Coming To Light
I was floating on Cloud 9 in my dream state. I don't know what that claw did to me but I think I'm okay with it if this is what it feels like after.
~HARRY~
Oh, God. What have I done? I should've never taken her to see that monster. I should've known he'd do something like this. But to place his own daughter under the Alpha's Curse? Who does that?
God.... I've been protecting her from this for years and now, when she needs me the most, I'm the one who could have ended it for her. Her body went slack once we'd all touched her. The problem with removing an Alpha's Claw from another Alpha was that, unless Dylan killed six people for a sacrifice by the next full moon, she'd be overcome by the Alpha's Curse. She remained unconscious for a day and when she woke up, she'd have a thirst for blood. The problem would be getting her to restrain herself to only kill six people. If she goes over or under the limit, she'd either die or become an Omega to the pack that Cursed her.
"Harry... Harry! She's not moving and her breathing is really shallow. What do we do?" I'm surprised to hear Lexxi speak first.
"I... I don't know Lex. I don't know what to do anymore." I was numb. My heart was frozen in a state of shock. The only girl I had ever loved was about to live the nightmare I'd prevented for thirteen years and become a cold blooded monster.
"Let's just get her somewhere safe. Can your mom help us, Harry?" Jonathen spoke up.
"Ummm... I don't know. Maybe."
"Well, it's worth a try." Daniah muttered, while Erin walked back and forth saying 'oh, god' over and over. I can't say I don't know why.
"I'd have to talk to her first. Bring Dylan back to the Hideout." They picked Dylan up and followed me to the safe house. The first thing I did was grab my phone off the table and watch, worriedly, as they set her down on the couch. I couldn't believe I let this happen. I dialed my mum and she picked up on the third ring.
"Hey, Hun... what's the problem?"
"Mum... ummm... I have bad news."
"Oh, God... I knew I shouldn't have left! Did you burn the house down? Did you get arrested?"
"No! Mum, Dylan Changed."
"Oh... well, you can't protect her from everything, Harry. She had to deal with it sooner or later. It's in her blood."
"That's not the bad part. She was put under the Alpha's Curse."
"Oh my... wait. Alpha... it was Mike wasn't it? I knew that no-good, son of a b-"
"Mum! We took out the claw. I was in the heat of the moment and forgot all the repercussions that could come after." The line was silent for a while.
"Oh God, Harold. You and your hero complex!"
"Can you help? Do you have any training, any at all, in medicine?"
"Yes, I'll be home shortly. How long has she been out?'
"About an hour, I think."
"Take her to the house. You and Erin can stay with her but send everyone else home. And call Gemma once you get there. I'll need her, too." Before I could say anything else, the line went dead.
"Can she help?" Izak spoke up.
"Yes," I said, "She'll be home soon. She said to take Dylan to my house." They all shook their heads and picked her up, again. This time, I helped. Once we got her out to my car, we all got back in the cars we came and took the short cut out of the forest to my house. I pulled into the driveway and tried not to think of Dylan's half alive body. I didn't breathe until I heard her exhale every time, just to make sure she was still alive. I picked her up and carried her into the house. Erin and Lex sat on opposite couches, Jonathen sat next to Erin, and Izak, Shawn, and Daniah were just entering the house when I sat Dylan down on a couch, covered her in a blanket, and sat in the chair next to her.
"So, what do we do now?" Shawn said while Daniah stared at the floor.
"Well, my mum said to have everyone gone by the time she gets home so I guess... you guys can leave and when I know what's gonna happen, I can call you."
"But-"
"You don't have to leave, Erin. She knew you'd want to stay."
"I know this is asking a bit much but... can you guys drop us off at home?" Lexxi asks, looking at Shawn, yet avoiding Izak's glare.
"Yeah, sure," Shawn says, but at the same time, Izak says, "Hell no."
"Dude, she needs a ride. It's just a one time thing. I promise." Izak glares at Shawn until Daniah clears her throat.
"Come on, Lexxi. We'll take you home." She says. I've never seen this side of Daniah. The authoritative, no bullshit, side. She's usually so quiet. But maybe it's because of her and Shawn's secret relationship.
"Thank you." Lexxi walks over and gives me a hug. "I hope she's alright. I really do." She says and disappears through the door.
"What was that all about?" Erin askd. He thought we didn't know about his crush on little Miss Too-Bitchy-For-Her-Own-Good.
"She just said that she hopes Dylan is okay." I picked up the house phone off the night stand and dialed Gemma. Her voice mail picked up.
"Hey Gem... It's me. Mum wants you home because she needs your help with something really important. Call me back as soon as you can." I hung up the phone.
"What's going on with you two, anyway?" Erin asked.
"Who?"
"You and Dylan."
"You know what's going on." I said.
"I don't. Why are you so protective over her?"
"Because." I didn't want to have this conversation with him.
"Because what?"
"Because I'm in love with her, okay? Is that good enough for you? I'm in love with the girl I've been friends with for thirteen years and I've been waiting around for her to realize it all this time and you know what? It still doesn't feel real because how can she love me when she didn't give me a chance until she was drunk? How can she go from loving as a friend to loving me as the person she wants to spend her life with? How can she love me... when I can't protect her?" Somewhere along the way, I started yelling and my pulse had risen. I breathed heavily, trying to steady it again.
"Because Dylan is hard headed, bro. She's the only one who didn't know you were in love with her... and who didn't see that she felt the same way." He got up and left the living room and entered the kitchen.
Dylan... please wake up...
I remember the first time we met...
"Harry Styles?"
"Here." I called, raising my hand.
"Dylan Rose?" I looked around, hoping to see Dylan. She was really pretty and I wanted to play with her but I knew the other boys would make fun of me. So, I haven't said a word to her.
"Dylan Rose?" The day care lady said again. Dylan's not here... "She was here before recess... will someone go find Dylan out on the playground for me?" The teacher said. I was the first to raise my hand.
"Thank you, Harry." I made my way outside as she continued her roll call. The playground is right outside the classroom so she could see me.
"Dylan?" I call but there's no answer. I walk over to the bridge underneath the monkey bars.
"Dylan?" I said again but all I heard was soft crying. I got down on my knees and looked directly at Dylan. She was crying, her brown eyes looked sad, and her eyelashes are sticking together with tears.
"Go away." She muttered through her crying.
"What's wrong?"
"My dress ripped! I told my mum I didn't want to wear this stupid dress but she's always fighting with my dad and she says it makes her feel better to see me looking like a girl." She sniffled. I made her come from beneath the bridge and rubbed her back.
"I think you look like a very pretty girl, every day."
"Really?"
"Mhm... and I don't think your parents will care about that little rip." It really wasn't all that little but that's wasn't what she needed to hear.
"Okay. What's your name again?"
"Harry." Then, I helped her up and we walked back to the class together, hand in hand. And we'd been best friends since.
I was so wrapped up in my thoughts that I almost missed the doorbell.
"I got it!" Erin called, but I beat him to it.
