The Fighter (AU/Punk)

Chapter 41

Flashback continued
They released me from the hospital after two weeks. Two whole weeks. I was allowed to leave for dad's funeral and wake but they always wanted me to spend the night there, apparently my stomach was very sensitive due to how deep the cut was.
I've been home for a week though, and it's been rough. Mom is distant, she barely talks and rarely comes out of her room, preferring to keep the curtains drawn. Usually she would be outside gardening all day during this time of year but all she's done is lay in bed. Jessie has been taking care of her and I considering I get tired really easily and my stomach hurts so much. I can't really eat many solid foods which sucks. I haven't seen Collin at all since I gave my statement about him driving. I keep trying to convince myself that he would be the one to drive, especially since it was his car, but I don't actually remember anything. However, if me lying and saying Collin was driving means I can be here for Jessie and mom, I'm willing to do it.
I walk down the hallway slowly, staring out at the backyard from the large windows that stream in the morning sunlight. I balance the tray with my moms breakfast on it in my hands and try to focus on anything but the sharp pain in my midsection.
I get to her door and shift the tray so it's balancing on one hand as I knock tentatively. To my surprise it creaks open with the pressure I place on it and I open it all the way before walking into the room.
"Mom I brought breakfast," I say softly and turn to face the room.
The tray falls out of my hands and my hand flies to my mouth while the other goes to my stomach. Oh my god. I can't help the blood curdling scream that bubbles out of my lips at the sight in front of me.
My mothers limp body twists back and forth slowly as she hangs from the small chandelier in the center of the room. A chair lay kicked over and forgotten below her. Her blonde hair falls in a curtain around her face and her hands are pale. I stare in shock at the scene.
My mom hung herself.
I hear footsteps sprint into the room and Jessie's voice behind me. "Oh my god," he says loudly. He rushes forward and picks up the chair, setting it below her body. He climbs onto it and puts one arm around her still body, the other reaches up and expertly unties the noose.
"Violet grab this," he says sternly, holding out the noose for me. I rush forward and grab the rope that I recognize from the gardening shed. The rope hangs limply in my hand as I stare at it. Jessie lifts moms body up and cautiously gets off the chair before laying her on the bed.
"Violet go call 911," he says softly as he stares at her.
Without any hesitation I sprint out of the room but I don't go right to my bedroom. I burst through the bathroom doors and kneel over the toilet, heaving up all the liquid foods that I've eaten until there's nothing left in my stomach. I feel hollow. I'm a minor and both of my parents are dead within a month. What's going to happen to me? I lean against the cool tile and sob, clutching my knees to my chest and ignoring the sharp pain in my stomach.
"Violet?" Jessie says sadly and I look up to see him standing in use doorway. He has his cell phone in his hand and tears fall down his face as well. "I heard you," he gestures to the toilet. "The police will be here soon."
I nod and his arms wrap around me, pulling me close. Hope strokes my hair and we sit there on the bathroom floor until the police show up, holding each other close, afraid to lose the last family we each had left. I tap on his back lightly.
Tap tap. Tap tap.
For some reason the movement helps me calm down and breathe so I continue. Tap tap.
Tap tap.

Harry's POV
"Hello Mrs. Payne, it's Harry," I say into the phone.
"Oh hello Harry!" She exclaims. "How are you?"
"I'm good," I say and glance at Louis across the room. "Mrs. Payne I was wondering if there was anywhere that Liam might have gone to escape or something," I scratch the back of my head.
"Is everything okay?" Mrs. Payne asks worriedly.
"Yeah yeah everything's fine," I reassure.
"Oh well there is the cabin," she explains.
A cabin! That could be where Sage is. "Where at?"
"Oh geez," she sighs. "I'm going to have to call the mister and ask the address, I'll get back to you as soon as I can."
I groan, "alright thanks."
The call ends and I look at Lou. "There's a cabin," I say and his eyebrows shoot up.
"Where at?"
"She doesn't know," I press the palms of my hands into my eyes. The urgency to find Sage is hitting me over and over again.
"Should we tell the police?" He asks.
"We should tell Zayn and Niall," I think. After that we can decide if we want to tell the cops. But first, I need that address. I just hope Liam's mum gets it fast.

