She's Not Afraid

Chapter Two

Chapter Two

“I can’t believe you have two-fifths of One Direction’s personal numbers,” Megan said still reeling from the day before. I had showed her the messages after we said good night to the boys. “But then again they were both flirting with you.”

“They were not,” I protested sitting on the off-white leather sofa in the den.

Megan nodded her head sitting beside me in her matching gray sweats, “Well more so Liam than Harry. I bet he’ll text or call you today.” She said matter of fact like as my cell phone screen lit up. “I bet that’s him.”

“I bet it isn’t,” I said reaching for my phone. We were the only ones at the house. My older brother was out with his girlfriend and my parents were working.

Harry: Hey Brea.

Me: Hi…

Harry: Did I say something wrong?

Me: Oh no! I just didn’t expect you text me is all.

I groaned out loud and typed quickly. Megan peeped over my shoulder and smirked.

“I knew it was one of those UK boys,” she commented grabbing the remote.

“No, you said it would be Liam and he still has not…” I trialed off as another message window popped onto my screen. “Okay he just text me.”

Liam: Hey babe what are your plans for the day?

I was about to respond when I realized that I still hadn’t replied to Harry.

Harry: Why not? That’s insane. I didn’t go through the trouble of getting your number for nothing.

Me: Lol I guess not. So what’s up?

“You didn’t write Liam back,” Megan reminded me. I was internally grateful to her spying, but she would never know it.

Me: I do not have any.

Liam: Would you oppose to hanging out with me?

Me: Sounds like fun.

I switched to my conversation with Harry. This was a lot more confusing than usual and I text more than one person on a regular basis.

Harry: Just wondering if you want to hang out today?

Me: Liam just asked the same question. Sure. Come on over.

“Liam and Harry are on their way over here,” I announced. Megan jumped off the couch.

“What? I don’t even let Michael see me like this.” She said rushing out of the den. I looked behind her as my phone alerted me to the new text message.

Liam: We’ll be there soon…

After straightening up the den, I ran to my bedroom to change out of the old sweats. I settled on cut off blue jean shorts, black camisole with silver graphic designs, and black Vans. My hair was piled on the top of my head and I had no energy to fight with it.

“I thought you were changing?” I asked Megan who was still in the plan white tank and gray baggy sweats.

She shook her head, “Nope. I have no one to impress, but it’s a good thing you changed out of those ratty pajamas.” She smirked as the doorbell sounded. I rolled my eyes as I went to open the door. There was no pause for a breath, no last minute reflection check. I simply twisted the doorknob and leaned against the door.

“Hello babe,” Liam smiled at me. He was wearing a white t-shirt under an open blue flannel shirt and jeans. Harry stood behind him in a black V-neck and skinny jeans. “May we come in?” he asked.

“Of course,” I smiled stepping aside. They looked around the subtly decorated foyer. “This way fellas,” I led the way to the den on the left where Megan was sitting in the large, comfortable, brown suede chair staring at the TV. When she heard us enter she looked up and smiled.

“Hello,” Harry greeted her. “You look comfortable,” he commented.

Megan shrugged, “It’s a lazy day for us.”

“Only because everyone else left and we may not have the house to ourselves again all summer,” I added plopping down on the couch in the center. It was my favorite place to sit. Harry sat on my right as Liam sat on my left.

“Do you have a large family?” Harry asked curiously.

“It’s just my parents, my older brother, and me.” I reached for the remote off of the chest style table. Megan and I had been flipping through channels. “There’s basically nothing the telly on today.”

“Well what else is there to do?” Harry asked.

Megan stood suddenly, “Karaoke! There’s a place close by.” Harry and Liam exchanged a look, but before they could speak Megan sat down slowly as realization sank in. “That’s right you’re international sensations who can barely open a curtain without causing a riot.”

“Sorry,” the two-fifths of One Direction apologized.

I propped my feet up on the table, “Well this is a bust.”

Harry’s eyes widened as Liam yelled, “Replay.” I groaned as Megan laughed.

“You have to do it” Harry smiled diabolically. His green eyes were mesmerizing.

“Come on Bre,” Megan was bouncing in the chair with excitement. Reluctantly I played along. I repeated myself three times before they let me off the hook.

“Quick you have thirty seconds to declare your favorite song,” Megan exclaimed.

“Uh,” Harry and Liam stammered.

“Moments,” Harry decided.

I shook my head, “It can’t be your own song.”

“Darn it,” he said in defeat.

