Broken Glass Slipper

R U Mine?

Niall's Point of View

I parked in my usual spot at the daycare. Getting out of my car, I walked around the side of the building until I reached the back gate. I sat down on the cold concrete, and pulled out my phone, content to wait for my lovely girl.

After a moment, the back door opened, so I locked my phone and looked up, smiling, only to see Mary slumped against the door frame.

"Hey, Mary," I said, slowly getting up. "Where's Emma?"

Mary shook her head. "I don't know," she whispered, "I called, but her step-mom answered and said that she wouldn't be working for me anymore."

I coughed, trying to think of what to say. "Well, where could she be?"

Mary burst into tears, "I don't know! Felicity said that Emma had been disposed of, and that it was likely that I'd never see her again!"

I took in a shocked breath. "No. She has to be here somewhere. I'm going to go look for her," I said determinedly, pivoting and throwing the gate open.

I refused to just let her go. She's the only girl I know who liked me, but didn't scream and jump on me when she saw me.

The whole day, I ran around London, and Holmes Chapel. There wasn't any sign of the blue-eyed angel I had grown so attached to.

I got to the hotel room the boys and I were sharing, and immediately went to my room, locking the door, and ignoring the demanding shouts of everyone.

I turned my music on, skipping tracks until I found the song I was looking for, and put it on repeat. The words of "R U Mine?" filled my head, and the steady rock beats of Arctic Monkeys filled my ears.

Curling up on the floor, I listened to the song over and over, until I drifted off into a restless sleep.

---

"Emma? Emma! Mary, what's happening?" I screamed, cradling Emma in my arms.

"You've brought back a memory," Mary answered glumly.

"I did what? Wait-"

"Niall, you've done enough. Calm down, and let me wake her," Mary said, pulling me away, and crouching down next to Emma.

Mary shook Emma's arm, and Emma finally opened her eyes. I grinned. She's okay. Mary looked at Emma, a solemn expression on her face.

"You okay, Em?" She asked cautiously.

Emma nodded, her eyes flicking over to me, and flicking back to the ground she sat on.

Mary helped her stand and walked her to a car.

"Wait! Emma, I-"

"Niall..." She cut me off, closing her eyes and turning away.

"Emma. Please let me see you again. I'm in England for two more months. Please," I pleaded, my eyes widening, and filling with tears that I wasn't ashamed to let go of.

Emma glanced at Mary who gave her a look. Emma sighed, and said, "Where would you see me? I have no place safe enough. Even here isn't safe."

Suddenly, a cloaked figure came out of the shadows, and began to pull Emma away. I began to run after her, but Mary held me back, stone faced. I stood there, sobbing, as the shadow punched and pinched my Emma, dragging her away.

---

I woke up in a cold sweat, screaming and crying. I turned my music off, and covered my face in my hands.

I can't do this. I need to find Emma.

I got up, got dressed in the first thing I found, and left without talking to anyone.

I went to the park and sat down on the bench I had talked to Emma on, about a month before. It seemed like ages ago. I frustratedly fisted my hands in my hair, and bent over, setting my elbows on my knees. I felt tears prick my eyes, and I quickly blinked so they wouldn't show.

"Niall!" I heard five pairs of feet pounding the pavement behind me. I looked up, wishing they would go away.

"Hey, Lads. How's it goin', Paul?" I mumbled, turning away.

"Niall," Paul interrupted, "You're leaving for Ireland. It'll be good for you."

Emma's Point of View

"So, honey, how did you end up in Ireland?" Maura asked.

"Oh, I-uh, I'm... Visiting my parents," I quickly responded, silently questioning my reasoning for following Maura into her house.

"Oh? How nice!" Maura exclaimed. "I wish my son would come around more often. However, he's doing some amazing things. Surely you understand my internal battle, wanting him go come home, but wanting him to continue being the amazing boy that he is. You know my son, don't you?"

I slowly shook my head, a sheepish smile surfacing.

Maura looked confused before proceeding to say, "My son is Ni-"

The telephone rang.

Maura politely excused herself, and answered it.

After a few moments of staring at the flowered couch, Maura came back into the room, beaming.

"I've just received the most lovely news!" Maura exclaimed. "My son is coming home! His flight comes into the airport in about half an hour, which gives me just enough time to leave, so I can pick him up," she finished, mainly talking to herself.

I smiled, standing up. "I guess that's my cue to leave," I said, shifting my glance over to the door.

"Oh, why don't you come with me!" Maura said, wrapping her arm around my shoulder. I gently moved away, nodding to avoid any tension.

"Sure," I said. It's not like I have anything better to do, I reasoned to myself.

Maura and I got into her car, and she managed to fill the entire thirty minute drive with her excitement. I sat quietly in the passenger seat, nodding, saying "yeah", and letting her enjoy her happiness.

We finally arrived, and once the car was parked, Maura speed walked to the airport pick up. I had to jog to keep up.

There were many photographers present, which made me wonder who was arriving that was so important.

Maura squealed suddenly, and gave some tall, blond man the biggest bear hug possible for her hight. I assumed this was her famous son. They began talking, Maura's face a shining beacon of joy. Suddenly I heard Maura say, "Come meet this girl over here. She's very nice!"

I looked up to see familiar blue eyes.

"Emma?"

Notes

Yeah, I know it's a bit short, but I was so excited, I just had to update!!!

So, what has been your favorite part since the beginning of the story? I know it's not that far along yet, but hopefully you have one part that you like more than the other parts. So, what's yours?

On a side note, Broken Glass Slipper has been nominated for Best Niall Fic and Best Fic on an awards story. I'd like to thank @HarryTheCupcake and @kiss-my-sass for nominating me.

Thank you to those who responded with their opinion on the chapter titles, and for now, I think I'll keep it as the song titles.

Also, my grades are somewhat... Lacking. So, if my updates are a bit sporadic, that is why.

Thank you all so much for your support!

Love,
PickNandos
