Perfect To Me

The Room Just Lights Up

I woke up to the pilot of the plane telling us we had landed. I opened my eyes and threw my hands in the air, letting a small moan out as I stretched. I pulled my phone out and went to my text messages where I selected the big group message I had going with Eleanor, Perrie, Danielle, Zayn, Liam, Louis, Niall and Harry, I quickly told them I’d just landed and that I would be seeing them soon. I could tell Harry and I’s circle of friends were really happy we were on friendly, speaking terms with one another. I wanted to be mad at Harry, like really bad, but there’s just this thing about him where I can’t stay mad at him. I’m still debating whether or not it’s good or bad but as soon as I find out, you’ll be the first to know. It didn’t surprise me when I heard Taylor would be at the show, because everyone invited their girlfriends. I was just kind of hoping Harry wouldn’t invite her, especially because he told me she hasn’t met his family yet. She’d be meeting them today. After walking off the plane and going to baggage claim to collect my suitcase, I hailed a cab and went straight to Madison Square Garden where I was informed the boys were rehearsing for the show that was in a couple of days.

After the longest car ride ever, due to the heavy traffic in the city, the cab finally pulled around back where Paul was waiting, patiently, for me.

“Paul!” I exclaimed when I got out of the cab with my bag. I threw my arms over the big man and let him squeeze the living day lights out of me.

“How ya been, Abby?” He asked while he ruffled my naturally curly hair.

“I’ve been better. But its winter, my favorite time of year, so I can’t be sad about that,” I smiled up at him as we walked into the arena.

“You got here at a good time, the boys are about to rehearse, and I know how much you love to watch them.”

We walked down a bunch of hallways until Paul pointed to a dressing room on the right that had the door open. I walked into the door frame and saw everyone’s backs were facing me as they were all sprawled around the room.

“Man, when’s Abby gettin’ here?! I miss that lass!” Eleanor exclaimed as she bounced around in her seat next to Louis.

“Impatience is not a good look for you, El,” I joked and all eight of my best friends heads whipped around at the sound of my voice.

“Abby!!” They all screamed and tackled me in a hug.

“It’s about bloody time you got here! I was getting worried!” Niall said and I couldn’t help but laugh at him.

“So worried you sloppily ate a bag of chips?” I said as I wiped some crumbs off his shirt.

“You know how I am,” he sheepishly said and I just laughed at him as I pulled him in for a hug. That’s when I saw her, Taylor Swift, sitting on the couch behind us with her nose stuck in her phone. I rolled my eyes because I wasn’t looking forward to having to be nice to her these next couple of days. I went around my group of friends hugging them all, and I saved Harry for last. Once Harry and I pulled apart I quickly took his beanie off his head.

“I like this beanie,” I told him while I stuck it on my head. He rolled his eyes and snatched it off.

“You can’t steal this one, it’s my favorite,” he said while placing it back on his head. I just rolled my eyes at him.

“Your family in yet?” I asked him, excitedly.

“Nope, they get in later on today.”

“Damn. I can’t wait to see them all,” I told him while I rocked back and forth on my feet. That is until I heard a cough come from behind Harry, and when he stepped aside, Taylor was standing behind him with a sickly, sweet smile on her face.

“Oh! I guess I better give you two a proper introduction, yeah?” Harry said as he looked between the both of us. “Taylor this is Abby, Abby this is Taylor.”

“Nice to finally, officially, meet you,” Taylor said, I could tell she was faking being civil to me but I brushed it off.

“You too,” I said before I was ripped away by Eleanor and Perrie. They both pulled me out into the hallway where Danielle was waiting. She and Liam were working on getting back together and that made me happy because they’re so cute together.

“We don’t like her,” Perrie spoke for all the girls.

“Why not?” I asked them as I bunched my eyebrows up.

“’Cause it’s not you!” Danielle exclaimed as she threw her arms around me and pretended to cry.

“I’m afraid I have no control over that, girls. But hey I’m here!” I told him as I threw my hands out.

“Well, she’s a right bitch to all of us,” Eleanor pouted and I couldn’t help but laugh at her.

“Have you even tried being nice to her?” I asked them and they all nodded their heads.

“We invited her out for a girl’s night with us last night, you know some late night shopping and pigging out and she turned us down!” Perrie exclaimed.

“Yeah, and she didn’t even give us a proper reason!” Danielle said with sad eyes.

