I walked out of the room and into Liam's waiting arms, "Eager much?" I laughed.
"Just so insanely ready to get you up onto that ferris wheel, where you can't escape me," Liam whispered seductively. What was with him? I didn't care, I loved it.
"Can't wait," I said, standing on my toes to press my nose to his. We walked, hand in hand, to the car, where we were greeted by silence. Anticipation was thick in the air like fog, almost like you could take a knife and cut through it. I was going to deman explanations, although a little touchy feely wouldn't have been bad. But then I remembered, my abusive exboyfriend worked at this fair, this exact fair. I really really hoped he wouldn't be on tonight, but he probably would. That was the gut feeling I had had earlier, too late now. I prayed he wouldn't be there, and busied myself with regaining Liam's attention.
I softly traced designs on his hand, but he didn't seem to notice. So then I ran my hand up and down from his knee to mid-thigh. I could feel his leg contract as my hand slid slowly but surely up his jeans.
"And they wonder why I refer to you as my temptation," Liam talked about me? We finally got to the fair, and I instantly hopped out of the car and over to the cotton candy. I was addicted to the stuff, and Liam looked at me questioningly as I bought three bags of the stuff.
"Trust me," I giggled, sugar high already kicking in.
I practically dragged him to the ferris wheel and sat down. As the ride started, his fingers slowly started to play with my hair. When we got down, Liam's phone rang.
"Will you wait here?" he asked.
"Yeah, trust me," I said and sat down at an empty booth. After politely refusing a chance to play the game, I spotted a group of boys who were about 16. They were the kind of boys that you would avoid if you saw them walking on the other side of the street. I pretended not to notice them, hoping that would work. But then I saw him, my ex boyfriend. He was here, and he'd quit his job at the fair apparently. I put my head down, but it was too late, he recognized me.
"Oh hello, Madalyn, I didn't know you were here. Did you come to apologize?" he made up a story and deluded himself into thinking it was my fault he beat me.
"Uhm, I'm here with my uh boyfriend," I said, still not looking up. Although I'd found it in myself to leave him, I was still petrified beyond reason by him.
"I don't see a boyfriend," he said. He sauntered over to me and sat down. I looked around for Liam, but his back was turned to me. I jumped when I felt a hand on my thigh. I ran over to Liam and tapped on his shoulder. He looked annoyed, but when he saw the look on my face he hung up the phone and looked over at the boys.
"There a problem?" he asked. My boyfriend had some nerve, it was sickly.
"Let's talk," my boyfriend said.
I was petrified about what he would say.
Liam and my ex walked over to the other side, my ex's trusty friends not leaving my side for a second. Those snotty assholes thought that their man would be able to hurt Liam, they wouldn't. I saw Liam's hands clench up, and my ex smirk. Suddenly, my puppy threw a punch directly into my exes face. I saw my ex hit the boardwalk and blood spurt out of his nose. Liam walked back to me, and I could see a few cuts on his knuckles where my exes piercing had cut him. I took his hand and he smiled down at me. I walked off towards the car, more than ready to demand some explanations.
I only hoped that he wouldn't take offense to what I was about to say, but what can I say? I have an interesting past...
