Chapter Eleven
Chapter 11
*1 Year Later*
Hadley's P.O.V.
I was shaken awake by the sad, helpless cries coming from beside me. I got out of the bed quickly to tend to my baby. It always breaks my heart when she cries. I gently picked her up and cradled her in my arms before feeding her like I knew she wanted. She drank what was left of my energy and fell back asleep. That gave me an opportunity to get ready for work while she slept. I didn't dare to look in the mirror because I always look the same; dark circles under my eyes from many sleepless nights, cuts covering my wrists from the many lonely nights I've endured, and just a general hollow look in my eyes. I question my decision to leave every day. But what's the point in trying to change things? I'm doing okay where I am now. Just as I finished getting ready I heard a cry come from Ella's crib. I was incredibly thankful that my work let me bring her because I am breastfeeding her. While I am busy at work, I hired a nanny to watch over Ella and bring her to me when she's hungry. I work at the hospital in town as a physiatric nurse since I have all that experience and licensing because of Niall. When I got to work, I was given my list of patients I would be working with for the day. All except for one were my regulars that I work with. The last person on my list had no name but only a room number. That person must really demand their privacy. My heart was pounding as I headed to my mysterious patient. Celeste brought a fussy Ella to me to be fed. It feels like I just fed her a minute ago. I took her in my arms and started bouncing her lightly as I headed to my next patient's room to tell them I would be with them momentarily. Hopefully they would understand that I needed to feed my child right now. I opened the door and put on my professional face only to be met with those puppy dog brown eyes that I could never forget.
"Oh my gosh."
I had the urge to run away and get far far away from here but Liam's hand gripped my arm as he asked if we could talk.
I spoke quietly so Niall couldn't tell it was me, "I don't think that's a good idea. I will get one of my co-workers to handle Niall's appointment."
I should've known Liam wouldn't let me go that easy. We were out in the hallway now and he was making sure I didn't run.
His voice shook as he spoke to me, "Hadley, we at least deserve an explanation as to why you left Niall."
I responded "You're right, you do but the reason I left is currently very hungry. Let me feed her and we can talk. I can't face Niall right now though."
Liam simply nodded. I walked away as quickly as I could to feed Ella in the back room before facing the consequences of my decision. I was really hoping the consequences would come in the form of Niall marrying someone else and I would have to sit back and watch him love someone else but I wasn't going to be that lucky I guess.
