Envy (Niall Horan) [BOOK 1]

SOFYS POV
It's been four months since that blonde kid left. I don't really understand why Eli is doing this to herself. I know she cares about him, but she's going overboard. I'm afraid for her. She's getting skinnier and weaker looking every day. She almost looks like a Halloween decoration.
It's getting to the point where I have to ask her to try everything I cook just so she can have some food in her stomach. That's not even enough though. She usually stops me and tells me how she has to get back to work. That's another thing...I've never seen someone more overworked than her. Sam needed more vacation time to be with his new baby, so now she has to do room service longer.
After all her jobs for the day she would go to the cleaning supply storage at the back of the hotel in order to talk to Niall. She sometimes would fall asleep in there and I couldn't take it anymore, so I told her that I wouldn't mind if she talked in our room. Even though I usually have to sleep with headphones to block out there talking, I don't mind. I wasn't going to allow her to sleep on a cold floor again.
Eli reminds me of my younger sister Ana back home. Ana is around Eli's age and I don't know.... I see Ana in Eli. I guess that's why I'm so protective of her. I'm obviously not doing a good job though.
Eli is talking to Niall even more because "He wants to make more of an effort to keep their friendship strong." Eli's words not mine. I roll my eyes every time I hear his name. I'm happy that Eli has someone she's so close to, especially after what she's been through; but I feel that he's too oblivious. How does he not notice her almost faint exhausted voice or even the time difference? He doesn't care as much as Eli does. He obviously doesn't realize either.
I mean seriously! She's working about a million jobs in the hotel just so she can be able to afford international calling and her phone bills. I always see how stressed she looks when it comes to money so I told Steve (the manager) to give her some of my paycheck. I earn a good amount of money. Especially with the low rent I have to pay to live here. I have money I can spare.
I just hope Niall realizes what she's doing to herself and does what's best for her. Let her go. Even though it would break Eli's heart for her best friend to ignore her, her health is more important.
Right now I'm with James in a taxi heading back to the hotel after our date. James is my boyfriend of almost two years. He has light brown hair that is always gelled back in a very sophisticated way, dark green eyes that always sparkle when he smiles, tan skin, and the pinkest, plumpest, most kissable lips I have ever seen.
I guess he noticed how I was a bit down due to my worried thoughts about Eli and kisses my forehead. I turn to look at him and he rubs my cheeks with his thumbs lightly while looking straight into my eyes and says "Don't worry babe, she's going to be alright."
"I'm scared for her..."
"I know you are. She's lucky to have such a beautiful, amazing, perfect, caring-"
I can't help the heat that rises to my cheeks and interrupt him "Stop. Your making me blush."
"I won't stop until you realize how amazing you truly are." He replies with a soft smile.
"You can continue you know." I say while motioning him to go on.
He kisses my cheek with every word he continues to say.
"Gorgeous, smart, sexy-"
"We're here!" The taxi driver practically yells out.
"Do you want me to walk you out?" James asks.
"Nah it's late, go home and get some rest."
He nods and gives me a quick peck on the lips.
As I'm walking through the entrance of the hotel I check the time on my watch. It's 12:39 a.m.
It's a Saturday night or shall I say Sunday morning, so Eli doesn't have her late cleaning job today. She only cleans late at night on weekdays.
I decide to sneak something out of the kitchen to give to her. Maybe she will actually eat this time.
Ever since I told Eli how sick she looks and put her in front of the mirror, she thinks that whenever I get her food and such that I'm only doing it out of pity; so she doesn't take it.
When I open the room door I see Eli sitting on her bed reading a book. When she sees my face she puts her book down and says "Oh my gosh Sofy! You have to read this book it's so-"
She glares at the plate of fruit and toast I'm holding in my hand and quickly frowns.
"That better be for you." She comments with an annoyed look.
"Eli, why can't you just ea-"
"Don't!"
She puts her book right in front of her face again and begins to read, obviously trying to ignore me.
I put the plate of food on the coffee table and grab my towel, pajamas, and underwear.
"Gonna shower." I tell Eli.
She doesn't say anything and continues to read her book.
I sigh and head to the shower.
While in the shower I just think about my life and what I'm doing with it. I think I'm going to visit my family and Ana during my vacation. Maybe even introduce them to James, if he's willing to go with me that far.
When I'm done thinking I step out and dry myself. I slip into my undergarments and pajamas and wrap a towel around my damp hair. When I step outside the bathroom I see Eli on her phone. She has a smile plastered on her face. I look at the time on my alarm clock and see how it's 1:56 a.m. Woah, I didn't even realize I took that long of a shower.
I ease drop a little on her conversation while heading to my bed.
"Ni, don't worry you're going to do great."
I roll my eyes. Not him. I guess he woke up early today over there.
My heavy eyelids were about to drop until I started noticing Eli's constant stuttering.
"A-are y-you s-s-seriou-us?"
I sit up quickly and turn to her. She's blinking a lot; almost like she's having an eye twitch of some sort.
Now I'm afraid.
"Eli are you o- ELI!"
She collapsed on the floor.
