Chapter 21: The First Supper.
3 Weeks Later
Scarlett’s Pov
The camp has become more advanced. We have a picnic bench and actually utensils to cook with now. We all sat down around the table, to celebrate the fact we’ve made it this long- and the fantastic food haul we made, we found and empty Farmhouse a few miles away, food growing everywhere.
Louis and Zayn carried huge slabs of roasted elk and deer over to our table. Harry made a salad- yes a salad- a few vegetables- carrots, green beans, sugar-snap peas- covered with a bit of olive oil, salt, oregano and basil. Liam brought over some fish that he had caught that morning, grilled with oregano and thyme. And Niall and I worked on making something that resembled a blueberry pie. Our crust was actually quite good in consideration. And a bottle of wine was picked up on too. Ouu tonight was going to be good.
Liam kissed me before he sat down, “Looks good” I said gesturing to the fish
“The pie looks good” He smiled pressing his lips to mine again.
I smiled. I couldn’t help it he was perfect.
Everyone sat down around the table. We all began putting food on our plates, excitement blazing like live wires above our heads.
I threw hades some of the bones of the elk and deer.
“Who would like to say grace?” Niall asked “Scarlett?”
“um, sure” I said, I cleared my throat and looked towards hades his head in his paws and his eyes closed prepared for grace. I put my hand out towards
“Our father,
Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom comes,
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven,
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespassed against us,
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one,
Amen”
I took a breath, “Lord thank you for the food at our table, and the people around us. Thank you for helping us through this hard time by blessing us with this food. Please leave a place in heaven for all of us, with our loved ones. Thank you for bringing these boys into my life,” I said making eye contact with them all “ I was in a dark place after nick was taken away from me and they pulled me out of this dark hole. I am forever grateful to you both. Let us stay safe and find a cure to save lives. In the name of The Father, and The Son, and The Holy Spirit, Amen”
“Amen” they all echoed after me
“Let’s eat!” I clapped my hands together; we all dug in including hades.
After the clean up we all had time to ourselves. I wandered over to the small bulletin like structure under the ‘hospital’. It had pictures of all of us with our families before and pictures we took with a Polaroid camera.
Food had become more scarce, we had all lost weight, Hades was beginning to get a little to skinny for my liking. I threw pieces of deer and the raw rib bones of the elk in front of him. He sat there and looked up at me tongue lolling out of his mouth. I reached down and patted his head tenderly.
Liam’s muscles too had begun to shrink in size; food was so scarce I realized that our bodies were eating themselves to stay alive.
I too had begun to get much too skinny. I touched the photograph of nick and I: I was a good size then. A size eight, sometimes a 10, sometimes a 6: I had nice round hips and a full bosom a nice ass, now my bum and my hips had shrunken, my thighs and arms too, even my fingers looked to have become bonier. Actually I know my fingers had become bonier, I had taken to wearing my mom’s engagement ring and wedding ring on my ring finger, they fit me perfectly at one point now they had become looser.
I walked away towards the quarry and sat on a rock by the water. I pulled out and looked at the other picture of my parents, Nick, Hades and I: My Mom with big brown doe-like eyes, Thick long auburn hair and a straight nose, My Dad with broad shoulders, Dark hair and fair blue eyes, Nick with my Dad’s hair and eyes, moms nose and fair skin. And me I looked so happy. So so happy… The sun had begun to set and the breeze had begun to pick up, I shivered lightly.
I felt something cover my shoulders, I looked up and saw the familiar brown eyes with thick brows above them.
“Hi Liam” I mumbled
He kissed my head “Hi Scarlett, What are you up to?” He sat down next to me.
I handed him the picture of them. “Those are my parents, Nick and I.”
“You resemble both of your parent quite a lot, You have your mum’s nose to an extent, and her big eyes- but they’re blue- You have you less cheek bones than your mum and more than your dad, You and nick- Your cheekbones were alike.”
I nodded “I looked so-so… healthy”
“You did” he replied “You had curves you weren’t a toothpick, I like that”
I blushed a dark red “I always thought I was fat Liam…”
He looked at me, so confused “Why? You were perfect, you’re much to slim now”
“I was a size 8-10 Liam” I said “I wanted to get into a 4 or a 6”
“Well you should never want that” he said “you should be happy with your body”
“I’ve learned to love it,” I said “I did then too, its just I was very muscular, swimming and hiking that’s a pain”
He laughed. And so did I.
Everything went quite for a moment before he spoke up again.
“You know Scarlett” He said, “I’ve come to a conclusion, I’m completely and utterly smitten with you”
I looked at him.
“I love you Scarlett Rose Alexander”
