“Pair up with someone you trust and go stand beside them.” The voice said.

I walked over to Cindy and linked my arms through hers and grinned excitedly.

“I repeat, eliminate your partner. Kill her.” The voice yelled.

ZOE’S P.O.V.

I looked at Cindy to find her looking back at me, her beautiful brown eyes stared back at my dull blue ones. My arm dropped.

She broke the silence my taking my hand.

“Zoe… Remember how we promised each other we wouldn’t blame each other if we have to kill?” She said as a tear trailed down her cheek. “I won’t be mad if you killed me.” She smiled and wiped away her tear. “And if you win… please stay alive and fight for me.” She looks up at me, “same thing goes for you too ok?”

I was sobbing like crazy but I managed to nod.

“So,” Cindy said, “friends forever?” She holds out her pinky.

“Forever.” I promised as I hooked my pinky into hers. I wiped my face and told myself not to cry.

We both grabbed a weapon from the center. She took a knife as I took a spear. She made the first move.

She tried to stab my stomach but I dodged and swung my spear at her. She ducked. I took this as a perfect opportunity and kicked her in the stomach. She fell over clutching the spot I just kicked and I jumped on top of her. I raised my spear, about to strike.

I can’t.

I lowered the spear and got up. I can’t stab my best friend.

“What are you waiting for?” She yelled at me, “hurry up!”

I shook my head. I can’t.

“Fucking coward!” She screamed at me. “You’re so lame you’ll never make it through this! Even if you do, Niall will never honor you! You’ll never be his princess! I only became friends with you cuz I thought you were brave. But in reality you’re just a stupid coward.”

“STOP!” I yelled at her.

“Oh whatcha gonna do? Drown me in your tears?” She mocked me, “Oh no, I’m such a big fat loser! Boohoohoo!”

“STOP IT!” I screamed and stabbed her as hard as I can with my spear.

She crumpled to the ground as I realized what just happened. She did that so I would be angry. So I would have the courage to do what I just did.

She did it for me.

I kneeled beside her, crying again.

“I’m sorry” I sobbed.

“Don’t be,” blood is gushing out of the wound. I can’t believe I just stabbed my best friend. Her face is pale and sweaty. “Fight for me ok?” She smiled bravely.

I nodded, unable to speak. Watching your best friend die in front of you and realizing that you had made this happen is the worst thing in the world.

“Tell Niall I died for him,” she smiled one last time before her body went limp.

“I will…” I whispered but she wasn’t there anymore.

A hand tapped my shoulder. I turned around and saw that it was Emily. Judging from her puffy eyes, she went through the same thing I did.

“Hey,” she said, her voice shaking. “You did it?”

“Yeah,” I replied, “you too with Mira?”

She nodded, “yeah, let’s get out of here. This is bullshit. I can’t believe we had to do this.”
I nodded and grabbed a life pack as Emily walked into the jungle. Everyone around us looks pretty shaken up too so nobody was in much of a mood to fight anymore. Marley joined us. She was sobbing like crazy. It seemed like it was hard killing off Deedee too.

I took one last look at Cindy’s fallen body before I went towards the jungle with Emily. Then I said towards the nearest camera, which is secured on a pine tree.

“Niall Horan,” I said, “If you’re watching this, please remember the names Deedee Jones, Mira Bow, and Cindy Hawkers. They died for you.”

I will live for not only Cindy, but for all the fallen.
