They Don't Know About Us

Chapter 20

*Justice's P.O.V*
Harry flew back to London the next day after he met my dad's side of the family, who surprisingly liked him. Even my brother Errin, the Navy Seal sniper, thought he was a good guy. My dad took the longest to warm up to him, but I was daddy's little girl. He didn't like the idea of me dating anyone. I couldn't remember him ever being fond of any boyfriend that I ever had (not that I had many).
Now here it was two weeks later. One Direction were touring in Australia so Harry and I talked from time to time. It was hard to talk everyday with the major time difference. Like him being basically a day ahead. Of course majority of our conversation was of me counting down the days until I saw my one true celebrity crush, Selena Gomez, live in concert. Harry would chuckle and act as if his girlfriend being in love with another girl was completely okay. He was more than likely patronizing me.
“What if she sees me and doesn't like my outfit?” I asked one day while we were video chatting. His green eyes rolled. “Seriously Haz! This could be the moment that decides rather or not I'm going to be Mrs. Selena Gomez.” I fussed. My eyes darted to the poster of the singer taped onto my wall. It was one from her Neo Collection photo shoot. She was laying on the floor with her head thrown and smoldering the camera. Katie got it for me knowing that I swoon as soon as my eyes landed on it. It hung right above my One Direction poster circa those 'Live While We're Young' days. Harry had taken the liberty of autographing it.
“I'm pretty certain you aren't.” He commented totally killing my optimism and bringing me back to our conversation.
A frown coated my full lips, “Why?” I asked. “She could be into that sort of thing. Have you seen 'Spring Break'?” Granted it wasn't my favorite movie featuring the Mexican starlet, but I had watched it solely because my girl was in it. James Franco freaked me out the whole time and Vanessa Hudgens made me cringe a lot, but I enjoyed every bit of Selena for the maybe twenty minutes I had her.
“You aren't marrying Selena because you're marrying-” He stopped talking and cleared his throat awkwardly. “How are your courses going?” Harry asked changing the subject.
My shoulders shrugged. “They're fine. My public administration class is killing me. Kelsey and I spend every night at the library.” I answered in a bummed voice now thinking about the assignment I had due at midnight. Gosh the life of a pre-law student was entirely too demanding. I had even cut back on my hours at work and it still seemed as though I didn't have enough time. I definitely didn't have enough money.
“Kelsey, that's the one who got drunk and tried to do her chemistry work, but ended up crying about being a life failure, right?” I nodded. Harry's first time meeting my college friends had been an interesting one. Monica, the Mexican of the group, had invited us to a bonfire at her boyfriend's friend's house and we all forgot about the stresses of life for a few hours. Then Kelsey, after having ten too many shots of pure Vodka, remembered her chemistry report due the next day and began to panic. I suggested that she sober up so that she could work on it. She did work on it, but she wasn't sober. After ten minutes of staring at her laptop screen blankly, she broke down into sobs claiming that she had failed at life and would have to be a stripper. Needless to say that the night came to an end after that. “She was interesting to meet.” Harry mused glancing to his left at something I couldn't see. His face lit up with a smile. As he leaned towards the direction. “Come here,” He called opening his arms. Seconds later a small blonde head was seen before Lux's face was on my screen.
I smiled, “Hey Lux!” She waved and I waved back. “She's so cute.” I gushed still smiling. My eyes glanced towards the clock on the right corner of my screen that said I had ten minutes to get to my meeting on campus. “Oh, Haz I have to go.” I announced as my eyes widened slightly. “If I'm late again, Will and James will actually kill each other.” I added. I was a part of a committee focused on teaching younger kids the ways of the world, government, and things of that nature. Actually I was head of the committee, every since the mock election we put on for three elementary schools last year, but my co-heads were polar opposites who tended to jump down each others throats every day. “I'll talk to you later.”
“Okay, be careful.” Harry smiled as we ended the chat. I quickly changed out of my black knee length sweatpants and plain white tank into a pair of red jeggings, black and white flannel button down, and black combat boots. I chose to brush my hair back into a ponytail and only wear one pair of earrings in my heavily pierced ears.
“Ready to go?” I asked Shardai after entering the living room. This would be the last meeting she attended since she was going back to Tuscaloosa next week.
