Breaking Fate

I stumble out of the hospital into the pouring rain, towards the waiting car. Harry sticks his head out the door to look at me as I climb in. “Hay,” he mutters. “Mommy,” Aiden squeals as he jumps into the front seat to hug me. “Hay Karina,” Nicholas says with a big smile. I can’t believe he still likes me after what happened. I shiver at the memory.

We pull up to my house and Harry parks the car on the curb. “You ok,” Harry asks as we walk through the front door. “Sure,” I respond. The boys quickly jet off to Aiden’s play room. I set my purse down on the counter and take a seat at the kitchen table. “Hay Karina,” Harry says quietly, “do you maybe want to…um…go out on a, you know…um…date…with, um me tonight?” Harry stutters. Now he’s got my full attention. “How could you even trust me or be interested in me after all that we’ve gone through. “Your kid was bleeding when you found me, he had to witness what Troy can do, and my past is just so plain messed up that I have no idea how you can like me!” I whisper shouted. Harry pulls me into his lap and rocks me back and forth as I finally let the tears that I’ve been holding back, spill. “I love you Karina, and nothing in the world can change that. You’re beautiful, smart, funny, caring, and I no one I have ever met, are all those things,” Harry finishes. I take one look at him and crash my lips onto his. We stay like that in a simple kiss for a few moments before I feel Harry’s tongue rubbing my bottom lip. I moan and he slips his tongue in. I gasp as I feel it roam my mouth. Then his hands travel from my lower back down to my bum. He pushes it up and with the new height, I lean over him and kiss him harder, grabbing onto his curls. “Mommy,” Aiden says. I swear I jumped a mile across the room. One second I was at the table, the next I was behind the island. “Daddy,” Nicholas says too. Harry’s still sitting there at the table, his hands in the exact same position that they were in before the boys walked in. “What was that,” the boys said at the same time. At that moment, my ability to lie on the spot kicked in and I said, “Daddy was just lifting me up so that I would see how dusty the chandelier was. We were just cleaning the kitchen and that was part of it,” I finish. They just shrug and grab some crackers and walk back into the play room. I walk over to Harry and he’s still frozen. I tap him and he shoots out of his chair, making me jump back. He looks at me before sighing and saying, “You never gave me my answer.” I smirk and grab a piece of scrap paper off the counter, I write my answer so he can’t see, and I turn around with it backwards. He holds out his hand thinking that I’m going to give it to him, but instead I fold it and stick it in my bra. Harry’s eyes widen to the size of kiwis. “You can have your answer when I want you too, or you can get it yourself.” Harrys turns bright red. “I would love to get it, but the boys are upstairs.” I smirk again and say, “that’s why you can’t.” Then he launches himself at me and tackles me onto the couch. He reaches in my bra and grabs the slip of paper. “Give it back,” I say as I jump up to grab it, but desperately fail. “No way,” Harry says as he starts to unfold it. “It’s so on.”
