They Don't Know About Us

Chapter 24

*Justice's P.O.V*
We arrived to a silent apartment. Harry and Niall ignored it going to the living room. Aerial made herself comfortable on the couch picking up the remote straight away. I remembered seeing Katie's car in the parking lot and went to her bedroom. Softly I rapped my knuckles on the door.
“Come in!” She called in a thick voice.
Cautiously I entered the messy room searching for her. I found her curled up on her bed with a roll of tissue. “What's wrong?” I asked closing the door behind me after noticing her tear soaked cheeks.
“Jonah broke up with me.” She cried. Her cheeks were red and stained from fallen tears.
I gasped, “What? Why?” I asked moving further into the bedroom.
“He said there's someone else!” Katie angrily threw the picture of the two of them off her nightstand. It hit the wall with a thud. “That jackass. I gave him an overall year of my life and he tells me there's someone else. You were right.” She was fuming with emotions.
I shook my head. “This may surprise you, but I didn't like him anyways.” I sighed taking a seat on the foot of the bed. Sure I played nice with her boyfriend, ex-boyfriend, but I had told her from the start that I was wary of him. “Okay, no, this crying and feeling sorry for yourself thing has got to stop.” I said taking away the tissue and the bucket of ice cream I just noticed she had.
“Hey! Give that back.” Katie demanded.
I shook my head. “No, you will not mope over some douche who broke up with you on a holiday.”
“After my family fed him.” She added.
I nodded my head. “Exactly! You should come to LA when we go tomorrow. The guys have to work, but we can find something to do. I'm sure I can convince Aerial to give up her ticket.” I suggested with an optimistic smile.
Katie shook her head. “No, I have to work.” She declined my offer. “I'm just going to stay in bed and be depressed.”
I groaned, “Only for today because it's a fresh hurt.” She nodded. I stood up exasperated. “I'll go make some cookies.” I announced.
“With chocolate chips?!” Katie asked. My shoulders shrugged as my head nodded. “You're the best Jay!”
“Why is she the best?” Harry asked suddenly standing in the doorway with Niall behind him.
“I'm going to make her food to help her get over a break up.” I explained as Katie groaned reached for the roll of tissue on her bed.
Harry looked to Katie a bit surprised. “That Jonah bloke ended your relationship?” He asked as if I hadn't just told him that in a different arrangement of words.
“Obviously,” she mumbled looking around for something unknown.
“Oh, that's tough.” Harry was scratching his head clearly unsure of what to say.
I pushed him back stopping him from entering the room. “You are not helping.”
Niall stepped forward. “Are you crying?” He asked Katie. “You shouldn't cry. The guy must be an idiot if he broke up with you.” His words made a wet eyed Katherine smile weakly.
“Awww,” I coed placing my hands on my chest over my heart and wearing a sappy expression. I turned to Harry suddenly. “Now that's how you make a girl feel better about being dumped.”
“That's why Niall is everyone's favorite.” I looked to the right noticing the One Direction poster on Katie's wall. I took a step forward, then backward and behind Harry peaking around him.
“What are you doing?” He asked as he, Niall, and Katie gave me strange looks.
“Zayn always stares at me and it is creepy.” I hissed eying the poster like it would jump off the wall and come to life.
Niall looked to the wall and smiled. “Hey! I remember taking that one!” He claimed.
Harry looked back at me. “I still don't understand why you're hiding behind me.”
Straightening my stance I placed my hands on my hips. “I'm not hiding. I'm testing a theory.”
“Which is?” He asked expectantly as if waiting on some awesome explanation to my odd behavior.
“That his eyes follow me literally everywhere.” Harry glanced back and the poster and then to me. He did this twice before shaking his head. He shrugged his shoulders walking back towards my room. I glanced back at Katie rolling my eyes and following after my boyfriend. “Have you packed for tomorrow?” Harry asked well aware of my procrastination habit. I nodded my head in response and tapped my suitcase which was standing in an empty corner. “That's a big suitcase. We'll only be in LA for two days.”
“Yes, but we're flying to London right afterward and if I'm going to be your date for the American Music Awards, then I need to look cute.” I reminded him. “I need enough clothes for at least a week.” I waited for him to argue, but he didn't have one. Victoriously I smiled taking a seat on the foot of my bed. “Thank you for inviting me by the way.”
Harry looked up from searching for something in his suitcase and smiled showing his dimples. “You know if I could take you everywhere with me, I would.”
I laughed shaking my head. “That's really sweet, but you would get tired of me.”
He leaned over kissing my cheek. “Never.”