“Yeah girl,” she nodded. “Just let me do my hair.” I groaned taking a seat on the couch. It could take her forever to do her hair. Yet I didn't protest when she walked off to the bathroom. I messaged my friend Carson and let her know that I would be at least five minutes late. Besides me, she was the best one to keep the bears away.
Carson: Lol okay I'll keep the lions in their cage.
A laugh from her reply escaped my lips as I quickly typed out a response. After I had hit send, I grabbed the remote deciding to be entertained while I waited. I hardly paid attention to the TV while scrolling on tumblr. My dash was covered in pictures of Harry. Girls gushed over how great he looked in the Australian sun. A smile coated my lips as I looked at a particular picture of him. This guy could always make me happy even from miles away.

*Harry's P.O.V*
“Okay thanks mate.” I ended the call with Mark, from our management team, smiling.
“No ones that happy talking to management.” Louis mused looking at me warily. “What's up?” He questioned.
My shoulders shrugged. “Mark helped me plan something for Justice.”
He nodded, “Oh, that's why you're smiling. Harry's trying to have sex.” Sometimes Louis was more blunt than anyone cared for.
Zayn chuckled, “Give the lad credit. He knows what he's doing.” He slung an arm around my shoulders and wore a teasing smile.
“Who knows what they're doing?” Liam asked entering the hotel room. We had a show tonight and were supposed to be resting. We weren't.
“Harry's doing something nice for his bird so he can get-”
I cut him off shaking my head. “Come on Lou.”
Liam laughed ruffling my hair. “Oh yeah, the kid knows what he's doing.” He gave an unconvincing nod before plopping down on the bed and crossing his legs. They enjoyed giving me a hard time because I was the youngest one in the group. As we got older, it got worse. “What did you do?” He asked.
“Nothing big really.” I answered. “She's going to a concert this week and I changed her tickets.” That was half of the truth, but they didn't need to know the rest. Zayn had a habit of telling Perrie everything and Perrie and Justice we're quite good friends now.
Louis shrugged, “I don't think that'll get you laid mate.” My eyes rolled and he held up his hands. “I'm joking.” He assured me.
“Yeah, I don't know how she's going to react though.” I thought verbally. I was learning that Justice didn't like big notions so much. She would take them with a smile and typically not say anything, but she much rather be given something small.
“Well, if it's anything to do with Selena, then you'll be fine.” Niall commented with a carefree shrug as he sat on my right. “She's obsessed with her.” I chuckled and nodded my head in agreement. He was right. Justice would be a little hesitant about this surprise at first, but once the second part came she would forget everything. I just wished I could be there to see her face light up in excitement. No doubt her deep brown eyes will widen as her mouth pops open in an 'O'. I can already imagine the tears pooling in the corner of her eyes that she will shake away furiously before collecting herself and trying to act like she hadn't noticed her hands shaking. Katie will have a hard time pulling her away, but it's worth to know that I'm the one who made her happy.

*Justice's P.O.V*
“Okay, before we get in the car and drive two hours to another state, you need to get any and all screams because if you distract me from driving I will be highly pissed off.” Katie warned as we stood in the living room of our apartment. She was dressed in a pair of black skinny jeans, gray and black stripped sweater, and black combat boots. Her ginger hair was curled to perfection by me and she had lined her blue eyes although they were hidden behind her rakish wide framed glasses.
I tugged at my plain thin red t-shirt which I had paired with a pair of black Harem parachute pants and jean jacket with black leather sleeves. “I'm fine Katherine.” I assured her with a slight nod of my head. My extended hair was curled into deep waves with a Chinese bang.
“Are you sure? I saw you cry because of her performance at Dancing With the Stars.” Mary-Ann, my youngest friend, asked warily. She wore black leggings with a cloud pattern, black oversized quarter sleeve blouse, and a pair of Ugg boots. Her blonde hair was in a fishtail braid hanging to the right. Once again I nodded my head.
“She just wants to get on the road.” Katie commented knowing me so well.
“I really do!” I admitted. “What if I catch a glimpse of her going into the arena or hear her rehearsing? Katie my life would be made. Please don't keep me away from this.” I begged shamelessly.
“Fine,” she grumbled leading the way out of the apartment. We walked to her white Hyudai and piled in. I took the front passenger seat immediately syncing my cell phone and playing the playlist that I had created for this special occasion. “This is going to be a long car ride.” Katie groaned while I sung along enthusiastically to Emblem 3, they were opening for Selena.