“She just said she wanted to stay in with Harry,” Eleanor whined and stomped her feet. This was very amusing.

“Harry even went out that night with the lads!” Danielle added.

“You’d never reject us for Harry,” Perrie quietly said and my heart actually broke for these girls. They really didn’t like her, and they even tried giving her a chance.

“Well, I’m here now so we can have all the girls’ nights we want!” I told them as I pulled them in for a group hug.

“We’ve missed you so much,” Eleanor said while we still embraced one another.

“Hate to interrupt the lesbian love fest, but we’re going to rehearse now,” Harry joked as he and the rest of the boys walked past us.

“Ohh! I gotta get a seat!” I said while running down the hall, but I quickly stopped and turned around with a confused expression on my face. “You girls coming or what?” I said to Eleanor, Danielle and Perrie. As soon as the words left my mouth they came running after me.

The boys rehearsed for a little over three and a half hours and the girls and I watched every second of it. Rehearsals were my favorite thing to watch because you saw the show come to life, sure the final product was good but the rehearsals is what made it so good. The girls and I took our time walking back to the dressing room, we used the time to catch up with one another lives since the last time we saw one another, which was the day before my birthday. They surprised me by coming over after the dinner I had with the boys and Charlotte. Danielle had some really great auditions coming up, Eleanor was extremely relieved this semester of uni was over and Perrie was telling me about the success and feedback Little Mix was receiving. I told them about my plans for the gallery and how the boys agreed to do a single for it and make a music video. Which we were going to start filming the music video while we were in New York, yes I’m the director of it. We thought why not show case all my talents at the gallery. Just as we rounded the corner to the hallway of all the dressing rooms I was suddenly on the ground and Gemma was suffocating me with a hug.

“Can’t breathe, Gem,” I said into her shoulder and she just let out a hearty laugh and let me go. Once she let me go I threw my arms around her and did the same exact thing to her.

“Can’t breathe, Abs,” she mocked me and we both laughed. After I let her go we stood up and hugged again. “How you been?”

“I’ve been better,” I told her with a small smile on my face. “What about you?”

“I’ve been really good,” she told me while looping her arm through mine and guiding me to the dressing room. As soon as I stepped foot into the dressing room Anne, Harry’s mum, threw her arms around me and I did the same to her.

“Oh, my baby!” Anne said into my hair and I couldn’t help but laugh at her.

“Hi Anne,” I said and she held me at arm’s length with a smile on her face.

“You look great,” she said to me, and I knew what she meant when she said I looked great, she meant I looked happy.

“How long have you been here?” I asked her as we walked over and sat on a vacant couch.

“Oh about an hour,” she said and I nodded my head.

“Why didn’t you come find me?” I asked her and she just smiled at me knowingly.

“I know how much you love watching the boys rehearse,” she said as she kissed my hand. We sat in a comfortable silence for a while until a question popped in my head.

“You meet the girlfriend yet?” I asked her and she shook her head no.

“’fraid not! Harry said she went back to the hotel because she was feeling a bit tired,” Anne said and I nodded my head. “Abby, be honest with me yeah?” She asked and I nodded my head. “Am I gonna like her?” I sucked in a breath at her question while I tried to come up with an answer.

“I have no idea. I haven’t really gotten a chance to know her because as soon as I got here the boys started rehearsing. But according to the girls, they don’t like her because she’s a bit bitchy.”

“I figured that much,” Anne exasperated with a tired expression on her face. “Guess I’ll just wait until dinner tonight.” I gave her a reassuring smile and rested my head on her shoulder. “You’ll always be my favorite though, love,” Anne whispered in my ear. I just looked up at her and kissed her cheek.

--Harry’s POV—

Dinner with my family and Taylor was terrible, I seriously wanted to off myself when my dad, Des, was actually agreeing with my mum. The questions for Taylor never stopped but I do commend her on taking it like a champ. Gemma gave her the cold shoulder the entire evening and kept her nose glued to her phone. She was texting Abby and Tom the entire time, because I asked her and she openly said Abby’s name and when I looked at Taylor a flash of jealousy went through her eyes. I was just happy when it ended and I bid my parents and Gemma goodnight at the hotel.

“I’m never going to amount to her am I, Harry?” Taylor asked as she brushed her teeth. We were currently getting ready for bed and discussing our eventful dinner.

