Part of You
Zayn, the Bartender
We glared at him, not sure what to say. Perrie was the one to finally spoke.
‘’Ho-how to get this girl drunk!’’ She tapped my back.
‘’Well come with me, we’re going to have a good time together.’’ Zayn winked and dragged me in the kitchen, his arm around my shoulder. When I was no more stunned by how stupid Perrie was, I tossed away Zayn’s arm.
‘’I’m old enough to go wherever I want, thank you.’’ I said, a bit harsh.
‘’Woah, someone’s not drunk enough!’’
Why is everyone want me to get wasted? First, there’s Harry who brought me a shooter, then there’s Perrie saying a lame excuse to protect our plan. But that excuse needed to be about me? She could have thought of something else. Like…
Alright, I don’t know.
‘’Zayn, if I want to drink, I will, but not to be hangover the next day!’’
‘’Aah, come on! Live a little, Hailie! Let me at least concoct you a drink, one of my favorite!’' Zayn added.
Before I protested, Zayn began to search in the cupboards. When he found out where Perrie’s parents stocked their alcohol, he took one bottle out and placed it on the counter. Then, he returned searching for other ingredients for his drink.
‘’What you’re looking for?’’ I sighed.
‘’Now you are helpful with me?’’ Zayn chuckled.
‘’The sooner you’re done with your drink, the sooner I can get away from you.’’
‘’Ouch, that was harsh.’’ He mimicked someone hurt and placed his hand on his heart dramatically. I rolled my eyes and tried not to smile at his pathetic scene.
‘’Tell me before I change my mind.’’ I said.
‘’Salt, a hot sauce, Clamato, lemon juice and any kind of grapefruit soda.’’ Zayn listed.
‘’Salt: first cupboard at your right. Hot sauce… I’m not sure if Perrie has that. They are not big fan of spicy meals. You’ll find the Clamato and lemon juice in the fridge. For the grapefruit soda, I have no idea.’’
Zayn looked at me dumbfounded. ‘’How do you know all that? Are you living here?’’
‘’We can say that it’s my second house.’’ I laughed.
When the accident happened, Perrie invited me to spend the whole summer break with her and Eleanor. I was still lost and depressed by everything, and living here for two months calmed my agitated mind. However, no one was able to understand me, not even my own father. There are things my friends don’t know, and they will never. I’ve kept secrets to Niall too. Even if they are the three best things that ever happened to me, this part of me will always be close. Always.
‘’Are you alright?’’ Zayn snapped me out of my thoughts. ‘’My jacket won’t try to kill you.’’
‘’I-uh. Sorry, I was lost in my thoughts.’’ I smiled weakly.
‘’What thoughts?’’ He insisted.
‘’Are you going to prepare this drink or I’m wasting my time?’’
‘’Okay, dodge my questions for now. I’ll get my answers later.’’ He winked at me and started preparing my drink. He had gathered everything he needed plus a red plastic cup while a zoned out.
‘’Like you could understand me…’’ I whispered to myself.
‘’Maybe I could, if you let me.’’
I blushed a little, embarrassed he heard me. I waited until he was done preparing it.
‘’Okay, I need a final ingredient, and it’s the grapefruit soda, and it’s kind of important.’’ Zayn said, starching the back of his neck.
‘’Maybe someone brought one bottle.’’ I suggested.
He raised an eyebrow. ‘’It’s not the kind of thing people always have on them.’’
‘’I’m just trying to help here!’’ I chuckled.
‘’Does she have another fridge in her garage?’’ Zayn asked.
I nodded.
‘’Okay, stay here, I’ll go check see if she has grapefruit soda!’’ Zayn run out of the kitchen.
I smiled at his sudden excitement. I remembered in elementary school, he was always like that.
Don’t get to nostalgic here, Hailie. Where talking about Zayn.
Right. It’s Zayn.
After what must have been two or three minutes, Zayn came back with a bottle in his hand.
‘’Found it!’’ He said, grinning from ear to ear.
He uncapped the bottle and poured less than the half of in the red plastic cup who had already Clamato in it. He mixed it with tequila, a teaspoon of hot sauce, squeezed a quarter of a lemon and a pinch of salt. He stirred gently before pushing the beverage in front of me.
‘’Voilà.’’
I grabbed it firmly, not sure if it’s a good idea. It seemed to taste good, but maybe he put down poison in it, or drug.
‘’No, I didn’t.’’ Zayn answered my invisible question.
‘’You better, or I’ll kick your ass.’’ I said before bringing the cup to my lips.
He laughed and I let the liquid fell in my throat. Um, not bad.
‘’It’s called ‘Vampira’. I don’t know why, it’s doesn’t even look like blood!’’ Zayn explained.
I agreed: the color wasn’t even close to red. It was soft orange mixed with pink. I took another sip of it. I really enjoyed this drink!
‘’It’s good. Thank you, Zayn.’’
‘’Your welcome. I see you around the house.’’ Zayn said and left to talk with a bunch of guys.
