The Last Goodbye

Almost Always

Victoria's POV

"Have a good afternoon." Niall said as I walked away. I didn't know what reaction I was looking for from him, something other than hello I guess. It was clear to me that Niall didn't know me from the next person. He showed no fascination in me and he wasn't being coy. To him I was just another face in the crowd and to me he was just a familiar faced stranger.

I didn't even pause, I just kept walking. I left the space where the signing was being held, but I walked in the speed rate of a zombie. Out of the windows I still saw a large amount of people still waiting to be let in. I'm surprised their voices hadn't strained from all the screaming and singing they did. Entering the lobby the building appeared to get even bigger. Security was almost at every door. People walked passed me wearing shirts with Niall Horan's face on it. Others held signs with his face plastered all over it. Everywhere I turned there he was his face, his name was everywhere.
I clutched the book Niall signed and I opened it to just to see his actually hand writing. He addressed it to me, but wrote more than just his name.

"To Victoria Chambers may you enjoy this
particular book. Most people often tend to
rush through stories eager to know ending,
but sometimes the beginning is the very
important part." -Niall H.

Reading that made me feel like everyone around me knew something that I didn't. I felt more than a little lost. I tried to remember the day spent with my grandmother that afternoon in the attic. I remembered going through old boxes and how she told stories of One Direction. The way she talked about them is now like listening to memories that couldn't have possibly belonged to her. Or when the mysterious bouquet of red tulips were sent to her house. The night of the Mavis Masquerade I asked Harry and he said he wasn't the one to send them. The only three people who knew where I was or my favorite flowers were my parents, and Christian. And my parents wouldn't have put a note with them saying from my secret admirer and Christian isn't the type to do romantic gestures. Question is who sent them and why? Niall was right I would rather just skip to the end.

"There you are." I heard him say. I turned around and I got that feeling again. My heartbeat slowed and I was completely breathless. I didn't allow myself to think I just moved towards him. Harry looked at me briefly like he didn't know how to respond.

"I thought that maybe you were gone." I said. Harry folded his arm around my shoulders and the other around my back. And I hugged him like he was mine to hold.

"Not without saying goodbye." Harry said. It just dawned on me that eventually at some point I will have to say it. "Good because I was just starting to like you." I smiled. Every few second I look around us to check to see if anyone had noticed us. We were standing in the middle of the floor and the two of us could've easily been seen.

"Did you get to see him?" Harry asked me.

"I did actually nothing happened." I said. He raised an eyebrow and looked confused."And he said nothing to you?" He asked.

"No he just signed the book and I left. Although he did write something in it." I passed the book to Harry. He opened it and read what Niall had wrote. After he read it he started flipping through the book turning the pages. He stopped turning them once he was at the front of the book on a particular page that was filled with collages of pictures.

"I'm pretty sure he knew who you were." He said. Harry handed me back the book. It took me few seconds to find what he was looking at. There were pages in the book dedicated to people Niall knew. Collages of different people filled a few pages. A lot of the faces I couldn't put names to. It was mostly group picture with him and the band. One of the pictures where of Niall and Harry onstage. And then there was a picture with only Niall, Harry, Zayn and me.

"This shouldn't shock me, but it does." I said not taking my eyes of the picture. Harry walked closer to me and pulled the book out of my hands. He breathed loudly and cursed into the air.

"There is something that I have been wanting to tell you every since the first day I saw you, but I couldn't. Then last night happened and the scars on your back made me feel even worst. But if lying to you was the price I had to pay for spending time with you and getting to know you all over again, I sear would do again. I was in love with the Victoria that never gave up on me. An I'm just as in love with this Victoria that hated to be near me. Trust me though I was more nervous to be around you then you were of me." He shyly smiled. "Cause honestly I'll be in love with whatever version of you always. However long it may be." His voice was deep but still soft.

Harry said it without saying it. "I wish I could remember you then. I like the idea that once upon time you were real." I laughed as I blinked away a tear. Harry reached down and laced his fingers with mine.

"Well doesn't this look familiar?" I heard a voice behind me say. The Irish accent was recognizable. I turned to face him, but not once did I let go of Harrys hand.

"Hello Chambers." Niall greeted me.