Sages POV
"Good morning sleeping beauty," Michaels voice coos.
My eyes flutter open and I groan. Everything hurts. I reach up to stretch but my arms are restrained.
"What the..." I mumble and look down to see my hands tied to a chair.
"Welcome back," a familiar voice says. I look up and see Liam striding towards me.
I'm back in the room I escaped from! Holy hell how did I get here? I struggle against the restrains but the pain in my arm causes me to cry out.
"Michael?" I ask in a panic, my voice hoarse. I stare at Michael in the corner of the room, his arms crossed across his chest. He smirks at me and my heart sinks. He was in on it. I trusted him and now I'm right back where I started.
"You see a little pale," Liam observes, standing right in front of me.
"Fuck off," I whisper weakly. My heart is pounding in my chest and I'm absolutely freezing. There's something wrong with me. I highly suspect it has to do with the poison ivy in my blood stream.
"You know you should probably get that arm checked out," Michael pipes up.
I turn my blurry gaze to him and attempt a glare.
"Unfortunately it won't really matter in a few hours," Liam says with mock sympathy.
"You're behind all of this," I pant softly, accusing Michael.
"Should we let whatever that arm is doing kill her," Liam muses. "Or kill her ourselves."
"Hmmm" Michael muses. "That's a good question. You see killing her ourselves would guarantee a quick and painful death. If we let her just die then there's no telling how long it's going to take, but it could be even more painful than us killing her. She would be begging us to put a bullet through her brain."
"You," I whisper hoarsely. "Assholes."
My heart is pounding so violently I think it's going to burst from my chest. My head lolls to the side limply, my neck not strong enough to support it anymore. It's like my veins are on fire yet I'm freezing.
Michael approaches and I watch with half opened eyes. He grabs my chin and forcefully pulls it upward, so that our noses are mere inches away from touching each other.
"I trusted you," I mutter.
He smirks and his hand brushes along my cheek. I wince in remembrance of the bruise that now stains my skin from where Liam hit me.
"You seem a little ill," Michael says, his thumb tracing over the planes of my face.
"Maybe you should take me to a hospital," I suggest with exhaustion.
"Or we could just see how painful whatever's happening to you is going to get," he says with a smile.
His hand moves down, releasing my chin. His gaze travels to my rapidly rising and falling chest, barely concealed by the thin white tank top. His finger hooks in the fabric and he pulls it towards him, allowing him access to stare down at my chest.
"Nice bra," he observes and releases the tank top.
He gets to his feet and crosses the room to stand by Liam.
"Keep your eyes on her," he says sternly before walking out of the room, the door slamming shut behind him.

Zayns POV
I look at Daniel from across the table. He wanted to 'question' me. Really he just wanted to talk to me in private, hoping it could reveal something else that couldn't be brought up in front of the others.
"Why haven't you been able to bring these bastards down?" His voice is strained with frustration.
"It's tricky to get hard evidence," I shrug.
"You've been undercover longer than anyone, Violet shouldn't have even been sent in with you there!" He yells.
"Woah there," I grumble. "It's not my fault you decided that sending a traumatized ex cop undercover to get dirt on the worst gang in London."
Daniel runs his hands through his hair and sends me a look that could kill. He looks as though he's about to say something else when the door opens and my boss walks in.
"Nice to see you Mr. Malik," he says with a grim smile. His balding head shines under the florescent lights as he sits across from me in the steel chair. Daniel leans against the wall and glares at me, at least he's not yelling anymore.
"So Violet Marks," he muses and opens a pale yellow file.
"What about her?" I ask, folding my arms over my chest and leaning back in the chair. To anyone else I probably look like an average street punk being interrogated. With the tattoos and black clothes, I blend in perfectly. When really, I've had the same training as any cop, plus my undercover training.
"What do you know about her disappearance?" He asks and leans his allows on the table.
"I already told you all, Liam took her and I don't know where," I say with confusion. "And they know she's a cop, they know I am too."
He hums and leans back, posture guarded. "How would they have that information?"
"I don't know!" I exclaim angrily. They should be focused on finding Sage not wasting time interrogating me.
Wait a minute... I glance at Daniel, standing defensively by the door. The mirrored wall glares at me, reflecting the scene I'm in.
"This is an interrogation," I say with disbelief. "Do you think I had something to do with this?"
"You're the only one who knew she was a cop."
