Stole My Heart

Niall's P.O.V.

I'm not going to lie, it made me a bit jealous the way that Luke held Laurel, the way he looked at her, the way she looked at him. I just stood there kind of awkwardly, watching them catch up.

"We should probably get back to work," Laurel announced, noticing that some people were entering the store.

"All right. What time are you done?" Luke asked.

"Five" Laurel stated, hopping behind the counter. She was soon joined by Heather and Sarah.

"So, in an hour?" Ashton asked Sarah.

"Yup," she replied glancing at the clock.

"Is there anything that I can do?" I asked Laurel.

"Liam!" he looked up as she called his name. "Did you finish putting those boxes away? It's fine if you haven't."

"No, there are still some out front. Sorry." he said shaking his head.

Then she turned to me and said, "You could help me take boxes to the back if you want."

"Sure," I replied as I followed her to the front.

"Can I help?" Luke asked coming up behind us .

"Um," Laurel said glancing at the remaining boxes, "I think that we can manage, there's only a couple left. But thank you for the offer."

"Oh, okay." Luke replied a bit dejectedly.

"Check with Sarah to see if there's anything that she needs." she said trying to comfort him.

I let out a sigh of relief as I watched Luke walk back into the store. It's not that I didn't like Luke, he was one my best friends. It's just that I wanted to talk to Laurel - alone.

"You coming?" she called over her shoulder before disappearing into the shop.

I quickly grabbed some boxes and followed her into the storage room. She had already started putting some away. I stared at her as she worked.

"What?" she asked looking over her shoulder for a second before proceeding with her work.

"Your hair," I said, admiring it's golden-looking shine, "Is it naturally straight?"

She stopped working and turned to me, "No, I straighten it. It's naturally wavy. Not like the way it was at the concert; I braided it then. It's frizzy and the waves are bigger. It's just... not pleasant to look at." she said before returning to her work.

I came up behind her, leaning over her shoulder and asked, "Could you just leave it like that? Don't straighten it or braid it or curl it."

"Why?" she asked.

"I don't know, I just want to know what it looks like. Please?" I replied. I was sure that it couldn't be that bad.

She shook her head. "Are you just going to stand there asking questions or are you actually going to help?" she asked, a hint of amusement in her voice.

"Fine." I stated, leaning down to pick up some boxes, but not before I saw a small smile spread across her face.

I helped her for a while before asking, "I know that I've already asked this, but just to make sure; do you like Luke?"

She sighed. "Niall, we've already been through this. Sure, he's a nice guy and really sweet and funny. Yes, both he and his accent are really cute. But no, I don't like him like that."

"Wait, you think that he's cute?" I asked. This was new.

"Yes, Niall, he is very cute. Probably the second cutest guy I've ever seen. But if it makes you feel any better, I think that you might be just a bit cuter, making you the first.. Now are you going to help me or not?" she asked smiling.

A smile spread across my face as I bent down to pick up a box - she thought that I was cute!
