Stole My Heart

"Right now?" I asked glancing out the window into the night. "It's passed 11:00."

"Yeah," Niall said shrugging, "Is that okay?"

I smiled and shook my head. "Just let me get my jacket."

I ran upstairs into my bedroom, grabbed my jacket, and ran back downstairs to put on my shoes.

Once I had finished Niall took my hand to help me up and asked, "Ready to go?"

"I think," I said looking around to see if I had forgotten anything. "Yeah," I responded nodding and opened the door.

It was a bit chilly out with the wind blowing and I pulled my coat tighter around me.

"Isn't it a beautiful night?" Niall asked looking up at the sky.

"It sure is, the moon and the stars are so bright that you can see just fine without a light." I replied.

Niall's P.O.V.

I looked over at Laurel with the wind blowing her hair all over and her eyes sparkling in the starlight. I held her hand tighter and smiled.

We walked together in happy silence when she said, "I'm sorry about my parents, well mainly my dad."

"What for?" I asked turning to her.

"For asking so many questions. He got like that when Holly brought a boy home. Not saying that you're my boyfriend or anything. He does that whenever she brought a friend home that was a guy. If that makes sense..." she said, her voice trailing off.

"Kind of." I replied laughing.

"So," Laurel said moving on, "did you have a good time?"

"Yeah, it was great." I said, trying to remember every detail.

We walked again in silence for a while before Laurel stopped walking completely, turned to me and asked, "When are you leaving?"

I could see sadness in her eyes as well as regret. I sighed and responded, "Tomorrow at 9:00."

Her eyes began to water and she tried to blink them away. Eventually she turned her head away from me so that I wouldn't see. I lifted her head up and took her other hand saying, "It's all right. Everything's going to be fine."

I held her just like I had on the tour bus last night, stroking her hair and whispering in her ear.

She pulled away wiping her eyes saying, "I'm sorry, I just don't want you to go. And I know it sounds silly but... I just don't."

"I don't want to leave you either." I said, brushing her bangs out of her face.

We started walking again after a while. Once again we were laughing. She was telling me stories about her family.

After a while I stopped her and said, " Laurel, there's something that's been bugging me these past few days."

"What is it?" she asked instantly, concern in her voice.

"Well, I was wondering... I uh, wanted to know... would you, maybe, like to go out with me?"

Her hand immediately flew to cover her mouth and she was standing there in complete shock.

"Niall, I... I ... I would love to..." my heart leapt inside of my chest. "But, I just can't." she finished. "It's not that I don't like you because, believe me, I do. It's just that I've only known you for what, two days? I can't go out with someone that I met two days ago."

"But you all ready know all about me." I said trying to make her see that it could work.

"I know about you, I don't actually know you personally. And you're going to be on tour for six months, and I won't see you until who knows when, not to mention you live in the U.K."

I think that my heart nearly broke. I had never felt this way about anyone before, but I did see the reason in what she was saying.

"All right," I said after a while, "I completely understand, I will wait as long as it takes for you though."

"Sounds good." she said back squeezing my hand. "We should probably be getting back. The others might be worried about us and if you have to leave at 9:00 tomorrow you'll have to get up early."
