Chapter 5 -the big move-
I got ready for work and drove. I was very, very, very, excited to see Gabby. I barely knew her personality but she was pretty and that already got me interested.
I got into my classroom with 30minutes to spare before school started.
I practiced what I would say to gabby…
Maybe “do you want to hang out sometime” NO THAT WAS WEIRD SHE WAS MY STUDENT…. IDK HELPPPP ME!!!!
Before I knew it the school bell rang and everyone was in class. We worked on some old stuff (review) multiplying fractions. Somehow I knew how to do that!
Then I introduced a new math skill. I had studied it all night on the computer I was going to teach them. I’m not going to lie… I barely understood it.
(EXAMPLE)
In how many ways can one arrange on a bookshelf 5 thick books, 4 medium\par sized books and 3 thin books so that the books of the same size remain together?
A)5! 4! 3! 3! = 103,680
B)5! 4! 3! = 17,280
C) (5! 4! 3!) x 3 = 51,840
D) 5 x 4 x 3 x 3 =180
E) 2 12 x 3 =12,288
AND I WAS HOPEING THAT GABBY DIDN’T UNDERSTAND IT EIRTHER SO WE COULD HAVE A STUDY DATE!
Gabby raised her hand.
“Mr. B, can you help me”? she said
I smiled and said sure
“ok class compare your answer with your neighbor. If you both have different answers combine minds and do it together, again”.
I walked over to Gabby.
“yes, I know it’s very confusing”. I explained
“yeah, can I stay after or can we work on this somewhere”? she asked
And I smiled happily “of course, would you like to come over my house , well I’m staying at a hotel so you could go there, and work on it” I asked hoping she wasn’t scared to go over her subs house but she took me by surprise.
“ok what time? 6:30 maybe” she asked?
“alright see you than”
“Wait can I have your number so we can stay in touch and you could text me the hotel and room?” she asked
“course” I said
I gave her a slip of paper with my number and full name

she smiled.
I got the classes attention and showed them how to do the problem…. I knew I was doing it totally wrong but I had to show them that I was the teacher and that I knew what I was doing.
UGH HOW AM I SOPPOSED TO TEACH THIS?
… I reviewed with the other classes 10th grade math review they were the number 1 math class (worst) we did some dividing fractions and I played biz buzz with them.
Then I drove home from work wondering about how my date with Gabby would be…