“No Air by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown,” Liam decided.

Megan laughed, “The one you played on repeat on Twitcam that time.” She shrugged carelessly, “I use to watch them religiously.”

“Remember that time he had one while we were in school?” I asked suddenly as the memory flooded back into my mind.

Megan’s eyes widened, “Yes! We were sitting in the back of biology watching it.”

“And Mrs. Holland kept shooting us daggers.”

“Then you squealed because he answered your question and everyone looked back at us,” Megan laughed.

“Oh my gosh that was so embarrassing. I had to pretend like a bug crawled on me.”

Liam laughed, “What?” I shook my head not wanting to go into further explanation.

“But you tweeted about it later and called me in near tears because Harry had followed you,” Megan continued.

Harry looked confused, “Wait, what?”

“Oh and then the reply to my DM,” I added nodding at the memory.

Realization struck, “You were the girl who said she rather watch Family Guy than Degrassi?” Harry asked sounding sure.

I nodded, “That would be me.”

“You watch Family Guy,” Liam nodded appreciatively “That’s cool.”

Megan rolled her eyes, “Yeah yeah, Brea is cool and all that jazz.”

I threw a decorative pillow at her, “Megan likes it better when she receives the attention.”

She threw the pillow back, “I like it, but not that much.”

“Replay,” Harry called. Megan folded her arms in refusal. She didn't take well to being the victim.

“Come on,” I whined. Our faces lit up at the same time.

“C’mon c’mon move a little loser now,” we sang at the same time. “C’mon c’mon ain’t no way you’re walking now. C’mon c’mon show me what you’re all about. Yeah I’ve been watching you all night. There’s something in your eyes saying c’mon c’mon and dance with my baby.” We were standing and dancing as well. The guys looked thoroughly entertained so we continued. We finished the song as they clapped.

“Thank you thank you,” Megan bowed.

“We’ll be here all summer,” I added taking my seat. Megan and I practically lived in a musical. Any word could cause us to sing and dance. It helped that our voices weren't displeasing to the ears.

“As entertaining as that was you still have to replay,” Harry reminded Megan.

“Shit,” she cursed before repeating what she had said before our musical number.

We spent several hours sharing stories, watching TV shows, and just having a good time. I decided to go grab some refreshments. As I searched the refrigerator I heard someone enter the kitchen. Assuming it was Megan I turned to the island and was surprised find Liam.

“Do you need help?” he asked.

I chuckled, “Well seeing as how I have collected virtually nothing,” I pointed out. “I think I got it covered.” I turned to the cabinets and began to rummage through them. I was reaching for a box on the top shelf and realized my five feet and two inches would not allow it. Liam came to offer his help, but I had already climbed on the counter top. I grabbed the box of cheese crackers and sat them on the counter leaning to far over and nearly falling onto the floor. Luckily Liam was there to catch me.

“Whoa,” he smiled as he sat me on my feet.

“Well there’s my klutz moment for the day,” I tried to shrug off my embarrassment looking up into his piercing eyes. “Thanks for saving me from total annihilation.”

Liam chuckled, “It’s no problem.” I suddenly became aware that we were in a corner and there was hardly any space between us. Liam took a small step forward, “You have nice eyes.” I blushed sweeping a strand of hair that was hanging loose behind my ear. I looked down, but Liam gently lifted my chin. My breath caught. I knew that look. He was so going to kiss me. Mentally I prepared myself for the moment that our lips would meet when suddenly.

“Brea what’s taking so long?” Megan asked barging into the kitchen. I slithered away from Liam and grabbed the snacks. I walked past Megan, who was standing in the entrance, and headed to the den. “What were you two doing?” she asked.

“Nothing. I have snacks,” I announced sitting the junk food down on the table.

“Mmm hmm,” Megan didn’t sound convinced as Liam came back into the den.

“I thought you two got lost,” Harry joked picking up a soda.

I chuckled forcefully, “Nope. Liam had to save me from my own klutziness.”

“Didn’t look like that was all he was doing,” Megan muttered.

“What was that?” Harry asked looking at her in amusement.

“Nothing,” Megan lied with a smile shooting me a look. I shrugged slightly and looked down. How was I supposed to explain what she walked in on? Oh yeah I almost hit my face on the floor so Liam decided to kiss it and make it better. Somehow I didn’t think that would work. Actually I didn’t know how to explain it myself. After thinking on it for a minute I wrote it off as being caught in the moment.