“I would suffer through the same for you if it was Demi.” I reminded her. Katie's obsession with Demi Lovato was like mine for Selena Gomez. Actually hers may have been worse. She knew for fact that hers started back during the Barney days. All I could remember was waking up one morning years ago and wanting to know Sel's every move. We were unhealthy fans, but we knew where to draw the line. Most of the time.

*Harry's P.O.V*
I stole a glance at my watch and smiled to myself. Justice would be at the Bridgestone Arena. I wondered if the switch had already been made. It was morning here and I knew soon we would be on the move for the show tonight. I wasn't sure rather or not Justice would call. I knew she wouldn't call after the tickets were given to her. I had made sure it seemed like she won some ridiculous contest. Seeing as how I hadn't technically talked to her today, I decided to send her a message.
Harry: Hiiiiii hope you have fun at the concert.
I pressed rolling over to look on the clock on the nightstand of the hotel room. I was half after six o'clock and I was wide awake. This never happened, but I knew by the time I fell back asleep they would be banging on my door telling me to get up. So I threw the covers off my body and got of bed. I stretched my long limbs before making my way to the shower. After I was dressed it occurred to me to check my mobile. There was a SMS waiting from Justice. I smiled as I read it. Phase one of my plan to surprise had worked.
Justice: I won a contest for a ticket upgrade. Front row!!! SELENA COULD NOTICE ME!
A laughed made its way past my lips as I thought of a response that wouldn't give me away. I was terrible at surprises. Always letting them slip before time. It was why I was hardly ever told secret plans. When the lads snuck off somewhere. I learned about it from someone else. This was the longest I had gone ever. Then again I had a feeling that I could do a lot of things for Justice. She made me want to simply because she didn't want me to. She just wanted me, Harry, the kid from Cheshire. The kid who had unruly hair and talked annoyingly slow and hated to see people not have their own things. She accepted it all. Honestly she made me forget about how much my life had changed over the years. My mum loved her. My sister claimed her as a best friend. Did that make Justice the one for me?
~~*~~
*Justice's P.O.V*
“Can you believe I won?” I asked still shocked although we were now seated in our new front row floor seats waiting for Christina Grimmy to come out. “I forgot I had even entered that contest.” I admitted with a shrug of my shoulders. I entered a lot of different contests for concert tickets, but always ended up buying them.
“How did they know it was you?” Mary-Ann questioned as if she had thinking about it for a long time. She probably had.
“I used my Facebook profile to enter. They probably recognized the picture.” I responded not giving it much thought. I didn't care how they recognized me. All I cared about was possibly touching Selena's hand.
“Yeah, that's probably how.” Katie nodded her head glancing at her cell phone. “It's two minutes until seven.” She informed us. She had been counting down since we entered the arena. She really wanted to see Wesley, Keaton, and Drew.
It was exactly two minutes later when unfamiliar music began and a dark haired girl in lack shorts with a white blouse ran onto the stage. I assumed she was Christina Grimmy. She raised her hand greeting the crowd before beginning to sing. After her first song she introduced herself and told us all the title of her debut album. The three of us nodded along during her set although we didn't know any of her songs. She attempted to get the crowd involved, but it was a feeble attempt. When her set ended the lights came back up and weird music began to play.
“What the...” I trialed off as everyone around seemed to be having the same reaction.
“Maybe it's a joke.” Katie suggested although it was clear she didn't believe that. The strange music continued for another ten minutes before the lights went down again and an excited murmur rose in the crowd. Katie sat on the edge of her seat tense. As soon as Keaton's voice was heard she jumped up, accompanied by at least a hundred more girls, and began to yell. I joined her finally realizing that I was a fan of this boy band.
“There's something about the girl next door. Something that I can't ignore. She got me like ooh ooh ooh ooh.” The whole arena sang. I did my best to record their set although I found myself dancing and nodding my head a lot. When Emblem 3 completed their set it was safe to say that the nerves had kicked in as I waited with too much anticipation for the main event.
“Are you alright?” Mary-Ann asked with concern as she eyed my tightly clutched fist warily. I nodded fervently afraid to speak.
“I think it just hit her.” Katie mused. “Jay, are you going to faint?”
“No,” I answered in a low voice I hardly recognized as my own.
