Espy
Chapter 24
Niall's POV:
I sighed, pacing back and fourth across the living room. It'd been almost two months. Much, much too long. We couldn't expect Harry and the guys to agree to watch Espy much longer.
Zayn and Perrie seemed extremely drained. I refused too stop looking for Essence, and they supported me, following me around, attempting to look. But they were starting to seem distant, muttering slightly, looking bored.
I glanced out the window and gasped. The first snow had begun to fall. We'd been gone from England so long.
My mum came out of the kitchen into the living room.
"Dinner's ready Ni," she said, smiling jovially. "And look what I found, your old scrap book. It was hiding under your bed."
I snatched it away from her, blushing.
"Don't worry, I didn't look," she said, winking and smiling cheekily, then retreating into the kitchen.
My scrapbook was where I poured my hear and soul out.
I opened it up to the final entry, and my eyes unexpectedly filled with tears. It was a collage of old photos, like this, and this. Finally, there was the picture of Essy when I'd taken her to the winter ball, only a few weeks before she'd told me she was pregnant.
I wiped my eyes with the back of my hand and slammed the book shut. Around Essy's pictures, and there were many, many more, were her favorite sayings, our quotes, our hopes, our dreams.
Why in the world had I let her go? What had I been thinking?
And now she was dead.
Essence's POV:
It was a letter. A letter from Niall. It was a little worn, but it still looked new.
"What is it?" Eleanor demanded.
I looked over at her.
"I know where Niall is," I breathed my heart beginning to pound.
Eleanor rolled her eyes slightly, beginning to shiver as the sun set. It was getting really cold, and clouds had begun to block out the sun.
I wasn't going to show her the letter. It was for me.
"C'mon!" I insisted. "I know where he is! We can go now!"
Suddenly, she reached over and clamped her hand over my mouth. I froze. Voices.
"God DAMMIT!" A voice below said.
"They aren't here," another voice said.
"My knife," the first voice hissed. "That's how they got out. And they killed Lennie. I was sure she'd come hide here. It's the only place she knows."
Dear God. It was him. It was Jeremy. My head began to spin. Not again. He couldn't get us again. My eyes began to tear, and El took my hand and squeezed it, remaining silent.
"Look, the peaches," the second man whispered. El gasped.
"They were here," Jeremy hissed. "DAMMIT! GOD FUCKING DAMMIT WE MISSED THEM!"
Without another word Jeremy stormed away, the second man following cautiously. We head them mount a motorcycle and drive away.
I began to shake.
"He's going to find us," I said. Before I knew it, I was crying.
"Shhh," El said, patting me on the back. "You know where Niall is right? Maybe we can go find him."
I looked up as snow began to fall form the sky. Snow. Beautiful snow. I hadn't seen in six years. I was full on crying now. It was so beautiful. The world was so beautiful, the world I hadn't seen in so long.
Niall's POV:
Dinner passed as usual. Silent. Zayn and Perrie ate their food quickly, then retreated into the living room for whispered conversations.
I cleared my plate quickly, and went to join them.
"Niall," Perrie said finally, looking supremely uncomfortable.
"What," I said simply, playing with the binding of my scrapbook. I refused to set it down.
"I think me and Zayn need to go back to England. And I think..." She took a deep breath. "I think you need to too."
I glared at her. How dare she.
"Niall its been two months," she whispered. "Harry and Louis have been watching Espy without complaint. They hired a home tutor for her, so she doesn't have to go to school. I think it's time you go home and get to know her. Niall... Essence is gone."
I stared at her. The way she said it, made my heart break. She was gone.
I looked out the now dark window. The snow was falling this and fast now.
I sighed. "Alright," I whispered. "I know she's gone."
"Good," Perrie said. "I-"
A knock at the door cut her off.
I raised my eyebrows. It was nearly seven in the evening. Who wanted to stop by so late?
I got up and opened the door.
My scrapbook fell form my hands.
I'd seen a glimpse of Heaven.
