Chapter 7: Scarlett and Hades.
The moon had gone down in the sky by the time I returned-mind you it was sunset when I left. I brought over food. I don’t know why but I could hear nick in my head again “they will help you Scarlett, just let them help you.” I did as I was told collecting some carrots and other vegetables. I started a fire and placed the vegetables over the fire and cooked a deer’s leg. I sat across from the boys and began to talk to them.
“Why are you here?” I asked softly almost shyly
“We were just coming by our last camp in downtown Toronto in an office building was overrun we barely made it out.” Niall said
I nodded “Don’t take this offensively but that was an idiot move, you shouldn’t have stayed in a damned office building.”
“Tell me about it” Zayn rolled his eyes and laughed
I smirked
“What happened?” Liam looked over at Nicks grave
“I-It-I”I took a breath “My brother, he was bitten he died in my arms. We were supposed to stay together he’s supposed to tell me to stay away from guys, to keep me safe.” Tears dripped down my face I angrily wiped them away.
Don’t show emotion Scarlett Rose. Do not show them weakness. They are dangerous. I told myself
Scarlett it’s okay, they are safe, they can keep you safe. Nicks voice rung out again in my head I was either going crazy or nick was a ghost talking to me from beyond the grave. My bet was on the first one. I was clinically crazy.
“I’m so sorry for your loss” Liam whispered “I didn’t mean to bring up harsh memories.”
“he died 4 days ago.”
Liam was quiet
“I’m sorry for jumping you Harry” I said “I was scared you were here to kill me and take everything.”
“its okay, you were scared and alone, we aren’t here to hurt you-“ harry stopped “we want help”
I nodded I took the deer leg off the fire and put it on a wooden board and began chopping big pieces off. I handed each boy one. Throwing my pitbull the bone.
“Thanks”
“thank you”
“thanks-” liam began “what’s your name? I don’t think we’ve even asked”
“Scarlett” I whispered “Scarlett Rose”
“It’s a beautiful name” Liam smiled
I blushed deeply.
“Why were you so scared of us?” Zayn asked
“I-“ I trembled as I told the story “A few months ago our last camp was ransacked by 5 men, Nick was hunting I was in camp alone in my tent-like I was wen you showed up. Not only did they steal everything but he tried-they tried to rape me. There were 5 of them I could hold them off ” tears streamed down my face “By the time nick got back they were groping my breasts and had gotten my underwear off but I was kicking and screaming and I was struggling, Nick shot them and killed them-but nicks not here and I was scared you were going to rape me and them kill me”
I heard someone get up and sit beside me and I felt my pit bull lick my hand and wined.
A warm hand was on my hack rubbing it, “I’m so sorry for what happened to you, we would never, we like to think we are still relatively civil.”
I sniffled and wiped my eyes.
“Who is this” Zayn asked pointing to my beautiful Dog.
“This is Hades,” I said “he is 2 years old, we had bought him when I was 14, he’s a reverse blue brindle. I trained him very well. He can go from loving to attack in one command. look.”
“Hades,” I clucked my tongue and snapped and pointed to Zayn’s direction Hades walked over and sniffed his hand and started to play.
“Harry try to get to Zayn.” He got up to walk over
“Hades Defend” I commanded and Hades immediately laid his ears flat on his skull and growled a low menacing chesty sound.
“Gah” Harry walked backwards slowly
“Advance” I said to Hades he started to walk slowly Towards Harry. Each step was deliberate each move was well calculated, perfect for an attack.
“Hades Heel.” And he did he just stopped his fur fell his ears rose he yawned and walked back over to me.
I patted his head. “Good boy” He barked and licked my hand.
I giggled, “Gross Hades, Gross” He just wagged his tale and stretched. Making his way into my tent.
I laughed. “He’s a Lazy Bum. Probably going to sleep or something”
Zayn Smiled “I love dogs. And it looks like he wasn’t going to take a nap” Zayn pointed to my tent were Hades was walking out with a picture in his mouth.
“what?” I furrowed my brows Hades nudged my hand with his nose a gesture that meant ‘look’. I took the picture from his hand. It was a picture of Nick and I on My 16th birthday to days before the world went to shit.
“You want to know were Nick is” I nodded
Hades looked at me. And I stood up. I walked slowly over to Nicks Grave. Hades followed and as I stood there Hades understood he stood on the grave and howled. He howled so loudly it echoed off the tree it was so sad, loss evident in this broken hearted dog. And He whimpered and he cried and then so did I.
“Why are you here?” I asked softly almost shyly