“Are you going to cry?” She asked in a humored voice as if she already knew the answer. I nodded my head with wide eyes as the lights went down and the intro of 'Bang Bang Bang' began. In a daze I moved to the edge of my seat clutching the sides in a death grip while focusing on the white sheer curtain hanging down over the stage. A female silhouette was perched on top of a staircase. I instantly knew who it was causing my body to vibrate with anticipation. All too quick the curtain dropped and there she was. Selena Gomez stood on stage dressed in an all white costume holding her decked out microphone. Without a second thought I jumped onto my feet digging my nails Katie's wrist as a high pitched scream left my lips. “Ow Jay that hurts.”
“I LOVE YOU SELENA!!!!” I yelled with my eyes squeezed shut to put all of my energy into those four words that I desperately wanted her to hear.
“Seriously Jay, you need to let go.” Katie spoke in a panicked voice while trying to my pry off my grip. I was too far gone to realize. “Jay! Let go of my arm!” She yelled in my arm, but it wasn't her words that caused me to loosen my grip. It was Selena moving to the left side of the stage near us that did the trick. I couldn't waste my time cutting off my friend's circulation when that hand could be held by my future wife. “Oh thank God.” Katie sighed with great relief while Mary Ann rubbed her arm sympathetically. I was too busy singing along to worry about them.
“You've gone too far.” Mary Ann commented during 'Walk Like A Champion' while I executed every dance move perfectly in time, sang the words, and recorded.
Walk like a champion. Talk like a champion.
“Why is he touching her? I don't like that.” I frowned during 'Stars Dance' while watching one of the male backup dancers get a little too friendly with my girl.
“That's the routine Justice. Calm down.” Mary Ann soothed although my frown didn't actually leave my features.
~~*~~
“SE-LEN-A! SE-LEN-A! SE-LEN-A!” The arena chanted as we waited for to come back on stage for an encore. There were still two songs that she needed to perform and we would not rest until we heard them. Finally the music for 'Come & Get It' started as the female backup dancers descended the stairs parting way for the queen.
When you're ready come and get it.
Of course I sang along and danced the best I could. I was hoping that Selena would finally notice me, but the pessimistic part of me knew she wouldn't. The thought would have depressed me more if I hadn't grabbed my friend's hands right after 'Slow Down' and pulled them out of the auditorium so we could be the first in line for when Selena came out to greet her fans. We were nearly outside when a big burly security person stepped in front of us causing my quick steps to come to an immediate halt.
“Uh...” Katie searched for words to say, but that proved unnecessary when the bald man began to speak.
“You need to come with me.” He instructed in a deep voice that was not at all attractive.
I looked around in confusion. “Me?” I pointed to myself. He nodded. “Why?”
“Follow me ma'am.” He didn't answer my question before walking forward towards the back of the lobby. The three of us exchanged a look mutually deciding to not move. We turned back towards the exit heading back outside, but another security person stepped in front of us. “We really don't want to use force so please come with us.” The original man spoke reappearing.
“Look if is about the tickets. I won those front row seat fair and square in a con-”
The new beefy man rolled his eyes took the lead. The first man gave an impatient look that I took as a sign for us to start walking. We turned around nervously and followed the lead.
“What's going on?” Mary Ann whispered as we entered a long hallway that we were definitely not meant to see.
“No clue, but I'm pretty sure this isn't a part of the plan.” Katie responded as we stopped outside of black double doors.
I decided to try speaking up again. “This whole thing is creeping me out and I would like to know why you forced us back here.” I stated folding my arms across my chest. Neither one of them spoke as they held up the doors. I glared at them before taking the lead. We were in an area meant for the performers and their team only. A fair skinned brunette with a friendly smile approached us.
“Hi, I'm Sarah. Can you follow me?” She asked although she turned and began to walk before I had a chance to respond.
“Why not? We've been a lot of following.” I mumbled. Sarah led us into a small room with a TV hanging one corner and leather furniture pushed against the wall. She left without a word. I realized the security bullies were gone as well. “What the hell is going on?” I groaned plopping down onto the couch leaving Katie and Mary Ann standing awkwardly.
“Guys, this is creeping me out.” Mary Ann confessed. “What if they're kidnapping us?” Katie was about to respond to her when the door opened meaning someone remembered the hostages and had finally come to explain everything.
“Hi,” an all too familiar voice greeted in a sing-song manner causing me to look up from my cell phone where I was sending a message to Harry about this weird situation. My eyes widened as they fell on her. “What's your name?” She asked turning to Katie first. My best friend introduced herself calmly followed by our little minor. Finally our greeter turned her dark head to me keeping a smile. “You must be Justice. I've heard so much about you. It's great to finally meet you.” She greeted me and at that moment it all clicked.
