A New Family

Lily's POV:

I glared at the teacher intently, trying to signal her that this was a bad seating arrangements. She didn't get the message. For some unknown reason, I desperately wanted to look over at Luke (why?!?) but I ignored his beautiful face and looked at the teacher's ugly one.

"So class, right now were going to have a pop quiz!" Everyone groaned, I put my head into my hands.

"Settle down, it's just to see if your right for this class. If you get 90% or more, your in, if not, you'll be placed into a lower class. I only expect about half of you to pass and I only expect one of you to get a perfect score. You'll have the full hour to complete this. If you get done early... Well Luke I suppose you can play games on your phone."

What? Why would Luke be the only one to finish early? When my test was handed to me I looked at the first question:

Y= 5x - 8
7y - 9x= 45
What are the intercepting coordinates?

This is easy, I thought. I completed the first and second problem in two minutes but at to the third, it got harder. I turned the page, and harder, I thought. I sighed and got to work, I would definitely need the entire hour to finish this packet.

I had about thirteen minutes left and I was on the last two problems. I had double checked my work for all the others and I was positive they were correct. But these last few problems were pure geometry, which I hadn't learned yet. I did the math and if I didn't get at least one right, of these two hard problems I wouldn't be in this class (the test had 19 problems). Luke finished after ten minutes and sure enough the teacher let him play games on his phone.

It was so distracting too because I love Minion Rush. Nevertheless I managed to ignore him for most of the time being. But I was panicking now, I only have ten minutes left and I have to finish this test. I felt someone tap my shoulder, I looked warily away from my messy paper. Luke.

"What?" I snapped, I didn't have time for him, I needed to concentrate.

"I'll help you." He said, sincerely. I was going to ask how but then he started typing some numbers into his phone. Promptly, the class phone started ringing. The teacher grabbed it.

"Hello? Mrs. Denton speaking."

"Hi, this is the main office, we need your assistance." Luke whispered into his phone.

"Assistance? I have a class that needs watching."

"Seeing that the bell is going to ring in ten minutes I think no harm will be done if you leave now."

"Okay, I'll come." Mrs. Denton reluctantly agreed.

"Class I have to go down to the office, if I'm not back in time to collect your tests, just set them on my desk. And no cheating!"

As soon as Mrs. Denton left, Luke scooted his desk next to mine.

"You really shouldn't do this" I said, nervously.

"You wanna be in dumb math?"

"No." I sighed and listened to his explanations.

At the end of the hour I had confidently turned in my test, 100% sure that I had gotten every question right. Mainly because Luke checked them all, but it still counts!

I hated depending on someone, but I had to thank Luke for helping me. I made my way to my next class and looked around for some where to sit.

"Lily! Over here!" I smiled at Luke and decided, for now, I won'tavoid him. After all, this is my last day here. I'm leaving tonight.
