Midnight Memories

The room was suddenly filled with silence, then the sound of the bathroom door closing. Several bathroom noises involving the toilet and the shower issued forth from the door. I turned my attention to the sleeping Zayn.

"Hi Zayn." I said quietly, gently caressing his perfect face. "I hope you're okay because I don't want to lose you like this." The monitor beeped a tad bit louder, as if he could actually hear me.

"If you go now, I'll never get to say good-bye." Suddenly, I felt his hand pull my hand away from his face. I looked at his face and gasped. His deep cocoa eyes were staring straight into my warm brown, blinking slowly every now and then. There was that emotion of worry in them, for what, I wasn't sure of.

"Oh you're awake." He gave a small smile, as if he agreed with me.

"I was so worried. You slept for like, forever." The bathroom door opened and next thing I knew, Harry was beside me.

"OMG, ZAYN, YOU'RE AWAKE!!!" He exclaimed, jumping up and down. "I SERIOUSLY THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD!!!" Zayn raised an eyebrow, as if to say, "Seriously?!"

"I think you owe Zayn an explanation, Harry," I said.

"I don't know... I feel like he's better off not knowing... He's been through so much." Harry started pacing around the room, going on and on about surgery, vocal chords and how the hell did management expect them to sing without two-fifths of One Direction? "Wait a sec, Harry, what do you mean by 'without two-fifth's of One Direction'?"

"Ask Zayn."

"What do you mean 'ask Zayn', you can talk, right?"

"Yeah, but my point is, see if he's gonna answer you."

Suddenly, I realized the true meaning of Harry's words. "You mean to say," I said, looking at Zayn."That you can't sing anymore?" Zayn nodded, touching his throat. Then he smiled, as if he was trying to tell me not to worry. I shook my head, unable to believe that this was really happening. "Oh fudge, this is terrible."
