The Fighter (AU/Punk)

Chapter 40

Sages POV
I brush my hair out of my face and my eyes widen at the sight in front of me.
A car. A mother fucking car is actually driving down this never ending road!!!
I jump up and down and wave my uninjured arm, temporarily forgetting about the pain coursing through my entire body.
As the black car approaches my heart pounds. What if it's someone working with Liam? I shake off the fear as the car comes to a halt next to me. The drivers door opens and my heart practically stops.
"Michael," I whisper and he rushes around to embrace me, his muscular arms wrapping around my frail figure. "How did you find me?" I ask, my voice muffled.
"I just started driving," he explains. "I'm really glad you're safe."
He pulls back from our embrace and his eyes widen in shock as he sees my puffy red arm.
"What the hell happened?" He asks and leads me to the passenger side.
"Nothing I want to discuss," I mutter, glancing at the disgusting injury.
He nods understandingly and shuts me in to the car. I lean against the comfortable leather seat and my feet throb from various cuts and the amount of time I spent walking. My eyes flutter closed as I let myself relax for the first time all night. Well I guess it's morning now.
"Where'd you get the gun?" He asks and I pull the heavy metal out of the waist band of my shorts.
"Also a long story," I sigh and set the gun on the dashboard in front of me. He nods and presses his lips together as he begins driving.
"Get some sleep Vi," he says softly, glancing over at me.
I happily obey his request and my eyes flutter shut, ignoring the pain my body is in as I cuddle against the seat.

Harry's POV
Well Zayn called the police. And now we are all in Zayns flat, with the cops. A few of them shoot us all dirty looks but for the most part they seem focused on finding Sage. Zayn has done all of the talking, telling them that our friend Liam took her and we have no idea why. He took a call earlier and has seemed a bit troubled ever since.
"What's on your mind?" I question as we stand alone in the kitchen.
"Nothing," he shakes off the question. He's keeping something from me. My eyes narrow and I'm about to ask him again when a police officer saunters into the room.
I scan the man and freeze at his familiarity. It's the guy I beat up in the garage, the one that Sage tried to help. He smirks at me and folds his arms over his black suit.
"Nice to see you again," he says and leans against the counter.
"You as well," I say, feigning manners.
"Now let's make something clear," the guy-Daniel-says seriously. "I haven't forgotten that you and your gang had a part in beating the shit out of me. But apparently they need more evidence considering I was found with the same people who took me. However, I'm still going to take you down."
My teeth clench at his words even though I know he won't be able to. "I thought you were here to find Sage?" I ask.
"I am," he smiles. "And we'll find her, and then I'm going to throw her in prison with all of you."
I'm about to lunge at the bastard but Zayn steps in my way, pushing me back.
"I don't think it would be very helpful to finding Sage if you're locked up," he says lowly. Daniel leaves the room and I sink back against the counter.
"We just need to find her," I mutter. I can't stand knowing that Liam has her with that bastard who attacked her and god only knows who else is there. They are probably doing all sorts of horrible things to her. I've seen Liam work, he can inflict serious harm against a 400 pound man made of entirely muscle, I'd hate to think what he could do to Sage. She can't give into him. She has to keep fighting. She's a fighter after all. And not just in the career sense of the word. I've never seen someone with such a passion about random people and topics. She fights for what she believes in and what's right. She has to fight against Liam.
"She will be okay mate," Zayn says quietly and my eyes meet his. "She's a fighter after all," it's like he read my mind.

