District 2
“Niall Horan,” I said, “If you’re watching this, please remember the names Deedee Jones, Mira Bow, and Cindy Hawkers. They died for you.”
I will live for not only Cindy, but for all the fallen.
ZOE’S P.O.V.
I traveled along with my allies in silence, listening to the sound of Marley’s soft sobs behind us. We’re all too shaken up to say anything. We found a spot to unpack our life packs.
Nothing special, just a few basic supplies. Emily, Marley, and I talked a few times during it, mainly small sentences like “I like your water bottle” or “can I see that?”
“Guys, we have to get ourselves together.” Emily said, finally breaking the silence. “We need to get together as a team. Whatever’s happened has already happened, and we can’t do anything about it.”
“Your right,” I nodded in agreement, putting a hand on Marley’s shoulder, who is still sobbing quietly. “Come on, Marley. We have to stand back up again. Deedee would have wanted this.”
She nodded, wiping away a tear.
The sun is setting. We decided to skip dinner and go straight to sleep, since none of us were in the mood for a meal.
I climbed on a tree, Emily and Marley resting beside me and I strapped myself down. There are a couple of birds near us but it’s no harm. Soon, I was sound asleep.
Flap, flap, flap.
I feel something stabbing my face, ouch.
I opened my eyes sleepily, who the hell woke me up? In front of my face was a gigantic group of black birds, flapping their wings and pecking at my face. I hear screams beside me, Emily and Marley.
My eyes widened, I tried to swat them away but they kept pecking at my arms, my legs. Blood streamed down my cheek as one of them bit me really hard.
I was tempted to open my mouth and scream, but I know as soon as I do that, one of them will fly into my mouth and things will be fucked.
