Chapter 16
I took Niall's hand and he intertwined our fingers as I led him upstairs to Ella's room. He was smiling the biggest grin and he looks so excited. It made my heart smile. We reached Ella's room and my heart was pounding. I saw Liam looking into her crib and talking to her. She was smiling and just looked happy. I led Niall to the crib as Liam stepped aside. I took Ni's hand and gently led it to Ella's small, soft face. When it made contact, he started to cry.
He managed to choke out, "Liam, is she beautiful?"
Liam had fresh tears in his eyes at how happy Niall seemed.
He put his hand on Niall's shoulder in a side hug, "She's more than beautiful Ni. One day you will get to see the wonderful creation you helped bring into the world."
Niall turned to me and said "Can I hold her?"
I was crying now as I lifted Ella up as Liam had Niall hold out his arms. I gently place Ella in Niall's arms and he immediately cradled her into his chest. Her small head laid on his shoulder. She looked the most content and happy she ever has. Her eyes fluttered closed as her daddy held her close and I marveled at how easily Niall connected with her. Her tiny fingers held their very tightest to Niall's large, rough finger.
He was crying all over again, "I finally feel like I've done something right. Princess, where are you?"
I touched Niall's other hand and replied, "I'm right here, Niall."
He responded, "Why are you so far away, love?"
I didn't have an answer for that so I only walked closer and allowed Niall to pull me into his embrace. I wrapped my arms around his torso as he put his arm around me so I could lay my head on his shoulder like Ella was on the other shoulder. Liam decided it was time for him to leave and let us work on mending our small family. But he asked to talk to me first for a second. I slithered out of Niall's hold and followed Liam into the hallway. Niall asked if I would be right back and I told him I would be back before he had time to worry too much. Liam asked me what was going on with Niall. I told him about his abandonment issue. Liam looked at me with sad, tired eyes and nodded.
He said "Just promise me one thing."
I said "Anything."
"Promise that if you ever have a desire to leave Niall or something is wrong, you come to me first before making any rash decisions."
I promised him I would and he hugged me before starting to leave.
I said "Li, promise me you'll get some sleep. You don't have to worry about Niall."
He told me he would try his best. I told him that's all I am asking for.