*Harry's P.O.V*
Waking Justice up the next morning was not easy. She had stayed up late packing and then talking with her sister who eventually fell asleep. She was attempting to bribe her best friend into a late night run to McDonald's when I forced her into her room urging her to sleep. Yet the three cups of coffee and two slices of chocolate cake hadn't left her system just yet. While I slept peacefully she did everything she could to entertain herself until exhaustion kicked in. I'm not sure what time she went to sleep, but I know it was six o'clock in the morning when I began my attempt to wake her.
It started with a soft kiss on her forehead. She swatted me away with a groan. Chuckling I pulled back her covers exposing her to the cold of her bedroom. For an iron deficient anemic, Justice liked it Alaska cold when she slept. She shivered violently and forced the covers back onto her body. That's when things got interesting.
“Come on love you've got to wake up.” I coaxed hoping that would be enough to motivate her.
Justice groaned, “Go away Harry. I need sleep.”
I chuckled sitting on the foot of the bed and placing a hand on her covered body. “You can sleep on the flight and during the drive to the airport.” Her head shook not satisfied with my offer. “You can even use my chest as a pillow.” I bargained.
“Promise?” She mumbled in a voice drowning with sleepiness.
A smile coated my lips. “I promise.” Slowly Justice pulled back the covers and sat up. She rubbed her eyes for a moment looking more adorable than ever before. I waited patiently until I could see her brown orbs and sent her a wide smile. “Come on, you've twenty minutes.” I stood offering her a hand. Ed climbing out of bed rather hesitantly. While she showered and dressed I pulled both of our suitcases to the door. Niall and Aerial were found at the kitchen table eating pancakes. I looked between the both of them.
“I was going to eat some cereal.” Niall explained.
“But I was already cooking breakfast.” Aerial added with a shrug. She walked over to the microwave pulling out a plate with a nice sized stack of pancakes and holding up a black spatula. “Do you want some?” She questioned looking to me. I nodded moving to fix my own plate, but Aerial (much like her sister) beat me to it. While we were sat at the table, Justice emerged looking refreshed.
“You look nice.” I complimented kissing her cheek as she took a seat beside me at the table.
“Thank you,” she gave a brief smile before snatching my fork and cutting herself a piece of the syrupy breakfast. “Mm, Sissy you must have made these. I can taste the vanilla.” She commented looking to her younger sister.
Niall chuckled, “You can recognize her cooking?”
Justice snorted, “Aerial uses vanilla like I use cinnamon.” She explained vaguely. We quickly finished breakfast and left the flat.
Driving to the Huntsville International Airport took a bit over an hour. We were in Justice's silver Isuzu Rodeo, because it had the most room. Niall and Aerial were sharing the back seat, but Justice was curled up in the passenger sleeping soundlessly. I hated to wake her up, but I had to so that we could get through security and board the plane on time. She was grouchy and fell asleep as soon as we were seated on board. Flying to LAX wasn't an issue. We made it through security and on board without a problem. However, leave LAX to go to the hotel was not easy. There were fans waiting and paparazzi flashing cameras. I held onto Justice's hand guiding her to the waiting black SUV. She was walking with her head down subconsciously playing with her hair with her free hand. Behind us other security personnel were guiding Niall and Aerial who had her ear buds in drowning out the screaming fans with music.
“What's wrong?” I asked Justice when we were in the back of the SUV driving to the hotel. She shook her head looking out of the window. I reached for her hand pulling her closer to me. 'You're lying.” I spoke knowing her too well.
She sighed, “Yeah I am.” Justice admitted. It was serial habit of hers. Whenever she lied she either confused guiltily within two seconds or you could tell her she was lying and she would immediately agree. In other words my girlfriend was basically always honest.
“So tell me what's wrong.” I pressed wanting to know what she was thinking.
“Nothing is wrong. I just saw the disappointed looks on the girls faces who were waiting there. You didn't stop for them like usual and I've noticed that you hardly ever do when I'm with you.” She answered looking towards me.
“I have to make sure you get out safe.” I explained. Justice pursed her lips. “What?”
“I can take care of myself. Don't ignore your fans just to make sure I make it to a car or building.” Her voice was sincere letting me know this was important to her.
I studied her face and found no traces of deception. “I know you can take care of yourself.” I responded. She was doing fine before I met her. “But I would to help you so to speak.”
Justice pulled her hand away slowly looking to the window once again. “It's not your job Haz.”
“It could be.” I countered. My eyes widened as I silently prayed that I hadn't given too much away. This was definitely not how I wanted to propose to her. Yes, I knew wholeheartedly now that I wanted to ask her to marry me, but I also knew Justice. She wanted the permission from her dad and blessing from her mother. I wanted it for us as well.
“Harry,” Justice sighed looking ready to argue.
Shaking my head I pulled her back to me placing my arm around her shoulders. “Let's discuss this later.” I suggested as she laid her head on my shoulder. Justice nodded as the drive continued to the hotel. I smiled looking down at her. This was what I wanted the rest of my life to be like. I wanted to fall asleep with my arms wrapped around her wake up with her head on my chest. She was perfect for me.
