Chapter 10
Perrie's POV:
"Sweetie there's some crisps on the counter in the kitchen," I said tersely. "You can go have some if you'd like."
The little girl nodded at me, her eyes wide and fearful, yet somewhat excited. She hurried away, taking multiple brief glances at Niall as she went past.
"Perrie," Niall said through his teeth.
"What," I said defiantly.
"You said you had to go somewhere," he said, clearly seething. "I didn't think that meant to go ADOPT. MY. DAUGHTER."
"Let's go upstairs," I said quietly.
Niall looked ready to slap me, but he nodded and together him and Zayn followed me upstairs. Zayn looked totally lost. Surprise, surprise.
Niall turned to face me the minute we turned into his guest room. I closed the door behind me, very quickly so I could shut out the yells that were sure to come.
"Perrie..." Niall said, taking deep, calming breaths. "Why the hell would YOU ADOPT MY DAUGHTER??"
"Niall, hear me out," I pleaded. I was surprised when he sat down on the bed, folded his arms and looked at me, waiting for me to go on.
"I went straight back to the adoption center, because, I was pretty sure other people had noticed you in there interested in that girl. I was right to, as well, because when I'd returned five other random people were already applying to adopt her, because they knew they could get lots of money from you, if you wanted her that badly. I payed the desk lady a huge wad of cash so that she'd sign right then and call the lady to bring her for me to adopt. The foster mom looked quite pissed off that I wasn't you," I recalled laughing.
Niall looked at me, slightly less pissed off. Still he said nothing.
"You can adopt her from me and Zayn whenever you want," I said. "But Niall, this little girl, your her only parent left... and you abandoned her before she was even born. Honestly, you owe her."
Zayn seemed to come out of his confusion for a second. "Wat..." He said, squinting at me. "Adopt her from you and me?"
"Um... well yes," I said. "The adoption center wouldn't even consider handing her over to me until I said I was engaged to you... They don't approve of single parents."
"Perrie..."
"I'll take care of her, I'll take full responsibility," I begged.
"Per... were not talking about a dog here..."
"Niall when will you take her from us?" I asked, turning my head sharply in his direction.
"Not now," he said, stubbornly. "I'm going back to Ireland. I need to find Essence."
"What the hell..." I breathed. "This is too weird."
Niall looked like he'd made up his mind. "I'm going. As soon as possible."
I looked at him. This whole thing was insane. He was supposed to stay here and be helping write the songs for the next album. He couldn't just fly off to Ireland in search of a dead girl because some random child turned up.
"Ni...If your going... we're coming with you," Zayn said suddenly.
I looked over at him. He looked dead serious.
Niall looked less than enthusiastic. "I can go by myself."
"Niall this whole thing is crazy," I said. "You can't do this alone. Your going to need some moral support when- if... you can't find her. Plus how do you expect to look for her by yourself?"
I had no idea why I was volunteering to go to Ireland to look for a dead girl I knew we weren't going to find. Well Niall did need moral support.
"Who's going to take care of your new child?" Niall said stiffly. "She's not my responsibility. And you just adopted her. Are you really going to leave her behind? Because she isn't coming."
Oh don't play that shit with us Niall. I thought, rolling my eyes. "Louis and Harry and Liam can watch her."
"How are you going to explain to them that you suddenly have a five year old daughter?" He said, looking slightly nervous.
"Niall they're your best mates, you are going to tell them the truth," I snapped.
There was a pause.
"Fine," he said abruptly. "Let's get moving. We have a girl to find."
"Sweetie there's some crisps on the counter in the kitchen," I said tersely. "You can go have some if you'd like."
