Hate Love

Introduction

“Two separate girl groups from in different countries on a version of the same reality competition show and they both placed second. Some would call that destiny.” Announced the ominous voice as a picture of ME2 and Head Start appeared on the screen. “When Melanie Ortega and Erin Newsom auditioned for the X-Factor USA they had no idea that they would end up with counterparts Ava Parks and Kaylee Emmanuel who auditioned for the X-Factor UK.”
The year was 2011 and the four girls all had the same goal, to become a pop sensation. In the States Melanie and Erin were grouped with two other girls (Megan Smith and Eshleigh Howard) to form ME2. In the UK Ava and Kaylee were grouped with Nicole Grimshaw and formed Head Start. Both groups made it far on the reality series with the four girls being crowd favorites in their respective groups. In December of 2011 ME2 was announced as the first runner up for that season of X-Factor USA. Three days before Head Start took the same crown. They were all on the rise.
“Then my grandmother died,” the dark haired fair skin African American young woman informed the viewing audience as she sat in front of the drop screen in the director’s style chair. “It was the most devastating time in my life. I was so confused. ME2 was on the rise but I had lost the only family I had.”
“Melanie Ortega was raised in a single parent home by her late maternal grandmother. It was her grandmother who pushed her to audition for the X-Factor and pursue her dreams in music.”
“Instead of being there for her like should have,” the skinny blonde began, “we were too busy trying to figure out if the group could go on without her. Because Melanie didn’t want to do it anymore but Megan, Eshleigh, and myself still wanted it all.”
The answer to their question was no. However, in the UK Head Start was facing their own downfall as member Nicole decided she wasn’t up for the life of a musical celebrity as well.
“She quit as soon as the red light on the camera turned off.” The dark haired Italian decent dancer commentated.
“I can remember feeling so betrayed because I knew that we couldn’t go on without her.” The dyed red head added as recalled that fateful day.
“Ava Parks and Kaylee Emmanuel were left hopeless. Without Nicole their future was unknown.”
The four girls all suffered their cursed fate alone until 8 February 2012. It would forever be the day that changed everything.
Ava shook her red head as she spoke, “My mum called me downstairs and she held the phone out to me and she said ‘It’s someone from the X-Factor’.” She narrated the memory easily.
“I took the phone from my sister and I was nervous because I just knew it wasn’t any good news.” Erin gave her own perspective. Initially when the girls were approached about doing a “True Story” documentary they had rejected the idea. However their manager convinced them to accept and now they were happy to do it.
Kaylee folded her arms, “I listened to some woman I didn’t know offer to fly me to London for some life changing meeting and I thought to myself ‘This is complete rubbish’.”
“Honestly it’s not every day that an Alabama girl gets offered a free trip to London.” Melanie were a humored smile. “It had to be too good to be true.”
But it wasn’t. At the meeting the girls were informed that they were each individually chosen to become a new group and that they would make their premiere on the X-Factor UK tour.
“Hesitantly Melanie, Ava, Kaylee and Erin allowed the representatives of Syco Music Label to usher them to a quaint London home where they were to stay.”
“We were leaving the building on this beefy guy who looked like he could take out any professional athlete came up to us and said he was hired to be our personal security detail.” Ava spoke, “We were just like why do we need security no one knows who we are.”
“When we stepped outside there were so many people holding signs, poster, t-shirt. It was crazy.” Kaylee’s voice sounded over a collage of pictures and videos from that day.
“They were screaming we love you Melanie!”
“We love you Ava!’
“We love you Kaylee!”
“We love you Erin!”
“WE LOVE MAKE!” The actual clip of the crowd cheering for the forming girl group was shown.
“Not only did the fans have pictures they had music as well.”
“The four of us had never sung together, but ME2 and Head Start both performed the same song for the live finale.” Erin expounded.
“What was crazy was that the parts Erin and I didn’t sing in our group Ava and Kaylee sung in theirs so Syco took the pieces and mashed them together.”
“There was this recording of us covering Dangerously In Love by Beyoncé, but we had never sung it together.” Ava’s voice volume rose with excitement.
“You hear the fans say that it was debuted on the radio the week before any of us were in London and you’re just amazed.” Kaylee gave her thoughts on the event at that time.
M.A.K.E was already a household name before they were even a group. Agreeing to give it a try, all four girls spent the next six weeks rehearsing and learning about each other in time for the tour. They never seemed have a moment of rest and they never complained.
“We were too frightened that just as fast as the opportunity had come, it could leave once again.”
“But M.A.K.E wasn’t going anywhere any time soon. The week they were set to leave for tour they were presented with another unexpected opportunity.”
“Simon Cowell himself sat us down and said, ‘I want to sign you.’” So we agreed and that same day we recorded an original song for the first time ever together.” Melanie’s eyes glistened as she recalled the day.
On the very last day of the tour Hit Right Here by M.A.K.E was played on the radio for the very first time. The four girls were officially linked together.
“We were heading to the last venue when we heard the music and all let out a collective yell.”
“There was jumping and shouting. Kaylee even pulled a muscle trying dance in the van.”
“We were all in the big group hug with tears running down our faces and some odd understanding.”
“Looking at Ava, Erin, and Mel I knew that this was legitimately my future and I was determined to not lose it again.”
“Little to any of the girl’s knowledge not only had they premiered in the UK, but radio stations in the States as well were blasting Hit Right Here on a daily basis. M.A.K.E went down in history as the first girl group to make an international debut at number one. They were compared to label mates One Direction. Fans requested a collaboration from the two groups.”
But certain members of the groups got much more than they ever asked for.

Notes

As a part of the reqriting phase that I am going through I decided to add an introduction detailing the creation of M.A.K.E. Clearly this is much different then what I originally wrote, but I hope you all still enjoy it.