Sages POV
Flashback continued
I glance over at Collin in the passenger and he smirks, sliding his hand up my bare thigh. My skin tingles and I bite my lip as my eyes travel back to the road, knowing it turns him on.
He grunts as I drive, trying to keep the wheel steady. Things are blurry but I think I'm in the right lane. I turn back to Collin and his lips crash against mine, the steering wheel forgotten.
"I want you right now," he says desperately and I giggle.
"I'm driving," I mutter and stare into his clouded eye. He smirks and I lean back in my seat, watching the road once more. Something looks kinda weird...I brush off the thought until I see headlights coming directly towards me.
"Hey violet I think you're in the wrong lane," Collin muses and I yank the wheel harshly to the right but somehow we end up going the wrong direction.
"What the hell..." I mutter as the headlights grow closer, Collin chuckles, causing me to giggle as well.
"Come on babe just turn back into the right lane," he says huskily. I look over and see his eyes widening. Out of the corner of my eye I see the headlights grow closer and closer. Oh no.
I slam down on the brakes but it's too late. The car swerves and collides with the other one. Glass shatters and I'm thrown from the car before everything goes black.
~
"Well I want him arrested!" My mothers harsh whisper meets my ears. I keep my eyes closed as I listen to the conversation. My head hurts and so does my stomach, but not that much. It's just a dull throbbing. I feel numb.
"We need to talk to Violet," a mans voice says sternly.
"Well she's not exactly available for conversation right now," Jessie's voice says roughly.
"We need to be here when she wakes up," the previous mans voice demands.
"Why?" My mother says angrily, raising her voice above a whisper. "Don't you think our entire family has been through enough for one night!"
What does she mean? Where am I? I focus on the noise of steady beeping. Am I in a hospital? I struggle to remember the last thing that happened but come up blank. How did I get here? I mean I know I went to that party with Collin but everything is kind of blurry. Wait. Collin. I wonder where he is.
"I understand that things are difficult right now Mrs. Marks," the man replies softly, trying to calm my angry mother. That's no use though, when mom gets mad she gets mad. "But we cannot arrest Collin Franklin without talking to your daughter."
Why would they arrest Collin?! My eyes fly open and i blink away the light before focusing on the room. Yeah I'm definitely in a hospital. The beige walls are dreadfully boring the furniture looks sterile. And ugly.
My eyes travel to my mom, her blonde hair is pulled back in a haphazard ponytail and the wrinkles lining her face are more prominent than ever without makeup. Her eyes look red and puffy and her outfit looks as though she just threw it on quickly. She's clutching a wad of tissues and my brothers hand rests on her shoulder.
Jessie's still wearing plaid pajama bottoms and a university sweatshirt. His eyes look tired and puffy and he rubs moms shoulder soothingly. His curly hair is in disarray.
The man they are talking to looks to be about 50, his grey hair spreads out in tufts atop his balding scalp. He stands just a little bit shorter than Jessie, which is still standing quite a height above my petite mother. His bushy eyebrows are furrowed in concentration as he tries to reason with my hysterical mother. His cheap grey suit looks professional and I can't help but get the impression that he's a police officer.
"Jessie?" I say quietly. All their heads whip towards me and Jessie rushes to my side, picking up my hand and squeezing it gently.
"Violet Sage Rosalie Marks?" The unfamiliar man asks, walking to the other side of my bed.
"Yes," I whisper.
"I'm Officer David Cannon," he says in an all business tone.
"Okay?" Why is he here? Why am I here?
"Do you know where you are?" My mother asks softly, drawing my attention away from the detectives eyes.
"I'm in the hospital," I chance.
She nods and more tears spill out of her blue eyes. Jessie puts his arm around her and draws her closer to him in a side hug, still holding my hand with his other arm.
"Do you know why you're here sweetheart?" My mother sniffles.
"No," I breathe and shut my eyes momentarily.
"Violet darling," my mother pleads, forcing my eyes open. "You were in a car accident."
"I was?" I ask, looking down at my hospital gown clad body. Nothing hurts that much, well my stomach and head are still throbbing but not that horribly.
"Yes," my mother says. "You were thrown from the car," her voice shakes. "You had to have surgery on a large gash through your stomach."
"But I feel fine," she has to be lying. My hand flutters towards my stomach and I press down, finding what feels like a bandage wrapped around me.
"You're on a lot of painkillers right now," Jessie explains.
"Was anyone else hurt?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows. I know it must have been stressful for my mom to have to wait for me to get out of surgery and stuff but I'm okay, she's crying quite a bit.
"You were in the car with Collin," my mother says, avoiding my question.
"Where's dad?" I ask suddenly.
My moms eyes close tightly and I look to Jessie.
"You were in the car with Collin when you guys collided with dad's car," Jessie says blankly.
"Where's dad?!" I ask, a bit more hysterical.
"He didn't make it," Collin answers my question and a tear falls out of his eye.
"Oh god," I whisper.
"Don't worry baby," my mom says though she's sobbing. "We're going to get Collin thrown in jail. He walked away from the accident without a scratch and you're here while your dad is-" she's cut off by her own cries and I turn to look at the detective.
"Why are you here?" I ask rudely.
"Well Violet," he sighs. "It's come to my attention that you and your boyfriend were both intoxicated."
Well that explains why everything is one big blur.
"I guess," I respond and bite my lip nervously.
"I would just like to clarify with you that it was Collin who was driving the car," he says. "He can't remember the events of last night and we need your statement, especially if you would like to press charges against him."
I look at my mom as tears fall rapidly out of her eyes while Jessie attempts to comfort her. "Go ahead V," Jessie prods.
"Yes," I say strongly, turning back to the detective. "Collin was the one who was driving."