“To who, love?” I tiredly asked her.

“Don’t love me,” she mocked. “You know I’m talking about Abby.”

“Abby is just a people’s person.”

“And you’re saying I’m not? I’m an entertainer, Harry, of course I’m a people person,” Taylor snapped at me. I simply just rubbed my hand over my face and into my hair.

“That’s not what I meant.”

“Then what did you mean?” She asked as she stood in front of me with her toothbrush in her hand.

“Abby knows how to handle herself in those kind of situations. Gemma was an upright bitch to Abby when they first met, and it’s just the test Gemma does. Abby knew what to do to pass it, that’s all I’m saying.”

“Whatever,” Taylor said as she stomped back into the bathroom to finish getting ready. I just rolled my eyes and went to lie down on the bed. But before I could get comfy I heard five quiet knocks on the door and I knew just who it was. It was Abby, because she always knocked once for every letter in my name, unless she was mad. A smile instantly slid onto my face when I walked over to the door and opened it. Abby stood there in her pajamas with a blanket wrapped around her, she looked good.

“Hey, Abs,” I greeted her as I leaned against the door frame.

“Hey Harry,” she smiled at me.

“I see you still knock the same,” I mentioned and it took her a second to think about what I was talking about and then it clicked.

“I didn’t even do that on purpose!” She laughed and it caused me to laugh too.

“So what can I help you with?” I asked her.

“Oh yeah! Gemma just came by my room because we’re all hanging out having a movie night. So I figured if Gemma is back then you and Taylor were back,” Abby said as Taylor emerged from the bathroom. “Oh hey, Taylor,” Abby, nicely, greeted her and Taylor smiled at her.

“What are you doing here?” Taylor asked her as she stood behind me.

“Me and the rest of the guys and girls are having a movie marathon in my room and I was just seeing if you two wanted to join us,” Abby offered and that was really sweet of her.

“That’s really nice of you Abby, we—“ I tried to accept her invitation but Taylor cut me off.

“—we were just going to bed. Maybe tomorrow night?” Taylor declined and I just closed my eyes in frustration. When I opened them back up Abby was looking at me with pity and disappointment in her eyes.

“Oh, okay. Well if you change your mind I’m in room 620, I’ll leave it cracked just in case,” Abby said and then turned to walk away when I noticed some black ink on her collarbone.

“Hold it, Abby Emilia,” I sternly said to her and she turned around with a confused expression on her face.

“Yes, Harold?” She said with a smile on her face. I pointed to her collarbone and she just looked down before a light bulb went off. “Oh! Yeah I got a new tattoo! It was Zayn’s birthday gift to me.” I moved my finger to push her pullover to the side so I could read it.

“The wounded deer leaps the highest?” I read aloud with a confused expression. “What’s that mean?” I asked her.

“Even if you’re hurting you can still do great things,” she simply said.

“I like it,” I said with a genuine smile and she simply smiled back at me. “There a reason you’re walking around with your blanket?” I asked her once I noticed the fluffy maroon material.

“Niall is a little fucker who kept trying to steal it. I can’t leave it alone or it’ll be gone,” she said it like her life depended on it. I just laughed at her.

“You and your blankets,” I shook my head at her and she just laughed.

“Room 620 if you change your mind,” she said while pointing her finger at me and walking away. I closed the door and walked over the bed where Taylor sat playing on her phone.

“Why didn’t you want to go watch movies?” I asked her as I sat down to take my watch off.

“Because I don’t like your friends,” Taylor stated like it was the obvious.

“And why don’t you like them?” I asked her while I plugged my phone into its charger.

“They’re too free-spirited for my liking,” Taylor simply said and that made me angry.

“What’s so wrong with that?” I said, turning around to look at her and she just shrugged her shoulders while scrolling on her phone. “Will you put your phone down and answer the damn question?” I said to her and that got her attention.

“You can talk to me in a better tone and I will,” Taylor said with a scowl on her face.

“What’s wrong with being free-spirited?” I asked in a ‘nicer’ tone.

“Nothing. I just think they’re all adults and should act like adults and not children.” I rolled my eyes at her answer and quickly put my watch back on and shoved my phone into the pocket of my sweatpants. I threw one of my jumpers on and grabbed a room key on my way to the door.

“Where are you going?” Taylor asked just as I placed my hand on the door to walk out.

