A New Family

Chapter 51

Lily's POV:

"Stop looking at your feet, don't worry." Suggested Luke.

"I don't want to step on your feet and mess up." I stared down at my feet, concentrating hard. Abruptly, Luke stopped and pulled my chin up so my eyes could be even with his.

"Your feet will guide you, trust me, no one is bad at ballroom dancing." Trusting his words, I complied to his request and lost myself into his eyes. The song lasted for three, heavenly minutes. After it was finished another upbeat song came on and Luke pulled away.

"I have to go, I'm presenting a fifteen minute performance, with other dancers."

"Can I watch you from the sidelines?" Luke nodded and pulled me over the right side of the gym where other students were stretching.

"What is she doing here?" Sneered Sophie. Despite her rude comment I couldn't help fall in love with her outfit, it was so simple but very dancer-like. She was wearing her layered brown hair down, reaching the tips of her short skirt that looked like it was fun to twirl in. Underneath I could tell she was wearing a leotard with basically her entire back showing, also she didn't have on any spandex.

"She's just going to watch from the sidelines." Said Luke. I nodded in agreement, Sophie just snorted and went down into the splits, smirking at my amazement.

"I'm going to grab some Lemonade and a snack." I told Luke, and started making my way to the back where the food was.

"Well, look who decided to show up." Without glancing up from my plate and cup I already knew who it was. Ignoring Reyna's pathetic comments, I made my way to the front where Luke was setting up.

I shifted to the corner, pulling a chair from stack in a pile. When the performance began I was blown away once again by Luke's dancing skills. He was so beautiful, he made everything seem so easy and effortless. All the other dancers were good but you could tell he was the best, he was in each song.

In the end I was cheering and screaming Luke's name...along with all the other girls. Jealousy filled my stomach as I watched as all the girls surrounded him, commenting how spectacular he was. Sighing, I threw away my cup and plate. I was about to throw the water bottle away but Luke came jogging up to me. Not wanting to have nothing to say I thrusted the water bottle to him, he took it.

"Thanks." He gulped down the water and panted for air. A thin layer of sweat on his forehead shined from the disco ball above.

"Did I do something wrong in the dance?" Luke asked carefully.

"No, you didn't make one mistake." I said blankly.

"Then why are you acting this way?"

"Why? Do want me to act more like Sophie?" I asked angrily, "Oh Luke! We're were so hot out there, do another dance move for me!" I rolled my eyes and started making my way to the door.

"If you think I like Sophie, you're soooo wrong." I turned towards with and crossed my arms.

"So than you're going to go out with one of the girls from your new fan club?"

"God Lily! Do you really think I like any of them? How many times do I have to say this? I like you! I thought I got that through your head last Wednesday! I practically poured my soul out to you! Now you think I'm crushing on some girls because I'm getting attention? I can't believe you!"

"It's hard to not think so when you could have any girl you wanted! All the girls in the ninth grade would die to be in my position! They would faint if you even started tap dancing!"

"Don't you trust me?" Luke looked hurt, and I realized that this was the first time we were actually fighting. The other times, Luke was calm, but how was this different.

"You really have true feelings for me?"

"Yes, how many times do I have to say so?"

"Until I believe you."

"Please, let's not fight, I don't like fighting with you Lily." Luke's bottom lip trembled, as if he was going to start bawling. Regretting my outburst, I walked forward a gave him a huge hug.

"Look, I'm sorry, the things you said to me last Wednesday, were beyond crazy. Be patient with me. " I murmured into his ear. I snuggled hesitantly into his arms, feeling oddly content. A slow song was turned and we started to sway a bit. I transferred our hug into a slow dance, our arms resting on each other's shoulders. It was nice and peaceful for a while, our eyes stuck in gaze.

The rest of the dance was sweet, the DJ didn't play any more slow songs but Luke danced around me. Never letting me take his eyes off him. He understood that I really didn't want to dance and only made me watch and twirl occasionally. But I was never bored watching him move, he made me laugh with his dancing. We eventually got some punch and each took a cookie at one point and sat for a while.

"To all those couples out there, this is the last song, it's a slow song, so you all better be dancing!"

I glanced over to Luke who already knew what I was thinking. He held out his hand and we were about to stand up until someone stopped us. Jacob. He was dressed in a tux with a sleek black bow tie to match.

"I believe you owe me a favor Lily, and I plan to receive that favor right now."
