Story of my Life

Chapter One

It wasn't the first time since I had moved to London that I woke up before the alarm. Lately, I had been waking up earlier than usual, which was strange because "usual" had become 6:00 am since I started working at the coffee shop.

I had moved to London to pursue my dream of becoming an actress. Don't ask me why I picked London; I was beginning to question my decision myself. My best friend, Jenna Adams, had told me I should start somewhere big, so I chose some place I thought was big enough. London was big, but apparently not the kind of big I was looking for, since I was stuck working at a small coffee shop called the Coffee Leaf. Sure, I was working in a major city, but that didn't mean I enjoyed being there. That was why I worked at the Coffee Leaf three times a week: Monday and Wednesday and Friday until noon. Whatever it took to keep my apartment, I suppose.

Deciding there wasn't much left to do other than wait the thirty minutes until six, I rolled out of bed and staggered to my small bathroom, frowning at my reflection in the mirror. My hair looked to nice to shower, so I just brushed out the tangles and dug through my drawers in hopes of finding something suitable to wear. I decided on my skinny jeans and a white sweater. After applying minimal makeup, I grabbed my purse and slipped on my shoes, leaving my apartment.

"It's too early for this." I muttered, making my way out to my car. Backing out of the parking lot, I wiggled my phone from my back pocket, checking my text messages. Jenna had texted, as usual; she had spent the night at Jonathan's again.

I rolled my eyes, tossing the phone aside. If there was one thing that drove me crazy about Jenna, it was her boyfriends. All of them were jerks and losers who smoked, or drank or were just total morons. Jon had been her first boyfriend, her third and now her sixth. It amazed me how many times Jenna was willing to get back with the loser. My favorite had been Seth, but he and Jenna only lasted a few months because, I guess, he wasn't loser enough.

It took me only five minutes to get from work to home, which annoyed me because that meant I was still early. Being early was never fun; it meant I had longer to work. Still, there was nothing I could do about it, so I just opened the door to the Coffee Leaf and flicked on the lights, letting the small room light up.

There usually weren't customers until about seven, so I had some time to kill. I lazily wiped off the tables (not that they needed to be) and cleaned the counter. Since I had about an hour to kill, I flopped myself down in a chair and scrolled aimlessly through Twitter. It was more boring than I had expected.

The bell above the door tinkled at around 6:45. I slipped out of the chair and walked around to stand behind the counter like a good girl, smiling expectantly. The girl before me looked a little frazzled, her short blonde hair ruffled and uncombed. Before I could even ask her what she wanted, she hastily said, "I'll just have a coffee. Black, please."

"Sure." I stuck my hand out to take the money, getting her credit card instead. I hated those because it meant I had to try and work the sad looking credit card machine. I swiped the card, praying to God that it worked, then gave it back to the girl. "I'll have that ready in a little bit."

I wasn't really any hurry to get this girl's coffee done; I had nothing to do once she left. Still, I could tell she was in a rush so I decided to be cater to her rather than to myself. I handed her the cup and she whispered a hasty thank you and spun around.

"At least you have somewhere to be going." I said darkly, watching the door close behind her. I wondered if she was going to work. She couldn't be going to meet any body special, though, looking like that.

I was about to sit back down when the bell rang cheerfully again, making me frown. I didn't bother looking up at whoever came in, just grabbed a cup and pretended I was cleaning until he or she placed their order.

"Um, excuse me? Do you sell anything other than coffee?"

I stopped "cleaning". Why, yes, we do. If this moron would look at the menu, he would figure that out. I could tell it was a man, probably older judging by his deep voice. I glanced up at him. "Yeah."

I was about to go back to my ignoring him and wait for him to find the "other" section on the menu, but I froze. I slowly brought my gaze back up the boy, who was staring back up at the menu and rocking back and forth on his heels. It took me a second to realize that I was staring at Harry Styles.

Notes

Ugh, I wrote this really quickly so it isn't very good. Anyway, this is the "intro" to my newest fan fiction! I hope you like it!