“To watch movies with my childish friends,” I spat before walking out the door and down the hall. I saw Abby did in fact leave the door open for me and when I walked in the group was debating on which movie they wanted to watch.

“Let’s watch, Bambi!” Niall yelled and Liam hit him with a pillow.

“That movie makes me cry!” Liam reasoned.

“We can watch Wall-E?” Danielle offered and everyone shook their head.

“Hey everyone,” I said as I got further into the room and they all turned to look at me.

“Where’s Taylor?” Louis asked.

“She wanted to sleep,” I told them as I looked around for a spot. As soon as my eyes landed on Abby, who was laying on one of the beds next to Gemma, she scooted over and patted the empty space next to her. I smiled and crawled in between her and Gemma. “Between two of my favorite ladies,” I said as I threw my one of my arms over each of their shoulders and they both rolled their eyes.

“Harry, what movie do you want to watch?” Abby asked me.

“Hmm, how about…Tarzan?” I offered and waited for everyone’s responses.

“Oh yeah! That’s a good one,” Abby said and I shot her a smile, which she returned. “Does that one make you cry too, Liam?” She joked and Liam threw a pillow at her.

“No, but it makes me cry!” Niall exclaimed from his spot on the floor. We all laughed at him, while some threw pillows at him.

“Then that’s that! We’re watching Tarzan,” Abby said as she threw her hands in the air.

“I swear, Grimes. You just like to watch me cry,” Niall whined and Abby made a noise of agreement as she got up to put the disc into the player. When she laid back down she offered me some of her blanket and I graciously took it.

Throughout the entire movie I would steal glances at Abby who was so engrossed in the movie that she never noticed. I noticed how she would tear up when Tarzan’s parents died or when a lot of the gorilla’s died. When she would start to tear up I would pretend to be uncomfortable so I could pull her closer to me, to comfort her. I noticed how funny she found it when the baby elephant said the words ‘emotionally constipated,’ she wanted to laugh so bad. And I noticed how her face softened during each scene that had Tarzan and Jane acting all lovey dovey in it.

“Tarzan kinda looks like you,” Abby whispered to me, and her eyes never left the screen.

“I don’t know if I should take that as a compliment or if I should be offended?” I whispered back to her and I saw the goose bumps rise on her skin as I did so. I still had that effect on her and it made my stomach do flips.

“Compliment. He’s my favorite Disney character,” she said with her eyes still glued to the television. That’s when I noticed she had her glasses on, and the frame fit her face perfectly. That’s also when I took in the new scent of her hair, it smelled like black raspberry and tea, a good mix. I also noticed she had more freckles peppered over her cheeks, all these things I was noticing brought a smile to my face.

“Why is a dirty, jungle man your favorite Disney character?” I whispered into her ear.

“Because, he doesn’t know English, right? It shows that love has no border. It can be expressed in any manner,” she stated and I just nodded my head.

“That’s beautiful,” I said to her and she just looked up and shot me a smile.

After Tarzan finished we decided to watch Mean Girls, requested by Abby, because it’s ‘the most quotable movie ever.’ All throughout the movie Abby recited every single line and I couldn’t help but smile at it. Abby loves movies, she absolutely hates watching TV shows because she doesn’t like sitting through commercials and she doesn’t like waiting for new episodes.

“They made a second Mean Girls, and it was shit,” Abby said and I couldn’t help but laugh at her. “I didn’t even watch thirty minutes of it.” I shook my head at her as she took a swig of water from the water bottle that was resting in her lap. Before she could put the cap back on it I took it from her hands and took a swig myself before handing it to her. After Mean Girls we watched Toy Story 3 and then we all agreed to watch the first Home Alone. Halfway through Mean Girls, Gemma fell asleep, and then Louis and Eleanor left towards the end of Toy Story to go sleep in their room, and Liam and Danielle shortly followed them. Halfway through Home Alone I looked down at Abby and saw she was fast asleep and when I looked over to where Perrie, Zayn and Niall, were on the other bed, they were fast asleep as well. I silently chuckled before taking Abby’s glasses off her face and setting them on the nightstand and I pulled my jumper off before turning the TV off. I slid further down the bed so I could rest my head on the pillow. I adjusted the blanket so Gemma, Abby and I were equally covered by it. I turned my head to face the back of Abby’s and her scent immediately intoxicated me and I fell into a deep slumber.
