smelling food. I sat next to Niall and he lightly brushed my thigh under the table.

“Man, this is good!” he said when he’d had the first taste and we all nodded agreeing. This time it was Louis who proposed a toast.

“To Denmark, to beers, to hangovers, to some absolutely lovely weeks and most of all a toast to our new friends. I think I’m not the only one that is very happy that you three are moving to London, so if maybe we can get some time off from the studio we can get together and have more evenings like this.”

We all raised our glasses and I couldn’t help but feel incredibly touched by Louis’ words.

We ate, we drank, we talked and we laughed. I was feeling happy, especially when Niall put his hand on mine on the table. Of course Harry had to smile a little too widely at me when he saw it.

I noticed that Aida acted the exact same way as him when I looked at her.

But whether we liked it or not, there soon became a time where Aida, Em and I had to leave and the boys had to go to bed to be ready for tomorrow. I hugged them all tightly, especially Harry, Eleanor and Perrie. I felt that those three had quickly become very close to me, some extremely good friends, who I couldn’t wait to be spending some time with in London. I also noticed a relatively long hug happening between Harry and Aida, who had turned her back at me. I winked at Harry behind her back and he smiled.

I saved Niall till the end, as so did Em with Liam. Niall and I went for a walk in to the backyard hand in hand.

When we were out of sight I turned towards him.

“I’m going to miss you a lot,” I said while having to swallow to prevent myself from start crying.

“I’m going to miss you too,” he said and pulled me in for a tight hug. We stood like that for a long time, me snuggled in to his chest with his big arms around my shoulders, until he raised my chin with his hand to kiss me. I felt his hands holding on to my neck, before feeling them around my back again. Then we stood like that for another while, just kissing and hugging. No interest in anything else than that perfect kiss.

It felt like we held on to each other to embrace as much of each other as possible, before it would end. He pulled back and we stood with our foreheads pressed against each other and I looked up at him.

“It’s only one and a half months…” I tried to lighten the situation, which was never hard with Niall, cause then he just said: “51 days.” We both chuckled. I couldn’t be more grateful for him being the way he was, he was actually I needed, and had needed for the past many years.

He kissed my forehead before we headed back towards the others. The girls and I started walking away and at the corner I turned to face them, and especially Niall, one last time. They were all smiling and waving and so did we.

“What a great way to end our summer in Denmark,” I said and they both nodded.

“So how did it go with your goodbye make out-session with Niall?” Aida said teasingly.

Sometimes I just really wanted to slap her, but I resisted and just said: “Fine. He’s a fantastic guy, incredibly easy to be around. I’m so glad I met him.”

“I think we’re the ones who are most glad that you met him!” she then corrected me and I smiled.

“What about you and Liam, Em?” I asked her.

“You know, all that stuff we used to read about One Direction and that Liam was supposed to be the sensible one, right?” she said smiling and Aida and I both nodded probably looking a bit confused. “Well that’s absolutely true - he cried a bit.”

I put my hands up in front of my mouth. “Really?”

“Yeah, he did cry a bit. But you know, we don’t know if he’s the right one for me, I mean maybe this is an expression of him being a bit sticky as a boyfriend, so maybe I should think it through…” she began probably thinking that we would think he was some sort of gay psycho, but Aida cut her off:

“Oh my God, that is SO adorable!”

“Is he cute or what?!” I exclaimed right after. Em looked very relieved, she needed our approval before knowing what to think about stuff like a boy crying after only a few days.

That’s the thing about friends you know…

“And what about Niall?” Em then asked me.

“Yeah, how was he in bed?” Aida asked curiously and this time I couldn’t resist and I hit her on her shoulder.

“We didn’t sleep together,” I said.

“What the fuck? Are you kidding me?” they both burst out at the same time. “But…” Em continued, “You always seem to sleep with them pretty quickly?”

“And look where that has got me!” I said laughing a bit. “Look it’s just… he’s the first guy in an extremely long time that I felt I could really… be with. In fact I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way about any guy. He’s just so easy going and simple and giving, and I feel so great around him – every concern that I may have, and God knows I can have a lot, they disappear the second I get to look in to his beautiful eyes."

Right then I noticed that I probably was talking more to myself than to them and they smiled at my behavior.

“You like him, don’t you?” Aida asked and I nodded.

“Huh…” she sighed and put an arm around me and Em as we walked, “you kids today…”

We laughed.

We all decided to get together for lunch at the coffee shop the following day to start planning everything for London.

Right before I went to bed I texted Niall: “When I lay alone in bed now I just realize that maybe 51 days won’t be as short as I’d hoped.”

He answered right away: “No, I feel the same way. But you’re a Running Egg worth waiting 51 days for.”

What a charmer. “You’re an Irish white ass worth travelling to London for,” I wrote back.

“Oh well that’s nice.”

I laughed at his respond and then answered: “Going to sleep now. I’ll see you soon! Xx”

“Let it be very soon! Sleep tight. Xx”

But I couldn’t sleep. I kept thinking about Niall and his wonderful person that I would be missing every day from now and until I would feel his arms around me again. And I was also really excited to start planning my new life in London, I couldn’t wait to be bringing myself a step closer to that city, closer to Niall.

So I slept until 1 o’clock the next the day, where I suddenly had to hurry for the first time the entire summer, cause I’d promised the girls to meet them at half past 1. I quickly put on a pair of high waisted denim shorts and a sleeveless Jack Daniel’s t-shirt with my white plateau shoes, threw some water in my face and added some mascara. I grabbed my wallet and sunglasses on the way out.

Just as last time both Aida and Em had arrived and sat outside when I came running.

“Sorry I’m late, I overslept!” I said gasping for air.

“How long did you stay up?” Aida asked with a frown on her forehead.

“I don’t know, I couldn’t sleep last night,” I answered as I was about to wave Christian out here.

“It’s okay, we’ve already ordered,” Em said while correcting her short white shirt with black stripes that revealed a tiny bit of her flat stomach before the denim shorts.

“Do you have a spare one?” Aida asked as I lid up a cigarette and I handed her the packet of Blue Kings. She was wearing a pair of shorts with horizontal stripes and a plain black top that she’d tugged in to them.

“Well, hello there Maja!” Christian said as he came out and put down the wine on the table. “You know, I get off at 5, want to go for a walk then?” he suddenly asked, and I became a bit frightened by his question, especially because I had to make up an excuse not to.

“Uhm… I’m sorry, Christian, but I… I have to go to work at 4,” was the best thing I managed to make up in those few seconds.

“Oh okay, well you have my number if you are free some time,” he said while smiling his flirtatious smile on the way inside.

Having spent time with someone special to me, as Niall had got, it seemed completely outrageous to talk to another guy, and especially a guy like Christian. I could feel the girls smirking at me, so I quickly changed the subject by pulling out my phone saying:

“So girls, I’ve made some notes on what we need to get done before we move and I thought that maybe we could distribute the different things in between, cause there’s quite a lot and probably a thousand more than we know now.”

They both nodded still looking a bit confused because of my immediate change of subject.

“I can do the researching on jobs for us,” Em said.

“Then I’ll do the credit cards, or whatever they’re using,” Aida then said.

“Sounds great girls, then I’ll figure out how to get our things from the airport to the apartment,” I added.

We all couldn’t help but smile foolish at each other, cause in this exact moment we had all taken one of the first big steps, apart from the apartment, towards making a life for us in a different country. A different city.

A city called London.
