We got into camp and immediately set a low fire to cook the can of green beans. Food was running low and our traps where empty. We ate in silence. We enjoyed the time we had to talk but silence was always appreciated.
“You need to take a bath.” I stated looking at Nick’s brown blond hair, a few shades darker than my honey blonde hair. It was slightly greasy from the sweat in the hot summer.
“I do” he said, “I’ll take one after dinner”
It was quiet again
“Nick? “I asked “You ever wonder what it would be like if Mom didn’t have the miscarriage? If we had that newborn baby brother to take care of too? If they were all here? Alive?”
“Sometimes” Nick said Placing the empty can on the ground “But its better with just us. We can protect each other fully.”
“The baby is lucky. He doesn’t have to deal with Vivens Mortua.” I said
“He’s safe. In heaven. Along with mom and dad “ Nick agreed

I was curdled up in my bed- more like a sleeping bag in a tent, directly beside Nicks tent. Mom and dad aren’t dead I prayed silently.It was sticky and muggy in the tent.
Nick and I were born here, in Toronto and moved to Atlanta when I was 3. The summers in Atlanta Georgia were Molten, so we got to Toronto when everything started going downhill.
It took us about 5 Days. Staying off of main roads and collecting canned goods on the way. We where lucky enough to find multiple cars full of gasoline and we emptied those into fuel canisters. It had been hard running across the country, but it was the safest. We didn’t know what to expect in Toronto but we had to get away from Atlanta.
We originally had people here with us. We had met up with a small group of people who weren’t infected by Vivens Mortua - 4 people. A 20 year old named Hunter and his best friends Drew, Vic and Julian. Hunter and I had hit it off. We were more than friends, but being 16 and him 20 with an over protective older brother, didn’t go too well- But that’s another story for another time.
We would sneak off after dark and just sit by the water watching the moon reflect off of the lake. We would reminisce on our past lives, hold each other and just laugh. Sometimes we would even hop into the lake for a swim.
But one day the cruel reality of Vivens Mortua hit us like a bus. While were being stupid and goofing off they attacked. Vic and Drew were killed, Julian was Vic’s Twin brother, they both had the same bright blue eyes, Strong Nose, High Cheekbones and black hair. They where Models with a tough beginning. Drew had Hazel eyes and brown hair a dusting of freckled covered his nose.
And Hunter. My Hunter. He was beautiful. His big brown eyes, his full lips, brown hair, lean powerful muscles, tanned skin. He was just my type. He was funny, smart, sweet, kind, courageous, generous, understanding, thoughtful, protective, loving and slightly perverted, like me.
Whenever one of us accidently tapped the others bum instead of apologizing, a series of embarrassing and creepy faces where exchanged.
This thought made me smile in my tent.
I closed my eyes and began to dream.