“He is so stupid,” I mumbled as tears welled in my eyes. All three of them laughed and I pouted. “You knew!” I accused.
Katie smiled wide. “Harry mentioned it when he visited.” She admitted.
Mary Ann held up her hands in defense. “Katie didn't tell me until this morning and made me swear not to tell.” I groaned shaking my head at them when I suddenly realized who was here.
“Oh my gosh! I am so rude. Hi! I can't believe I'm meeting you. I'm Jay.” I spoke trying so hard to keep calm.
“I'm Selena,” the singer introduced herself with a friendly smile.
“Yeah, I know.” I laughed and immediately wanted to slap myself. “I'm a huge fan. You were so great tonight.” I blurted. There was no hope for this situation.
“Thank you.” Selena seemed to take my compliment well. “I love your outfit. I actually saw a picture of you and Harry from the Teen Choice Awards and just thought 'Uh, she dresses so cute.'” She laughed lightly.
I joined her laughter. “Thank you.” She motioned that it was nothing. “Speaking of pictures. Can I get one?” I asked skeptically.
“Of course.” She agreed and I handed my iPhone over to Katie. Selena and I moved closer together posing as if we were the best of friends and not strangers who had only met. Katie captured the moment before handing the device back to me for my approval. “That's cute.”
I nodded in agreement. “Definitely Instagram worthy.”
“You have an Instagram!?” Selena asked excitedly placing a hand on my arm. I nodded my head answering her question. “Can I follow you?” She asked.
I laughed excitedly. “Yes! I already follow you.” To prove up my point I pulled up the list of people I followed and stopped when I found her name. She got my username and found my profile effectively following me before handing her phone off to Sarah who snapped another picture. We chatted for a bit allowing me to sneak in a message to Harry. Eventually it was time for her to go and we said our goodbyes promising to keep in touch. “I met Selena Gomez.” I gushed while Katie, Mary Anne, and I walked back to her car escorted by the beefy security guy from before. Of course Harry ordered that we make it back to our car safely. He was always doing more than needed.
“I know.” Mary Anne gushed. “I met all three members of Emblem 3.” She reminisced. Halfway into my conversation with Selena it became clear that the girls weren't nearly as enthusiastic so I asked if the E3 guys were around. The noticeable change in their behavior was comical. Katie shook out her hair. Mary Anne applied lip gloss. It was great.
“Selena was so nice. I don't know why she would want to be with a douche bag like that damn Canadian boy.” Katie commented with an annoyed edge.
“You guys know who's nice? Harry, I cannot believe he did that. He's unbelievable.” My head was swimming thinking of all the times Harry had gone the extra mile just for me. I sighed while pulling out my cell phone and hoping it wasn't too late or early to hear his voice.
~~*~~
*Harry's P.O.V*
The sound of my mobile woke me. My groan was suppressed once I saw the name and picture on my screen.
“Hello?” I answered in a groggy voice while smiling like a mad man.
“Why did you do that?” Justice demanded immediately.
A wicked grin covered my face as I sat up in the unfamiliar bed. “I have no clue what you're going on about.”
“Cut the act Haz. They told me the truth. Which you would know if you saw my messages and I'm guessing you didn't... Did I wake you?” Her voice became worried and I could picture the frown and wrinkle forming between her eyebrows as her bottom lip poked out slightly in a frown.
“It's fine.” I assured her before she could protest. It was too late.
“No it's late. You need your rest. Go back to sleep.”
“Lo-”
“Nuh uh, my ramblings can wait for another day. I'm serious Harry. Go back to sleep.”
“Even if you hang up now. I won't be able to sleep.” I told her. It wasn't true, but I wanted to hear her voice if only for a moment longer.
“Well I won't be the reason you collapse on stage in front of a thousand screaming fans due to exhaustion.” She exaggerated.
A groan escaped my lips as it became clear that I would not win this one. “Fine.”
“I-” we both spoke and stopped immediately. I love you. I finished the sentence mentally. Was that what we were going to say? “I'll talk to you later.” Justice spoke after a brief and awkward pause. “Good night.”
“Night,” I waited for to end the call before laying back and looking up at the ceiling. It had only been three weeks and already I couldn't wait to see her again.
