Chap. 11

Alex POV

Katie and I came home just in time. Katie’s car had just vanished from my window when I saw Mary’s devil red Mercedes convertible pull up into the driveway. I could feel myself sigh in relief as I went into the bathroom and locked the door behind me. I walked up to the sink white bowl sink and looked at myself straight in the mirror connected to the white cabinet when I felt like was something. I stared hard at my reflection when I felt the lack of weight on my neck.

My mother’s necklace! I could feel myself begin to hyperventilate. My head felt like it was going to burst as tried to retrace my steps. It was probably in Katie’s car, I’ll just look for it on Monday. It was going to be Katie’s car, right. I willed myself to strip out of my dress and climb into the shower. I felt the pressure in my brain calm down a little bit as the hot water pattered against my back. The steam made me calm down and I quickly got out of the shower and wrapped a striped orange and red towel around me. I pulled the dress up and hid in the cabinet underneath the sink so nobody would find it.

When I walked out of the room, I was Mary sitting cross-legged on my bed towards the bathroom with a smug expression and confident eyes.

“How was you night, Alex. No trouble or rule-breaking, I assume,” She said as she got up and walked towards me. I felt like the FBI was interrogating me. I could feel tiny beads of sweat develop on my forehead and I could feel my heart stop beating in my chest.

“No trouble,” I managed to blurt out.

“Good,” she said, “because tomorrow I have a dinner that needs setting up with that new X-factor band, One Direction and Simon Cowell. I left the details on that thing you call a desk,” she said as she slowly backed away from the desk and walked to the door wagging her hips. “Get it done,” she ordered as she slammed the already brittle door.

I ignored the whole list for tonight and plopped onto the safe haven of my bead. No one could come into my dreams and destroy everything. I slipped the soft blue and white floral covers over my head, and didn’t even think about the part that I would have to serve One Direction and Harry Styles tomorrow at dinner. I fell asleep without a single worry or thought in my head.

Harry POV

I laid in my bed with the bedside lamp giving the room a glow that let me examine the pendent that Cinderella. The moment that I almost kissed and found out who she was kept replaying my head. I couldn’t get her out my head. The way she looked in her dress and the way she looked into my eyes. Even though her eyes had a mask on top of it, I knew that she wasn’t actually trying to use me. In fact, by looking into her eyes, I knew that she was genuine. She was a diamond in the ruff.

I kept pulling my finger over the engraved part of the necklace. “When life gets hard, remember that it will get better.” – From Mom. She obviously has some kind of connection to her mom, but who doesn’t. I love my mom. If she gave me a necklace to wear, I probably would wear it when the occasion was right.

I watched the lamp light shine against the black stone as I my eyelids dropped down and I fell asleep with my thoughts clouded about this one girl. She was all I could even think about. She probably even showed up in my dreams.

Alex POV

The next day was the day of the dinner that Mary had planned with the Simon Cowell. What was the dinner even for? Alexis and Shay wouldn’t stop gushing like a bunch of crazy fan girls all day. The dinner took forever to cook and I had to clean the whole kitchen after. I was so tired by the time a limo showed up in front of the house.

“Here,” Mary said handing me a long, blue jacket to wear over my current dress that I had been wearing all night, “Did you think you were eating with us,” she questioned as she broke out into a short fit of laughter. “Put it, you’ll be the server.”

I took the jacket out of her hand and she clicked her heels away towards the front door. I rolled my eyes at her back and gave her some devilish look as I turned around and went back to the white granite countertops to make sure that the shrimp appetizers were all ready. I took a dish cloth and wiped away all of the grease as I heard a familiar voice behind me.

“Er, Hi. Do you mind if I glass of water,” Harry said as I was critiquing my plates.

“Um, sure,” I replied as I went to the custom made dark brown kitchen cabinet and picked out a nice glass out for him and filled it up with the tap water. I handed the water to him and went back to my plates.

“So, you’re a cook, huh,” he said as he made himself at ease on the bar stool across from where I was standing.

“No, I live here,” I replied, “it’s complicated,” I continued so that he wouldn’t ask anymore questions.

“Well, I guess you’re only talent isn’t swimming and calculus,” he smirked and then took a sip out of his glass, “the plates look delicious.”

I gave him a polite smile and then continued to look at my plates. I had no idea why I was so interested in those plates.

“Ok, I have a quick question,” he said as he rummaged through his pockets, “have you seen a girl in school wearing this necklace.” In his hand, he held my mother’s necklace with the black teardrop pendent and the engraving, the engraving that gave me hope for the future. I felt my breath hitch in my throat.

“No,” I replied knowing that I would never wear that at school.

“Ok, thanks. I’ll see you at tutoring on Monday,” he said as he put the glass down on the counter and walked out of the kitchen. I sighed in relief as the door swung shut behind him. At least my necklace was safe and sound.
