Espy

Chapter 19

Eleanor's POV:

I stared down at her.

"Essy," I breathed. "Essy it's okay."

She continued to stare straight ahead, not moving from the floor.

"We'll get out of here, he won't have the chance to kill you."

"I want to die," she whispered. "I want him to kill me."

I felt my eyes beginning to tear up. This poor girl. She'd done nothing, and here she was, abandoned by her parents, raped every night. Possibly abandoned by Niall, and pregnant at fifteen.

And what would happen to me if she died? Surely this man wouldn't keep me around much longer than she.

"But you've got to help me get out," I said, kneeling down beside her and putting my hand on her shoulder as the tears began to flow more quickly from her bloodshot eyes. "I can help you find Niall, we can find your daughter."

"We'll never find her," she sobbed, covering her face with her hands.

We sat in silence for a long time.

"I never wanted this," she whispered. "I never wanted to get pregnant, to be abandoned, ruined, but the damage is done. I never wanted to feel like my only way out was death."

"But we have another way out," I pleaded with her. "I can get us out. His knife, he dropped it. I picked it up and hid it while he was yelling at you a few minutes ago. When he's not home we can carve the locks out of the door. It's only wood. And then we can get out."

"Where are we though?" She said, finally removing her hands from her tearstained face. "How are we going to get anywhere?"

"Never mind that," I said, excited now that I finally had a plan, and Essy was really listening. "Look there's no way in hell anyone's going to find us if he's been getting away with this sort of thing for years. So we've got to get out ourselves."

She looked like she was really listening now.

"Do you think it would work?" She breathed.

"Positive, that knife is sharp as hell."

"When are we going to run for it?"

I was about to say now, when the door burst open.

Harry's POV:

"Espy! C'mon!"

She came running down the stairs, fast as her little legs could carry her.

"Uncle Hazza where are we going?" She said, her beautiful eyes staring up at me.

I reached down and picked her up, supporting her underneath with my right arm. He hair draped down past my arm, long and wavy. Louis had attempted to tie it back out of her face with a light pink ribbon to match her dress and sweater.

Well, at least he'd tried.

He'd been doting on her ever since she'd gotten here, and he was clearly her favorite. I think since he'd lost Eleanor he needed someone to love and care for.

Liam had been sort of in and out of the house. He'd gone back to stay at his place. Sometimes he'd bring by the managers of our next album to discuss lyrics and sounds, but mostly he'd moved out. He was the only one keeping things moving for the band, answering all the phone calls and fans, going to all the press to say One Direction was not breaking up, but simply taking a break because of the strenuous schedules. He promised to You Generation that 1D would be back the following spring, and that a new album was on the way.

Zayn and Niall still hadn't contacted us at all, not even replied to our text messages. We hoped they weren't dead, but I was pretty sure Niall's mum would've called if they'd gone missing.

Louis was like a deflated balloon. All the life and joy had seeped out of him. All he seemed to care about now was Espy. Which wasn't good because she was Niall daughter.

I turned and walked towards the door of my house, pulling it open with my free arm and stepping out into the sunshine.

"We're going to the bakery," I said, heading for my car. "You've been spending so much time with Louis lately, I thought maybe I should take you out somewhere nice."

She smiled vaguely and wrapped her arms around my neck as I lowered her gently into the backseat.

We arrived in the bakery ten minutes later. I smiled as I remembered the bakery I'd one worked in.

"What do you want?" I asked.

"A blueberry muffin please," she said softly, staring up at me nervously. I smiled back and ordered two, one for each of us.

We sat down at the table nearest the window.

"How's Louis?" I asked.

"Broken," she said simply.

I stared at her. The child was so intelligent, it was unnerving.

"But," she said, starting her muffin, "I promised him she'd come back."

I raised my eyebrows.

She looked at me, and smiled faintly. "She will," she said.

I began to eat my muffin to fill the awkward silence. Espy finished her quickly.

"Those flowers!" She squealed. Staring out the window. She jumped up and ran out.

I quickly rushed after her, standing over her protectively as she picked through the bushes, in case anyone tried to hurt her.

I looked around. There was an old man staring at her, very intensely. At first I was going to confront him, but then I saw he was painting her.

I sat down beside her, admiring her perfection as she looped the flowers together to make yet another headdress. She placed it on my head.

"Why thank you," I laughed.

She laughed too, a sound like an angel. Then she began to make another one.

The old man got up and walked towards us.

"Excuse me," he said politely. "But I couldn't help painting your lovely daughter." He held out the canvas to me, and my eyes popped out when I saw this.

"Wow she's so pretty," Espy said. I laughed.

"She? That's you."
